  1. I agree, Nick. Arcia (and the bullpen) made the game worth watching. I also think Morneau will get a suitable 2-3 yr offer at the end of the season. Colabello is late on the fast ball, Parmalee and Plouffe are AAAA players. If Morneau keeps driving in runs, the Twins need him.<br>
  2. I have been wondering about Bruno's coaching as well. Twins hitters have been in a funk all year, except for Mauer.
  3. I disagree. Deduno relies on ball movement, not power. He could be a successful pitcher for a long time. Besides, watching him pitch is pure entertainment!
  4. Ewwww -- don't say the "NB" words around here. Pelfrey is back in business, and I hope Ryan gives him a 3-year deal. Pelfrey regained his value pitching for us; he owes us big time for all those bad starts in April and May when we coulda been a contenda. /jk
  5. I hope the Twins extend Pelfrey. His rehab is going pretty much as expected, and it's not like we have a lot of good young pitchers at AAA that Pelfrey is holding back. Whatever happened to Cole DeVries? He would have made the team out of spring training, I think, if he hadn't hurt his arm. Albers has been outstanding in AAA. I think he's earned a chance to show us what he can do against major league hitters, and Scott Diamond needs a chance to get his mojo back in AAA. No thank you to Walters -- I've seen enough of him.
  6. Nope, won't happen. I have heard on good authority that a proven closer is a myth. Boston will just move one of their average starters to the bullpen -- voila! instant closer. /sarcasm
  7. Parmalee hasn't shown enough to earn the job. If Morneau is traded, I would rather move Plouffe to 1B and bring up Sano.
  8. Start from the middle of page 4. Thyrlos: "They got to do it [sell high], especially if someone is willing to overpay." My reading, Thyrlos would do it even if it was an even trade. markos: "I'd prefer to get a blue-chip prospect, but there aren't too many prospect-team need matches right now." My reading, markos would do a trade even if no blue-chip prospect came back. diehardtwinsfan: "... but Lee isn't a bad consolation prize". My reading, same message as markos. gunnathor: "... None of them would be a true ace." But he'd do the trade anyway. jorgenswest: "The Twins would be fortunate to get Webster or Barnes as the only piece." My interpretation: The Twins should take what they can get. and last but not least, your title to this piece: Trading Perkins Makes Too Much Sense. No it doesn't. Trading Perkins is way too easy. Keep the best players, and replace the mediocre ones.
  9. The trade offers being discussed do not include all-stars or grade A prospects coming back, except as "I wish they would do this trade, but they won't." If another team offers a grade A prospect for Perkins, hell yes I'm trading him. What I'm reading is, we can't get that much for Perkins, but we should trade him anyway. Well, no, we shouldn't.
  10. Matt Capps sucked. Jon Rausch was fine for a while, and then he lost his grip on the job I think. A lot of the closer position is mental. You can argue that a losing team doesn't need an All-Star closer, but my answer is, go find me some more All-Stars. Don't trade the ones we've got. I think Tonkin has the tools to be a good closer, but he might also be a good starter.
  11. Parmalee was sent down for the same reason that Arcia was: Lack of production. As soon as they start crushing AAA pitching again, they'll be back. Meanwhile, Colabello could hardly be worse than these two. I think the better question is, what took them so long to do this? The excuse I read in the paper is, they wanted Colabello to play in the AAA all-star game, an honor he richly deserved. Hmmm. Having watched one bad at-bat after another lately, I wish they had promoted Colabello sooner.
  12. Having seen many, many bad closers, both here and elsewhere, I am not at all interested in trading Perkins. A good closer is hard to find. Perkins is the kind of blue-chip player you want to build around. Now, if another team knocks on our door with an offer we shouldn't refuse (e.g. the KC trade for Shields), well then OK.
  13. Nick, I'm with you on that dream target. After three years of watching bad starting pitching, I could use some reliief. Not at $25 million/year though. The Phillies would have to pick up half of it.
  14. There's no one pushing Morneau, so why trade him? I wonder if management would consider moving Arcia to 1B in the future? He's not a very good outfielder.
  15. If Bill Smith signed Correia, I would agree he got lucky. Terry Ryan is a better judge of pitching than you or I, and IMO he didn't get lucky, he was just doing his job. What I want to know from Terry is, what happened with Worley? The Twins pitching in the past month has really improved. OK, from dismal to average, but still, I am surprised at the improvement. I am going to take Olney's tweet as a prediction. If the Twins starting pitching continues to improve, and the set-up guys in the bullpen (Pressley and Burton) get their mojo back, and Morneau finds his home-run stroke, this could be a fun second half of the season.
  16. I wouldn't be talking contract with him either, at this point. One home run in two months is falling off a cliff, not a slow decline. I'd like to see him go on a tear, and carry the Twins on his back for a month. No production, no offer.
  17. I vote to DFA Benson. He needs a fresh start (or a new line of business). We have better outfielders than him coming up, and he knows it. I think we should keep Thielbar in the bullpen, not send him back down. Not all of those bullpen guys are worth keeping. Roenicke, I'm looking at you. I think we should promote Albers for a week or two, until Gibson's Super-2 date is passed. It will be useful to Albers development, and we surely need some young pitchers to get better in a hurry. I don't think Pelfrey is going anywhere. Twins management knew when they signed him that his first year back might be rocky. The price you pay is one bad year. The hope is, he regains his ability to locate pitches while he's under contract to the Twins.
  18. If you want to express YOUR opinion, please feel free to do so. Saying "Everybody knows..." is, in my opinion, your attempt to make someone feel bad. And you kept on trying. If you don't want to talk baseball, don't post here.
  19. What, you're thinking we're sellers at the trade deadline? No way, man! We're gonna, um, win, um, third place in the Central. Go Twins!!
  20. I still say it's Parmalee and his .237 batting average that should be looking over his shoulder.
  21. I have a different "other half of the equation". Joe is getting more high strike calls than Lucroy. Even a sinker ball pitcher has to throw high once in a while.
  22. No doubt Revere is a better RF than Parmelee. I was thinking of our defense up the middle. Last April's starting shortstop was Carroll, who wore down when playing every day. I think Florimon has more range than Carroll, and Dozier has been impressive at 2B. There have only been a handful of games televised, including tonight's game, but the middle infield has looked great.
  23. Well, first of all, anybody is available if the price is right. Morneau is one of the Twins core players, and I predict he'll hit well enough to earn at least the minimum $13 million-for-a-year offer that will result in a draft pick if he leaves. The Twins won't trade him at the deadline unless a) Justin is happy about it, meaning Toronto, and the Twins get something really valuable in return, like they should have gotten for Santana. Put on your Rays GM cap. What would the Rays get if they had Justin and traded him to another team. If the Twins don't get that kind of offer, then keep him. Nobody is forcing us to trade Justin. If Arcia is raking in AAA, the guy who should worry is Parmalee.
  24. The Twins will score more runs, play better defense, pitch no better than last year for the first month or two. If we finish April near .500, it's because we won a lot of high-scoring games, like we did in spring training. Defensive improvements: Hicks has Span's range and Cuddyer's arm. Dozier played a sick second base in spring training. Mauer actually threw out a baserunner this spring. For the duration of the season, well, jeez, how do you develop young pitchers? You throw them out there and take some lumps. My beef with the Twins front office is, the Twins are also going to take some lumps when their veterans pitch. What I hope to see is, if a veteran (I'm looking at you, Correia) keeps getting pounded, move him to the bullpen and bring up another youngster.
