  1. Looking at some league leaders on ESPN, the Twins have a lot going for them right now. Polanco is 6th in BA and 2nd in WAR, Rosario is 2nd in HR and 5th in RBI, Berrios is tied for 2nd in wins and 5th ERA, and Odorizzi is 2nd in ERA. Not bad, not bad. It would be nice to have legitimate MVP and Cy Young candidates again.
  2. I agree. It is fun to have a team with a lineup where on any given night, any one of them could be the star. Bert and Justin were talking about this last night. Who do you pitch to? Who do you want to face in this lineup? Right now if you are an opposing pitcher, the answer is none of them.
  3. Especially, if he is reliant on the cutter to get outs. Perez has the arsenal to get batters out a couple of different ways. If he can command his fastball, throw the changeup and/or curve for strikes, and have a wipe out cutter, that should be enough to keep batters guessing and off balance.
  4. Kuehcle for $25M/3yr. prorated for this season after the draft in June (so we don't lose a draft pick)? Would be a nice addition to the rotation if he is still available. Probably depends on what he thinks fair market value is since he is holding out until someone is willing to pay him what he thinks he is worth.
  5. Always nice to see the leverage index at basically zero from the sixth inning on during a win. This was a pretty one-sided affair.
  6. DFA Adrianza for Sano and then option Cave for Astudillo. Keep Gonzalez as the utility guy off the bench. If Gonzalez or Adrianza were hitting a little better, it might be worth trying to trade them for prospects. I don't think there would be anything of value in return for either guy right now.
  7. The Twins performed on the good end of what I was expecting. I said this time last week, that anything between two and four wins would be what we could expect from four with Houston and three in New York. Getting four wins in the last week against quality opponents was good for the team. Now, it is time to feast on some less than quality opponents for the next week and a half. According to FiveThirtyEight, the Twins are slight underdogs tonight (they may be underrating Perez a little bit) but should be favored in every game until the Seattle series next weekend.
  8. I watched about the last half of the game last night. I actually had to Google "Martin Perez" to see where the heck we got him from and what his deal is. Goes to show you that one man's trash is another man's treasure. We might have found a gem in the Rangers trash heap. On ESPN, some of the Astros hitters were quoted as saying that they have seen Perez plenty with the Rangers but he looked like a totally different pitcher last night. Good game Perez and keep up the hard work.
  9. I agree that the starting rotation has overall been fairly average over the course of the season up to this point. However, average is better than what we have seen the last few seasons from the Twins starters. Average might actually be better than what any of us could have expected from this group. I would be looking to see if we can add an arm later in the season. I actually think it is the bullpen that has been better than advertised. The Twins come into the season with no real closer and a ton of question marks. So far, it has been nice to see the bullpen keep the club in games late and hold opposing offenses down. If we can steal a few more 1-0, 2-1, or 3-2 games from good teams like the Astros, we will be in good shape for the season. My only concern is can the offense keep chugging along. Fifty homeruns in the month of April is a ridiculous number and probably not a sustainable pace. Some of the offensive numbers look a little gaudy because we have had the opportunity to feast on the Orioles early in the season and it is clear that Baltimore just plain stinks. If we have an average starting rotation, a slightly above average bullpen, and our current offense, we should be in decent shape.
  10. When you say "20 days on an optional assignment", I assume this is 20 TOTAL days during the course of the season, not 20 consecutive days. If not, there would be an obvious way to manipulate when an option is actually used. You could have a player on an optional assignment in the minor leagues for 18 or 19 days, recall them to the majors for the requisite amount of time, and then send them back to the minors for another 18 or 19 days.
