  1. According to Bert pitchers are the best athletes on the field.
  2. There is the rule 5 guy as well, they like him enough to have kept him so far and he certainly brings gas.
  3. Otani was such a get because he was super cheap even if he fails miserably he isn't a train wreck. If he takes time to break in or proves to only be an average player he is a great get for the money. I am very interested to watch it play out, I doubt he stays a pitcher/ hitter unless he proves to be a stud at both.
  4. What a weird off season. Losing out on Darvish and watching a lot of good relievers come off the board to end up with Rodney were super frustrating. In the end however 5 solid pitchers and a big bat were added all for minimal commitments and an expendable prospect and middling draft pick. The offense is legit and the rotation and pen are both much improved and have quality depth. A long Buxton extension would be the cherry on top.
  5. Closer is over rated as a role, fireman has proven to be much more valuable. Rodney has the track record and makeup to hold the closer spot down for a year. I am much more excited to have Reed + Hildy/ Duke on board to handle getting to Rodney. He is obviously a stop gap for a year, who is the next closer? I had thought it would be Chargois or maybe Burdi but those ships have sailed. Reed? FA? Jay?
  6. I am not a big Thibs fan, he is too outdated for me, but I don't think this is all on him. Butler was rested coming off the all star break. I do wonder if there was something up with him sitting out the all star game though, that was a kinda weird circumstance to have this happen 2 games later.
  7. There are multiple videos of him taking bp out now. He looks a bit thicker to me but those strib photos are pretty unflattering.
  8. Now Trevor May can make his beats and eventually Dozier's country time can be replaced in the club house lol. Much more of a punk/ metal guy myself but anything is better than country.
  9. He reminds me Phil Hughes. AL East guy coming off some struggles that likes to work up in the zone. He has a way better secondary pitch but less control. Get him out of playing on the turf in TB/TOR and the small stadiums in NY/BOS + not facing those big O lineups a bunch Solid addition to the middle of the rotation, Palacios is a decent young prospect but certainly an acceptable price. I would love to still see Lynn/ Cobb added but I think Falvine is probably done pitching wise now. C'mon Romero/ Gonsalvez take AAA by storm we will need someone to graduate and make an impact this year.
  10. Terry Doyle is the one that would be an upgrade.
  11. Saturday afternoon. Lynn 4 years somewhere between 60-70.
  12. My preference is Lynn, the coming over from the NL thing scares me (Nolasco) but he should benefit from our outfield defense the most. Cobb has succeeded in the toughest division but the lack of Ks is worrisome. Arrietta would be the obvious choice if he wasn't tied to Boras and seeking a ridiculous contract.
  13. With offense up as a whole in the league you have to be so far ahead of everyone else to make a real run off that advantage. I think the Blue Jays and Orioles of some recent years show this, they had killer power lineups and couldn't do diddly squat in the playoffs if they even got there. To me 3 really good pitchers are worth so much more than 3 really good hitters.
  14. Make Buxton, Berrios, and Lewis untouchable. If a trade can be worked out outside those 3 I think it is probably worth it to the Twins. I doubt Tampa would do it without Lewis inclusion though unless they wanted to take quantity over quality. As others have said they just really aren't motivated to move him he will be worth relatively the same for another year or 2 so they can wait to be blown away.
  15. I knew it wouldn't happen but damn I wanted to believe lol. Better get in on someone else quick.
  16. What does a realistic Kepler centric trade to Tampa look like? Kepler for Odirizzi straight up? Kepler, Gordon, Romero/ Gonsalvez, does there need to be +? for Archer?
  17. Good to see they have a real offer out to him, hopefully it is serious and competitive. I think they should sign him or one of the other top four no matter what else they do. In the mlbtraderumors piece about it they mention still active talks with the Rays about a trade, and that the Rays really like Kepler. What does a Kepler centric trade look like for a Rays pitcher? Kepler for Odirizzi straight up? Kepler/ Gordon/ Romero or Gonsalvez/ +? for Archer?
  18. I think they were already going to add to the top of the rotation with one of the top 4 free agent guys or a trade. Maybe this forces them to pull the trigger on a depth addition like Garcia/ Tillman/ Miley. This injury popping up right before spring training may actually make this weird slow off season work in their favor, as there would normally be slim pickings left.
  19. I think they are betting on Kinley's AFL, trying to snatch a flame thrower who just turned a corner to mlb readiness whereas Burdi is years off and Bard may still need time. If he flops send him back no big loss, if he sticks you look like a genius. Burdi and Bard were probably not getting protected weather they selected someone or not, there must be something in the internal evaluation where they don't think either are ready to stick.
  20. Its going to be a disappointment if he is a 8 million dollar reliever next year considering they don't seem to be willing to spend that on a healthy, already established, good reliever this year when there is a clear hole.
  21. Even if they sign an expensive starter like Darvish or Lynn they have the money and the need to spend on at least 1 good arm for the pen. The kids are coming has resulted in bad bullpens for multiple years now. Even if it all goes perfect and 7 of them are having mlb success halfway through the year that is an awesome spot to be in. A solid reliever is always a hot commodity at the trade deadline. Something like Kintzler and Swarzak would be cheap yet an upgrade. Something like Cishek and Mcgee wouldn't break the bank and would go a long way to making the pen an actual strength this year, instead of hoping for the roses to bloom yet again. Something like Holland/ Mcgee would signal the Twins really want to make noise in the playoffs.
  22. Shaw and Reed off the board, pen arms are starting to move quick.
  23. Dream world, Darvish Cole Santana Berrios Mejia/ Gibson/ Slegers/ Gonsalvez/ ect 1 top 1 good pen arm out of Davis/ Holland/ Mcgee/ Reed/ Nicaso/ Swarzak/ Cishek/ Smith/ Watson/ Rodney/ Kintzler
  24. Lol the anti omg there's snow there tweet.
