  1. Yeah, the quote after quote after quote from actual news sources was a big time refusal. Sorry about that.
  2. That's stated as a fact. Is it one? Has he or his agent or anyone said this or is it just a guess?
  3. It's already been covered that that never happened. I guess sticking to your BS story shows some moxie, but other than that very little.
  4. Blackburn was shaved for his latest start. But maybe he felt like he wasn't? "Now" things are getting ridiculous.
  5. What are the chances that we end up fans of the only team to have injuries? Just rotten luck. Or...something.
  6. If you're setting the line at 4, I'm taking the over. For sure.
  7. I didn't laugh before...or after. I did kind of sadly shake my head from side to side in a bit of dazed wonder, though.
  8. Agree with the routine part. I don't follow other teams closely enough to know if they follow the same pattern, but it's long been a Twins move to have the #1 catcher get days off regularly by having the backup associated with a certain pitcher. Way back to Ortiz catching Scott Erickson I remember that happening. I don't know if it's true, but I always felt like it was often the "best" pitcher that got the offensively-less-adept catcher with the thinking that the better pitcher would need less run support.
  9. One could probably stop wondering, though, if they realized that Pavano's first half-season here was 2009 when Butera didn't appear for the Twins. And in 2010, Mauer caught 14 of Pavano's first 17 starts (Ramos caught one, also). After the first week of July, Butera started catching Pavano regularly (13 of his final 15 starts)...and Pavano's ERA stayed about the same (actually ticked up a tiny bit).
  10. Was absolutely bunting for a hit. He's been showing bunt a few times recently with 3B slightly shifted and playing way back. This was the first one I actually saw him put into play (although I haven't watched Friday's game). He got it a bit too far from the line and too close to the pitcher who made a good bare-handed pickup and got him on a fairly close play.
  11. It may be written about elsewhere or "common knowledge" (although my guess is there is differeng common knowledges that are contradictory), but how is Arcia defensively? Looks like he's gone from playing all over the outfield to mostly RF, but I would guess that has as much to do with who his teammates are as it does with his own skills. Anyone have actual knowledge on his fielding?
  12. The same reason they like pretending that Delmon Young became awesome when he left and that Matt Garza was much better the second he got away from the Twins and on and on and on. Some people have such a negative slant to their viewpoint that they literally invent things (or are swayed by other people's inventions because they actually want them to be true) that are negative. Which is especially puzzling when there are enough ACTUAL things to complain and be frustrated about without having to make them up. I've tried to stop (slow down?) pointing out these inventions, but in this case it felt better to be able to do it while actually agreeing with someone else doing it first. Or something.
  13. Not that it makes it right or wrong...but it's not like Gardenhire is the only one or even in the minority there. It's very much "the way of things" at this time. I would imagine it will change in about...five years. Maybe ten. (This post won't be saved anywhere to hold me accountable to that prediction, will it?)
  14. ESPN Play-by-Play stating that Anthony Swarzak is pitching for Balitmore to start bottom of the 9th. Weirdest trade ever!!!
  15. Perkins is unavailable today according to StarTribune (and pitched two straight and three of last four days).
  16. Randy Johnson comes to mind. Cue Lloyd Bentsen rip off...
  17. Backtracking or clarifying? His original comments were essentially: In Minnesota, they emphasized going the other way. In Baltimore, they encouraged me to pull more. The second round of comments were essentially: I needed that intermediate step to fix my swing. The Star Trib article that I couldn't copy and paste is a little more clear and emphatic on Hardy's part, and he even said he was quite sure he'd have had a much improved year in Minnesota in '11 compared to '10 (although he qualified that the ballpark itself may have dampened some results). I still don't see how the second round of quotes undoes or backtracks anything from the first. They simply clarified and added context that he seemed to go out of his way to make sure got out there. And again...that seems quite far from animosity to me.
  18. Sigh. Here we go again.
  19. From Pioneer Press March 8: But Hardy said Wednesday that he wasn't trying to disparage his former team. He, in fact, credited Twins hitting coach Joe Vavra with fixing the flawed swing he brought to Minnesota in 2010. "If anything," Hardy said, "a lot of credit goes to Joe." (End quote) There was a more in-depth series of quotes explaining and expanding on how Hardy thought Vavra helped resurrect his swing the following day in the Star Tribune, but it won't let me copy for some reason. Google "jj hardy vavra" and it will be one of the top two results. Not exactly "animosity" as I understand the word.
  20. I wondered and worried about this, but his AL walk rates and NL walk rates are about the same. Carry on.
  21. Those are not the only options.
  22. That makes sense, too. I know I looked fairly breifly once and got annoyed/frustrated/lazy at it (data) not being readily available like I wanted so I quit. Thanks for finding the stuff you have. It's interesting, too, to try and piece together partial bits of information.
  23. I thought the article title was fairly misleading compared to the article itself and the context of how that was said. Was basically a "he'd rather be with the big league club than with the AAA club." Wouldn't everyone?
  24. More at-bats going the other way maybe (and with more players being right-handed, that would shift things that way)? Don't know either.
