  1. Hope so. If nothing else, simple probability tells me that Yasel Puig owes us one more entertaining squirrel-on-busy-highway baserunning gaffe.
  2. It did. We held them under a dozen runs, didn't we?
  3. I can think of, like, 11,000,000 reasons why the persons responsible for signing MP to a two year deal would want to cross their fingers, send him out there again, and hope for the best. Not saying he should get another shot or that the money should be a factor, but it's hard to see the Twins ignoring that aspect altogether. And if they need to rationalize it they can blame today's performance on crappy cold weather and defensive miscues. LA's defensive miscues, if necessary. Too long between innings for MP.
  4. Twins starters' ERA over 6 even before Pelfrey's gem today, a full run higher than the next highest in the AL. Hughes has 26 K's, rest of rotation 48. K's per 9 will fall below 5.00 after this game's stats are included, and the next lowest in MLB is 6.43, with an AL average of 7.58. So it might be a little while longer until the Twins rotation juggernaut's competitive advantage created by exploitation of the pitch-to-contact market inefficiency forces the commissioner's hand and results in some rule changes...
  5. Pretty sure I've heard "Zobirth" as alternative to "Zobrith". Gotta love that Dick doesn't bother to try to correct him, probably not out of professional courtesy, but rather the realization looooong ago that it's an utterly lost cause...
  6. Can't double-like a post, so next best thing...
  7. Gooooaaaaaaaallll! Anyway, mix in Escobar, adjust the rota... Gooooaaaaalll!!
  8. http://vid.marketmenot.com/geico-pig-at-the-dmv-commercial/geico-pig-at-the-dmv.jpgNeeexxXT!!
  9. And sometimes, a miniature Buddha, covered in hair...http://f3.thejournal.ie/media/2013/12/baxter-2.png 'Baxter!?! Is that you? Bark twice if you're at a Brewers home game!'
  10. Nice work on the comparison between the two swings; it's certainly possible that it's contributing to an improvement in his offense. That being said, no, it's not likely that Suzuki can sustain a .300 average over 400+ AB's, let alone a walk rate more than double his career average. Maybe a more valuable question to have the answer to is whether he can sustain a more realistic level of performance somewhere around halfway between his career and current average and OBP. A .275 average and .350 OBP with a slugging average in the high .3's with good defense would make him a valuable backup to an offense-first catcher like Pinto, but it shouldn't even begin to distract the Twins from the their task of grooming Pinto to be the primary catcher.
  11. And at my age, a good fire is better than a cat smoking a cigar... http://www.indigenouspeople.net/nativeart/Floyd.jpg
  12. Score when I started listening to Rock Cats, 5-1 lead in the 8th. Final score, 7-5 Squirrels. It's official, my X-men villain mutant superpower is the ability to make hometown teams blow big leads by tuning in late...
  13. Very first thing heard when pulling up the Rock Cats broadcast page to take the place of Twins radio for background soundtrack while working on project... "Bases full of Squirrels".
  14. Morris proclaims that the Tigers' double-digit run total had more to do with a Cabrera dribbler up-the-middle out than the 15-hit, 5-XBH offensive onslaught. Good to know.
  15. If Presley wasn't brought to the Twins to compete with Hicks for the starting job, he certainly was brought in with the appearance of competing with him. Just turned 28, acquired via the trade of a popular veteran, and less than two years removed from a half season in which he played at a WAR rate that projected to 2.5 or so over a full season. Fuld is the kind of guy you bring in when you want everyone to understand that he's the backup and not the long-term answer: a 32 year old career journeyman reserve acquired for nothing. That doesn't make him a bad signing, it just means he has no business displacing Hicks because he struggles for a month or two. If Hicks is still floundering at the plate in June, he may need to go back to AAA, but because the Twins feel it's the best place for him to work things out, not because Fuld is a better player.
  16. When you've been this bad for this long, it takes more than three good weeks to change the minds of writers.
  17. My addition was a bit off, but the final total of 206 pitches is still awfully high. In games that they win, the Twins are routinely seeing 190+ pitches. That's a lot.
  18. Nolasco did his best Pelfrey imitation, based on what I heard and what little I saw of him.
  19. A boatload of bad pitching, Hicksie homer vs. rightie, interesting Twins infield play, and a web gem Desmond Jennings catch.
  20. Surprised Maddon went with the lefty against Plouffe until I checked his split this year. He's been ordinary against lefties, but mauling right-handers: .327/.443/.510 in 43 AB's. Tiny sample size, but encouraging anyway.
  21. 207 pitches thrown by Rays pitchers, and still two of the toughest outs in the lineup left to get...
  22. Not sure which I dislike more, Bert for saying "Zobrith", or Dick for letting him.
  23. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-16qh2VLYhuw/T9uK0w07umI/AAAAAAAAA-A/UeHt811dPuY/s320/roller-coaster-emotions-scared-happy.png
  24. At this point the only thing saving his job is the rest of the lineup over-achieving. A few days of the whole offense scuffling, and we'll see Escobar or (shudder) Nunez.
