  1. 6. Twins 5. Jays- They dealt Marisnick and Nic to the Marlins, but still have Sanchez and Syndergaard. Also have D'Arnaud and a lot of HS talent that will b developing this year 4. Rays- 6 of their top 10 are Pitchers. Guerrieri has potential to be an ace . The rest of their system is built up with pitchers/young hitters. 3. Diamondbacks- They have 3 ACES in Skaggs/Bauer/Bradley with Skaggs being the best, but the rest of their system is weak. 2. Rangers- The System speaks for itself. Profar,Olt, Perez, and a seemingly endless supply of top Latin American talent. I was considering putting them at 1, but their younger talent is about ready to play their first Full league season this year, after this year when Walker and Zunino make their Debut's, the Rangers will be #1. Texas lacks a real ace in their system as well, although Perez will be a good 2. 1. Mariners- Walker is an Ace, Paxton and Hultzen will top out at #2's (which is very hard to find these days), Zunino is a a star behind the plate and his bat backs that up. Maurer is regarded very highly in their system after his breakout year. Not to be a huge homer but I think it could be argued that the Twins stack up pretty well with the Jays and Rays after adding Meyer and May. The D-Backs could move down if they pull the trigger on any of the rumored megadeals they've been rumored to be involved in. It looks like they're hellbent on moving Bauer or Skaggs for a premium shortstop.
  2. http://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/professional/article_09b4717c-79bb-528a-a5cd-851f004ba37e.html Saw this on Rotoworld this morning. This would be a great move for the right price, he could platoon with Mastro in CF to start the season and move to more 2B once Hicks is ready. I wonder what the Cards would want for him?
  3. Point taken, he's a #1 in a terrible rotation and #4 in an outstanding one. So it's safe to say on a competitive team he's a #3 or #4.
  4. I went with about the same - Although Span's contract was very team friendly, Revere was even more cost effective and under team control for longer. - Worley is coming back from an injury and while a very good get, he's realistically a #3 or #4 starter on a good team. May has a lot to figure out before we get too excited, his command/control regressed in 2012. At the very least he should be an excellent late inning reliever. - Meyer has the highest ceiling of the group, isn't too far behind May in progression and showed improvement in his command in 2012.
  5. I thought that same thing, last year Mauer and Morneau were the only positives that kept me watching. I'm a big prospect geek and the idea of trading Mauer for prospects and a chance to sign Ryan Dempster is vomit inducing.
  6. Trading Mauer would be a major mistake for the following reasons: 1. His contract is becoming more and more reasonable in the context of the free agent contracts being handed out this offseason. 2. He demonstrated that he can stay healthy given the proper workload. He's at least an average defender both behind the plate and at 1B, his bat is a plus even when he DH's. 3. He's still young enough to build around and the Twins are assembling a nice core through the minor league system to support him. 4. He's the face of the franchise, the guy that the casual fans rally around. 5. The local boy who plays his entire career in his childhood back yard and marries a local girl is too good of a story. This sounds cheesy but it's good for baseball and it's good for the Twins. Peter Gammons and the Red Sox need to drop it, it's not happening or at least it better not.
  7. I'm so sick of Twins apologists and statements like this, quit trying to be an armchair GM. IT'S A ONE YEAR FRICKING DEAL! I don't even care about Feldman specifically, but to justify passing on a player over $2-3 million on a ONE YEAR contract?!?! Come on!!
  8. Saw this on YouTube, he looked pretty sharp
  9. I completely disagree, I don't think anyone who was let go yesterday is being made a scapegoat by the organization. To me, it seems as if Terry Ryan felt the MLB Clubhouse needed some fresh perspective and to make that happen some contracts were not renewed. There are some very capable replacements within the organization that need to be advanced which opens the door to bring in more fresh perspective to the minor league system. No one on this staff should be shocked by this, it's not so much that any of them failed as it is that the product on the field was terrible and some change was necessary. I have no problem with Gardy and Andy getting one last chance with a new supporting cast. Maybe these coaching changes and a few shrewd acquisitions will put this team back into contention in 2013. It's not out of the realm of possibility, Oakland and Baltimore both had very successful seasons in more difficult divisions with no more talent than the Twins. If not, they're probably both out on their asses by midseason.
  10. To me, none of the pitchers have established themselves enough to warrant further consideration for the #2 pick and Zunino doesn't have enough upside. If I had the choice I'd draft Carlos Correa over Buxton who hasn't shown enough power this spring and plays a less scarce position. The Twins could do a lot worse than to have two monster 3B prospects in the pipeline at the same time.
  11. I think I remember hearing that about Moses too, not sure if that was what forced him out of the game but I remember he had it. Didn't Garbe have night blindness or something crazy like that?
