  1. Sort of reminds me of Brent Hinds, the guitarist of Mastodon - a clean cut version.
  2. Your uplifting words have given me something to look forward to in the years to come.
  3. Don't take offense Craig. It's all tongue in cheek. It went with the dog theme today that presented itself earlier in this game thread. I am sorry for your loss.
  4. Here is a picture of my dog. His name is "Worthless". I am having him put down tomorrow.
  5. It's obvious he is banged up, but this scenario was one a lot of people were concerned about. We were witnesses to watching youth abruptly fading into old age. I just turned 40 too this summer and I don't type as fast anymore. I started eating prunes. I watch squirrels do their thing watching from my window for hours a day. It sucks.
  6. Uncomfortable at first, but I imagine you would get used to it and depending on the chunkiness of it, it might come in handy if you are eating really spicy wings. It will stop the embarrassment of having a runny nose.
  7. You'll probably eat that amount of Bleu Cheese with the plethora of wings you eat. So, ultimately you come out a winner anyways.
  8. Houston, we have a problem...
  9. If you add in Shields that makes it a lot more complicated. If Shields and Kimbrel are attached at the hip to fix the mess the Friars made by signing Shields. A trade with the Twins is not probable - not that my earlier proposal was either by any stretch. In my humble opinion we need to open up starting spots for May, Berrios, maybe Duffy and by adding an elite relief pitcher, it affords you the opportunity to see if May can be a good starter. I would have been willing to add in Eades to my proposed deal or someone with a comparable prospect status.
  10. I'm no expert at trades or anything like that, but maybe this can be a scenario the Twins could try with The Friars. Nolasco, Burdi, Vargas or Arcia to the Pads for Craig Kimbrel. Nolasco and Kimbrel are owed around the same amount of money remaining on their contracts. Kimbrel is a 100% proven commodity. None of the guys we would be sending to the Pads are. Even though Burdi struggled this year, I am sure every team in MLB would be thrilled to have him. He is essentially Kimbrel's replacement at some point in the near future. It would not surprise me to see Nolasco bounce back pitching in the NL again and in Petco half of the time. With the departure of J. Upton most certainly in the cards, the power of Vargas or Arcia would probably be something they would be needing and wanting. Yeah, they are both poor defenders - I guess that's all I have to say about that. Although Kimbrel is the high end talent of this trade proposal, the Padres would be getting back two pieces that could figure into their very long term plans and Nolasco, who could certainly bounce back in a very positive way - pitching in the league he is comfortable with, playing in an extreme pitcher's park and being back home in Cali. It might motivate him? If anyone is going to **** on me for this proposal, please warn me first so I can put on a HazMat Suit.
  11. Wonderful words, It could not be phrased any better than that.
  12. Your hired! Second in command.
  13. What can I say? I am a forward thinking guy.
  14. Hey Platoon, It would be interesting if I did indeed get the gig. First of all not too many TD members know my real identity and wouldn't know the difference or care who the GM of the Mariner's is - they would probably wonder what the hell the Mariners we're doing hiring some no name guy with no prior baseball experience in anything. The few people who do know my identity would probably be happy for me, but be perplexed by how this thing happened, and expect this to be a very, very short term job for me. My first order of business would be to fix the disaster that is the hitting environment of Safeco Field. They moved in the fences, but that didn't really do all that much. The only way I can envision changing the offensive output is by eliminating the dense marine air that encompasses the Seattle Area from the field of play. That would require (1) a bio dome built over the area in which Safeco Field is located or (2) draining and landfilling about 2/3 of the Puget Sound. If option 2 was the only one I could get approved, that would mean demolishing Mount Baker, located in the Northern Cascade Range of Washington and having the debris shipped to the southern and central areas of the Puget Sound. It would be quite an intensive project and would require a 100+ water pump stations being built with drainage pipes running across the Olympic Peninsula, while at the same time a water barrier being built in the northern third of the Puget Sound. It would cause some shipping problems involving ocean vessels, but I think the city of Seattle would be happy moving these shipping facilities to the Northern areas of the Puget Sound, because it is for their beloved hometown baseball team. I believe the whole state of Washington would be thrilled as well. Where will the money come from? Well, I am sure I will be given a certain amount of money to work with and will use parts of these funds to hire women/men of the night to seduce local city and state officials and politicians and black mail them into using their corporate ties to produce the money necessary to execute these plans, whether that be the bio-dome or the land filling and drainage of the Puget Sound. Either one works for me. I thought I'd take a few minutes away from putting my resumé together to answer your post. I'm still working on the baseball ops and personnel agenda... boy, I've got my work cut out for me. But I thought it would be nice to share with you my first order of business. Wish me luck! Bark
  15. Sorry Van. I was thrust into a covert mission where I was deployed to the State Fair Grounds to save some Pronto Pups, Cheese Curds and Pita Pocket sandwiches from not being eaten. I also rescued an undetermined amount of beers from a similar fate. Whine Line Game Thread Stylie was a smashing success! No arguments can be made to state otherwise. Kick Ass job!!!
