  1. Their fluffer called in sick today.
  2. It is beyond the ability of the human mind to comprehend that only eight years separate 'Massachusetts' and 'Jive Talkin' ' I call cowbell!
  3. Vhen Tvins losing... ALVAYSSS!!!
  4. If Molitor doesn't warm up May unless he's almost certain to pitch, doesn't bring him in except to start an inning, and if Molitor is like most managers and won't pull a starter in a situation like Pelfrey to start the 8th (looked ok in the 7th, 92 pitches), then that leaves an awfully narrow subset of game circumstances for May to pitch meaningful innings.
  5. ... and then I said "Grave danger?", and then you said "Is there any other kind?" Get what jimmer is saying, just my pop culture Tourette's acting up again.
  6. The offense shares the blame for the loss. But there are two pretty big differences. One is that Pelfrey and the the bullpen were being asked to contain Marc Krauss, Anthony Gose, and Jose Iglesias in the 8th. The offense was being asked to score against David F. Price for all but the last 3 outs. The other difference was that the offense didn't have one of its best hitters on the bench for no discernible reason.
  7. Am all in on trading for Joaquin Benoit since running across this .gif...
  8. Or released him. Neither option seems a great deal less likely than the odds of a demotion to the bullpen for the starter who led the rotation in most metrics that do not predate the Wright brothers' first flight.
  9. It's probably too harsh, especially given his 2 point something ERA that leads non-Perkins Twins relievers (yikes). But it seems like every time I see him pitch, it's almost as if he's carefully studying the batter's warmup swings so that he knows where to put the ball for him. Every pitch is a Charlie Brown comebacker in the making. Boyer, Thompson, and the dear, departed Tim Stauffer have been to the bullpen this year what PJ Walters, Cole De Vries, and Andrew Albers were to the 2013 rotation, which is a collection of placeholders to watch until the real guys get here.
  10. And even without the open base, May would have been a better option than T-Ball Boyer, whose walk rate sits at 2.58 per 9. May has reduced his to below 2. And of course there's May's K rate, which is more than double that of T-Ball's appalling 3.99 per 9.
  11. That pretty much sums it up for me. Until last night, not using May had seemed.. well, suboptimal at the very least, for both the team and for May. But May's non-use last night marked the transition from 'suboptimal' to all-out dysfunction. It's as if Molitor knows May should be starting, is instead trying to do the next best thing by reserving him as a de facto spot starter when the starter gets blown out early, and has ended up accomplishing nothing. It's reached the point now where it's just a horse race to see whether the misuse of May will cost the team's record or May's development more.
  12. Suzuki is another one of the Twins' many buy high/sell low mistakes since they fell out of relevance in 2011. His extension was based largely on a .310 BABIP that doesn't appear all that high, but is in fact about 40 points over his career average. And with a Suzuki 2015 BABIP 30 points lower than his career average as their chosen instrument, the baseball gods are punishing the Twins for giving Goins wedgies instead of their full attention last year when Suzuki's extension was discussed. It's not like there were a ton of better options lying around, but the signing of Suzuki ensured that there would be no real effort to go find one, either.
  13. Capps was awful, and not just because of who they gave up for him and what eventually happened to the guy who supposedly made it ok to give up the guy they gave up for him. Capps posted FIPs of 4.75 and 4.49 and K/9 rates to match them. That's... dreadful, even for a middle reliever. And when you consider that even mediocre closers accumulate WAR faster than the ice cream machine line accumulates obese diners at Old Country Buffet, his -0.4 and -0.1 season tallies tell a pretty ugly story to all but the most anti-WAR peaceniks. Capps makes me hope that when Ryan steps down, he takes his successor out into the hall outside his office and tells him to listen to the picture on the wall of Matt Capps on the mound in a Twins uni. "I don't hear anything", the new GM will say. "Listen closer", Ryan will tell him. And then, a haunting, barely audible whisper: "Don't pay..." New GM Guy leans in closer. "Don't pay... for saves...".
  14. Correia, if you go by the Twins' version of "worked out". Pelfrey, if they immediately put him on the shelfrey before he can undo his 2015 contribution. Unless you're a big Rick Reed fan, though, you'd have to go back to John Smiley or Steve Bedrosian, wouldn't you?
  15. Well, if it's mostly just money, then go for it. After all, it's not my money, and Lord knows we TD'ers have made enough unsuccessful attempts at untying the Gordian knot of unspent payroll carryover to justify surrender with honor to the idea that surplus money is lost to the same black hole as 'the missing sock'. That being said, the only reason I'm not holding my breath in protest at the notion of a team with the 8th best run differential in the AL trading for a setup man is that it's not Wild Bill Smith doing the trading (PTL!) But if they're going to trade a prospect of modest value for 25 innings of middle relief despite having one of the best bullpens in all of the minors at Rochester, then that prospect better not just be the regular kind of fungible, he'd better be the 'nearly empty butane lighter' kind of fungible. PS Was going to say that he'd "better put the fun in 'fungible' ", but it wouldn't really make any sense...
  16. He should at least be recovered enough to be a late-inning defensive sub for Delmon...
  17. http://msagostino.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/fish-piercing.png?w=300&h=201
  18. Gameday says 1025. That... may not be right, though.
  19. 3-1, 2-2, it's all the same in flyover country...
  20. Good advice. And on behalf of the board, may I say that it's a pleasure to have you posting here at TD, Mr. Boras?
  21. Beat me to it. Will 4/40 get it done?
  22. Greg Gagne used to teach this at his baseball camp, based on his experience from the one time he went 3-0 in his career...
  23. Clean 8th in the books, and now I can save my profanity for bad drivers instead of the Twins pen! Happy 4th! Peace out!!!
  24. Verlander not exactly lighting it up since he returned and MigCab to the DL for six weeks, and I would have answered 'no' even before those developments...