  12. The Twins already have Hendricks, Wimmers, Gibson, Boer, Salcedo in the pipeline that profile as 3-4 starters with a chance to be a #2 if something goes dramatically right. Apple and Zimmer both have some serious questions including declining velocity in recent outings. Gausman isn't being discussed above pick 7 or 8 by most of the pundits from what I've seen. None of these three seem like a very sure bet to be even a future #2 starter so I question how much of an upgrade they'd really be over what the Twins already have. At this point if the twins go with pitching at pick #2 I'd rather see them go with Max Fried, at least there's some projection left to dream on and he's left-handed.
  13. Not an IPA fan? I'm a total sucker for every beer they make, I have to get my hands on all of their limited run and anniversary beers every year. Don't live in the metro area so unfortunately I miss out on quite a few of their limited run taps at the bars. If bandwagon is anything like furious it should be great.
  14. Thanks for the post Seth! I consider myself to be about a 7 or 8 fan this year, down from a 9+ prior to last year. I guess my wavering fanhood stems from my concern that maybe the Twins front office has failed to notice their cheese may have moved. The way they collapsed last year really got me wondering if "the Twins way" really works anymore. It's just been so long since they've put a team on the field that lives up to those standards. I really hope they prove me wrong and I do genuinely believe that they're capable of doing so. I don't expect much out of the big league team this summer, they've been pretty hard to watch so far, but I'll keep watching and hoping. I'll stay glued to the minor league box scores everyday. I'll attend as many games in person as I can - especially now that I can get Surly beer! No matter how frustrated I get I will always support this team.
  15. I can't say enough how much this excites me. Can't wait to get to a game and try out the exclusive Target Field brew.
  16. I've been thinking the Braves would line up pretty well in a trade. Maybe something centering around Denard Span for any one of Beachy, Minor, Delgado or Jurrjens. The Braves need a long-term centerfielder badly and have a ton of pitching to spare.
  17. Aaron Hicks was not even close to Buxton's class when he was drafted. A lot of teams liked him better as a pitcher and frankly he was expected to take as long as he's taken or longer to develop at that time. His expectations were increased quite a bit when he surprised everyone with much more advanced plate discipline then expected. The reports on Buxton are that he's the ideal combination of the Upton brothers, Justin's bat and makeup with Bossman Jr's speed, arm and outfield range. That's a very impressive package and worthy of top 2 consideration in pretty much any draft. To me, unless a pitcher seriously steps up between now and the draft you HAVE to take Buxton if he's available, regardless of the glut of outfielders the Twins already have. He's the best talent available and you don't pass that up for need with pick #2.
  18. I don't have it in front of me but Baseball America classifies number one starters as possessing three or more dominant pitches, plus durability and plus makeup or something along those lines. Salcedo seems to have the makings of the plus durability and makeup from every report I've read. At this point he doesn't have even a single dominant pitch, the fastball velocity and command haven't come around as hoped, the change up is pretty average and his breaking ball is far from reliable much less dominant. He's young enough to improve quite a bit but it seems pretty unlikely he'd be able to vault himself into number one or number two status.
  19. Unless they're getting a major home state discount I hope they pass. With the recent injury history he doesn't seem like enough of an upgrade to take innings away from the other 20+ prospects and development projects they already have in camp.
  20. I think you're a little optimistic there... I think more realistically Hendricks has #3 starter upside but is more of a #4 on a contending team. Gibson is a 2/3, Wimmers is a 3/4, Salcedo is a 4/5 Nick Blackburn type unless he can figure out how to strike a few more people out.
  21. Sure, the 2nd or 3rd tier prospects come in and perform as you would expect a 2nd or 3rd tier player to perform...league average. How many more role players and middle relievers does this team need? I for one don't feel the problem is a lack of talent in the upper minors, it's the lack of impact/first division regular type talent. Right now Sano is the only consensus impact talent in the entire system, the next closest group (Benson, Arcia, Rosario) are more popular with some scouts/publications than others and are probably overvalued by Twins fans and bloggers.
  22. Sorry to have touched a nerve. I just thought I sensed a little arrogance/self-satisfaction which I found obnoxious. I don't think this proves your point that Giolito had mechanical problems, I've read as many reports on him as I've been able to find and have never seen anything but glowing compliments on his mechanics. This a VERY unfortunate freak injury to arguably the top talent in the draft. This affects him personally/financially and frankly it at least indirectly affects the Twins by removing a top prospect from the top of the draft board.
  23. "Huh. Weird" I took this as smug, not sure how to take it any other way.
  24. Acting smug over someone's injury seems a little questionable...just saying
