  1. I've been a Twins fan since the earliest years. I have only very vague memories of the 1961 season but started to pay more attention the following year. While my dad was a fan I credit my mom with making baseball part of our family's lives. There weren't very many televised games back then but she usually had the radio tuned in with Herb Carneal and the rest of the crew.
  2. And that was on a 45° day. That ball goes significantly farther on a warm humid afternoon.
  3. With this lineup this game could be the blueprint for a lot of games this season. Score a lot of runs with power, enough to provide a cushion for our pitching staff.
  4. This is maybe one of the more recognizable sound blasts in regular rotation at Target Field but it's unfortunately only average in the level of obnoxiousness. Next time you attend a game there I challenge you to actively pay attention to how loud and frequent and unrelenting the blasts of sound are. It will be illuminating, but a caveat: it could potentially forever ruin the ballpark experience for you. I realized I had learned to tune it out when I attended a game in 2019 with a friend of mine who commented thusly: "I wonder what they would do if they had epilepsy awareness night at a Twins game." Now I can't not notice it. It's such a shame that I can't go to see my favorite team playing my favorite sport in a beautiful stadium without being assaulted by the PA system.
  5. The problem is that the Twins organization itself is the one and only source of the overstimulation that this space seeks to shut out. IMHO, among other things the organization would do well to stop the loud and pounding music over the PA system after every pitch. (When I say after every pitch it's a slight overstatement. When I say loud and pounding it's a slight understatement.)
  6. And if two people do not concur that is concurrent concurn't.
  7. The Yankees and their fans deserve it.
  8. I do not believe that the Correa signing came out of the blue. That just doesn't happen when this much money is involved. My guess is that Falvey and Levine (and, of course, Pohlad), and Boras (and, of course, Correa) have been working on this for some time, possibly since before the lockout ended. The preceding transactions the Twins made were almost bizarre unless the FO knew that they had something solid in the works. That they were able to get this done with no one catching wind of it is practically miraculous. Edited to add: And if this season turns out to be a successful one for our favorite team Falvine will have guaranteed themselves tenure for a long, long time.
  9. I've decided to try to convince myself that Correa wasn't directly involved in the cheating in Houston, that he only stayed quiet because he was contractually obligated to stay there and didn't want to make waves until he left, that he has completely rehabilitated himself, and that everything he does while in Minnesota will be totally clean and great.
  10. There are two catchers here. Remove one of them and insert Arraez as DH. 1. Arraez 2. Buxton 3. Polanco 4. Correa 5. Kiriloff 6. Sano 7. Kepler 8. Urshela 9. Sanchez/Jeffers
  11. Every silver lining has a cloud.
  12. I don't have the time or desire to find this out on my own so I'll ask: Are other teams going this crazy or is it just us?
  13. I'd swap Kepler and Kirilloff. I'd also put Polanco at 2B and Arraez at DH.
  14. I don't know for sure, but here's my guess. Raised bases allow the fielder to place his foot on the side of the base instead of directly on it, reducing the risk of injuries to both players from the foot being stepped on. Raised bases also enable the baserunner to grab the base and make it easier to slide to the edge of the base and also not to overslide. I think it's pretty obvious that home plate has to be flush due to considerations regarding a pitched ball.
  15. I don't want this to develop into a Josh Donaldson tangent, but this trade certainly impacts his role. I think it's very likely he'll be playing elsewhere come August.
  16. I agree. It tells us that what they think about Lewis is that he is not ready now and probably will not be ready before 2024. Keep in mind he's only 22 years old. Not many shortstops make strong showings at the major league level at that age even under the best of circumstances, and he has had a very unfortunate sequence of events significantly impeding his progress.
  17. It used to be that as soon as the third out was recorded it was hustle in, hustle out, batter get your helmet on while the pitcher takes 8 quick ones and play ball. Rarely more than 60 seconds. And the broadcasters had to simply deal with it. But now each half-inning is 2:00. (It was 2:30 but was shortened a few years ago). That's 16 or 17 minutes of nothingness added to every 9-inning game.
  18. Yeah, for instance there was this 1954 bonus baby by the name of Killebrew.
  19. Warning: curmudgeon alert. Just because a little hill in South Dakota was altered by having four faces carved into it doesn't mean we should have to choose four and only four best or favorite or most important players. It is unreasonably arbitrary. And the idea of eliminating the most significant player (by far) in franchise history from consideration just because the owner of a family business moved his headquarters to another location makes it even more unreasonably arbitrary. I can't do it. OK, thanks for letting me vent.
  20. I assume your wink is because of the infrequency with which the Twins strongly contend. And I get that. But I didn't say not to go big. I said not to overpay. There's a difference.
  21. I don't comment on specific trade proposals made by fans because it's no better than fantasy baseball. But I will say that trading and free agent signings have this in common: do not overpay unless your team is already contending or strongly expected to contend and the transaction improves the chances of winning a World Championship within a year or, at the most, two.
