BigJoeGun got a reaction from Al from SoDak for a blog entry, Review of T he Glory of Their Times: The Story of the Early Days of Baseball Told by the Men Who Played It (Harper Perennial Modern Classics)
I recommend this book for any baseball history lover. I listened to the audio version and I’d say that’s the best way to go because you get to hear the actual voices of these players from eras gone by. The stories are fantastic. Buy the book using this link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0061994715/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?ie=UTF8&dib_tag=se&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.7fjk1HXRssxp4xminq-cCeHyuyzhT53tyot69f6-cdGSydFSdD0Gik_Q8ApPIiQxbc-wL3cc_9J7vnUltVCUfUHtKSvccVYMKPeH1pWwJwzQ4_bpnWP96H4Yr_r5hhMqi3BFF0qSxmKQ0xYof48AUxlTOISOJhR4clV_kyqU57x7eX0_JDk4-cKUkD_hAcVRqIV0C3J0veFBsUbpxhJJiQ.roC7PnJNZfg8p9SVEBV4kCX-U8MBoSIqztxjGUHewBU&qid=1710875447&sr=8-1

BigJoeGun got a reaction from Oldgoat_MN for a blog entry, Review of “Hi Everybody!” by Herb Carneal
Hi again everyone. I hope you all are well. I just finished reading Herb Carneal’s book titled “Hi Everybody!” Here are my thoughts:
This book is about one of, if not the man, I wanted to be growing up, “The Voice of the Minnesota Twins” on the radio. This was a good book, I just wish he had told more behind the scenes stories rather than talking about individual games that we can read about in other publications. I wish I had read this when it actually came out instead of now since so much has changed since then. All in all a decent book and one that a Minnesota Twins fan, a fan of baseball or a Minnesota sports fan in general would probably enjoy.. 3 out of 5 stars.
You can purchase it on Amazon here https://www.amazon.com/Hi-Everybody-Herb-Carneal/dp/0931714699/ref=mp_s_a_1_fkmr2_1?crid=1V0FQZGT79RLO&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.GLJy1R2kyEYN-dgzzYBVlxfkuJsXgmLWwo3yGecdoKfebjcF7l0CSwGX5gdkB8oCQUfVo24fuMw_4M9QwfDqWVUJuBb6hBSnUNj5jFAyI3c.31V7n38QSVySyvUhbC8Ex2reM62lwgmpOR0JWDC1wlU&dib_tag=se&keywords=hello+everybody+herb+corneal&qid=1713757689&sprefix=hello+everybody+herb+carneal%2Caps%2C98&sr=8-1-fkmr2

BigJoeGun got a reaction from jkcarew for a blog entry, Review of “Tony Oliva: The Life and Times of a Minnesota Twins Legend”
This book written by Thom Henninge tells the story of the great Tony Oliva.
Tony O. has a fascinating life story from growing up in Cuba to coming to the USA to pursue his dream of playing baseball. This book really delves into all the things that this man has endured to make his dream happen. Unfortunately that dream came to an end sooner than he would have liked and was published before he received a long overdue honor of getting into the Hall of Fame. A must read for any Twins or just baseball fan in general. If you’re interested, you can buy it here: https://www.amazon.com/Tony-Oliva-Times-Minnesota-Legend/dp/0816694893/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=3NJN9UFYV977Q&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.idLCl4cEvKUucSeMqouMWvVCqQsuTI1A8avNx1X9WzFNJ64VkU-laCMTlYZ_ZaVskJSf3iVAe4UCvhGBWTmpJKbvwx4nb69UBv_N6lHfbc2f265t91BsFPbZAQ-qVchmdf_iMUkMzqgY_k17KZEOtyxvjGjFsgOAWLPXyH-lLTVNsmhC10_QkMCBWc3XyGRMz1BYmz89gW3K9W4hdJKUig.Zl-q0F2r0PF24R8yyP_WVmOusdttFXj-9tUkV-NOyvk&dib_tag=se&keywords=tony+oliva&qid=1712012873&sprefix=tony+oliva%2Caps%2C111&sr=8-1 -

BigJoeGun got a reaction from jkcarew for a blog entry, Starting a new thing. Book reviews!
Hi everyone,
Sorry I haven’t posted in a very long time. Everyone on here does such a good job covering the team I’ve been struggling with figuring out what could I possibly add that would be unique to the site. I haven’t found anyone on here who reviews books so that’s something I’m going to start doing. If there is someone on here who already does this I’m sorry for stealing your idea.
The first book I’m going to review is “Harmon Killebrew: Ultimate Slugger” by Steve Aschburner. Here’s my review:
I thought this book was great! This is a great biography of the greatest slugger in Washington Senators/Minnesota Twins history. I thought the story of his life and career was really well done by this author. I especially loved the stories about Harmon off the field since I already knew about his playing career exploits. It made me really jealous of my wife who got to meet Harmon in real life before he passed away. Highly recommended.
You can buy the book from Amazon here on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Harmon-Killebrew-Ultimate-Steve-Aschburner/dp/1600787029/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=3LJKIPBLX1FWA&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.1IWTgxRUrrDZSnHTyrIZNcu6C4cRlqcPI7E89o47yMHjCSanbmhj_emo84vsAVaNnhbWhJQ7O8Rhs0cqz5xlbsz6UQu4TI-dRKM6BzjJXTm8LCEhSpRbGsTjAt6_wMb5Q2tygs3oYP4fbN3PQXiMqABkUKPY5zaFdBz9Yyl6znvfZue8NpXQw0j0FwFHaYcqs3GMJSdv92_DC47NcoIMqg.FkQJ3fTkStl80fMIl2GR61DOqC5_mwMa-MYmBmHVNxA&dib_tag=se&keywords=harmon+killebrew&qid=1710444362&sprefix=%2Caps%2C332&sr=8-2

BigJoeGun got a reaction from cHawk for a blog entry, Kirilloff is back up; Polanco to IL as Twins go to Phoenix
It has been announced just a little bit ago that 1B/OF Alex Kirilloff has been recalled from the Triple-A St. Paul Saints and second baseman Jorge Polanco has been put on the injured list retroactive to June 13th, due to lower back tightness. This comes as the Twins head to Phoenix to face the 30-35, 4th place Arizona Diamondbacks this weekend. It will be interesting whether Kirilloff is put in the lineup right away tonight or not as the Twins will face lefty Madison Baumgarner.
Here are the weekend pitching matchups:
Devin Smeltzer vs. Madison Madison Baumgarner tonight
Dylan Bundy vs. Luke Weaver Saturday
Chris Archer vs. Merrill Kelly Sunday
I will be interested to see how the Twins handle the Diamondbacks pitching going from an aging veteran in Baumgarner tonight to fresh faced guys the rest of the weekend and the Arizona bullpen which is not good. The Twins should be able to take 2 of 3 this weekend if not all three. Be sure to tune into the Twins Nation Podcast for our next episode where we will discuss this series as well as the just completed Mariners series and the upcoming schedule where the Twins will see a lot of the Cleveland Guardians, their closest competitor in the AL Central. You can find the podcast on my website https://www.podpage.com/twins-nation/ or anywhere you get your podcasts!