  16. yeah, unfortunately, that is the same conclusion I have come to.
  17. From what I have read, Jack Z. is an awful boss who passes blame onto people who work under him, when in all reality, he is the one who should take the blame and responsibility. It sounds like this firing should have happened years ago. I also read a comment from Seattle's Team President today, saying that "He wasn't a baseball man and it would be recommended to the new GM that Lloyd McClendon and his staff remain past this season. That's what you call "Scaring prospective GM candidates away." Maybe I should apply, I just might have a better chance of landing the Seattle GM position than winning the Powerball... wouldn't that be something! But seriously, maybe I should send in my spectacular resumé. 1. Member of Twins Daily 2. Watch a fair amount of baseball 3. Understand sabermetrics are important 4. I like Seattle 5. I have been to Seattle 6. Worked in a print shop and designed and did layout for high school baseball tournament programs 7. I am a fan of Soundgarden, the Melvins, and Pearl Jam 8. I know who Alvin Davis is 9. I know Lake Washington is a fresh water lake and the Puget Sound is salt water, brackish in certain parts. 10. Mount Rainier is beautiful 11. I believe the Green River Killer to be a bad person ... and many, many more qualifying skills and knowledge. I believe Glunn posted something about the disfunction in Seattle almost 2 years back. It was about Eric Wedge's abrupt departure from the team. It seemed awful then. Here is one of the links that I read this evening: http://www.seattletimes.com/sports/mariners/jack-zdurienciks-ms-legacy-more-than-3-dozen-departed-managers-coaches-scouts-staffers/
  18. As we all know - Europe is dealing with an unprecedented number of refugees from Syria and North Africa, mostly of which are muslim. On one hand I feel the passion of helping these people because of the unimaginable horror of which they have been through. On the other hand, I see the existing citizens of the sponsoring countries being put on edge and not wanting anything to do with it. Islamophobia is ripe in many/all European nations and if things keep going the way they are, it is going to explode. As we all know, some landmark bad things have happened the last few years with Islamic extremists in Europe and I can understand why people are living on the edge of their seats and the same goes for the 2nd/3rd generation of euro muslims who want to live a peaceful life and go about their business as citizens of these nations without being discriminated against. But the truth is, they have a really big problem on their hands. The fact that thousands of European citizens have been recruited to join Islamic State is scarey and the shock waves of this movement are very much alive and still tempting the remaining confused and disfunctional individuals. Islamism is fairly a new phemomena. Sure, it's roots might be 70 years old, but it has kept evolving to the point it is at now... a very dire point - almost unrealistic. Mostly all countries deal with religious fundamentalist groups, some are not so dangerous, some are very dangerous and what we consider terrorists - and their attacks will be pulled off from time to time. That is very disturbing, but it is a reality we must get used to. For America, we had the the tragic shooting and murders at the Military recruiting office in Tennessee. We also had some dip**** American who was influenced by IS to attempt to attack a Military base in Kansas. Unlike Europe or other regions, we are more bogged down with unexplainable killing sprees - Columbine, Sandy Hook, the Morning news reporter and camera man in Virginia + many, many more. I have great disdain for religious fundamentalists. Take off the mask, enjoy the one life that you have, make the best out of it, pretty yourself up, if you have the money - buy something for yourself that makes you feel good or smile. I hope no one takes offense to what I have typed out, I am accepting of all religions, but all religions need to be part of the solution and not the problem. It is your personal journey and not mine or the guy or gal next to me. Understand that belief is a smaller world than what you once imagined and define it upon your own sacrifices or accomplishments and keep it contained to your own Shangri La. Saying that, which I am sure is flawed. What the hell can we do to make this awful movement we have going on in Syria and Iraq and the refugee crisis in Europe solvable?
  19. Was that one of the noises that was made in that sorted affair?
  20. That's probably why it never took off here in the states. It's sort of gross when somebody who has monkey paws is cooking you a meal.
  21. Did her son in law, Dale Sandstrom recommend you for the job in GR?
