  1. Other teams are going to try to get us to sell low. If Ryan learns nothing else from the Revere trade, it's "sell high". I don't want Morneau to go anywhere, but if you've gotta trade him, then wait until July and hope he is ahead of Cabrera by then on the Triple Crown stats.
  2. There is no need to trade any more players now. That is, assuming you want fans in the stands this year. The Twins have some fine young arms in the pipeline, which is exciting to see. Now leave us some big bats so we can enjoy some wins! As for the Revere trade, I think Ryan walked into something unexpected. Revere was the best young CF available. I think he was able to auction Revere off to the highest bidder.
  3. The time to overpay for a free agent is, when you're one guy away from winning the division. I am OK with aiming for .500 next season, and going all-in in 2014. Gibson will be on an innings count in 2013. Meyer is a year away. The 2013 off-season is when you make your free-agent moves, not now. And furthermore, the Twins 3-4-5 hitters are Mauer, Willingham, Morneau. To say that the Twins "have no talent" is ridiculous.
  4. One thing to like about the trade for Meyer: Signing a veteran pitcher on a one-year "rental" can now be justified.
  5. If the Twins add enough good starting pitching, they are contenders again. Why start over?
  6. This looks like Garza part II. If he won't listen to Arizona's pitching coaches, why would he listen to ours?
  7. Why would any of Atlanta's top four starters be off-limits for Span? If we trade an above-average CF, we should get back an above-average pitcher. Don't be giving us your 6th or 7th starters.
  8. I think Molitor is the manager-in-waiting, and everyone knows it. Gardy should either keep the job or be fired. Don't bring his successor in early.
  9. The Twins have lost 90 games for two straight seasons, and if you think it will be better next year, my answer is, it all starts with pitching. The Twins don't have any proven starters outside of Diamond, and he's not an ace. He's a solid #3-#5 pitcher. The Twins are in rebuilding mode. As for Mauer, I have no beef with his contract or his performance. He earns his money. He's not exactly a good fit for a rebuilding team though. Furthermore, as has been pointed out by others, he'd probably hit .400 playing for Boston. If Boston were willing to overpay for him, I'd do it. But why would Boston do that? They're rebuilding too.
  10. If you want grit, fire, and determination, then Gardy's gotta go. All he wants are the strong, silent types like Mauer and Morneau. I am still pissed that the Twins let Hardy walk. Do you remember how he got injured in 2010? He stretched a double into a triple and hurt himself sliding into 3rd. In the bottom of the 9th. He then scored the winning run on a wild pitch. That's the kind of player you're talking about, and Gardy didn't think he was worth keeping around.
  11. I think the Twins should be aiming for 2014. As others have stated, both Baker and Gibson will be coming back from major surgery. They won't be full-time starters in 2013, and they probably won't be very good in 2013 either. Pavano is done. Diamond looked solid at the end of the regular season, but that's your only "can't miss" guy on the current roster. 2013 is shaping up to be a lot like 2012.
  12. Man, that list reminds me too much of our originally-projected starting rotation for last year. Baker, Pavano, and Blackburn are three more Lottery Tickets. I sure hope Ryan's crystal ball is still working.
  13. I would give Burton the same deal as Perkins got. Lock up the guys you want to keep.
  14. New team, new league, new pitchers, new manager, new role (starting SS). I think it just took him a while to learn all of the above. Plus, I think he's more comfortable when the spotlight doesn't shine so brightly on him as starting SS. He's the utility player Gardy always wanted: + infielder at multiple positions who can hit as well as a starter.
  15. LOCK. As the video shows, Deduno is very hard to hit.
  16. Most of the Twins' improvement in starting pitching next year will result from our current group of young pitchers doing better with experience. I have high hopes for Gibson -- for 2014. Next year he will be in his first year in the majors, and in his first year back after Tommy John surgery.
  17. He's gotten back in his groove over the past month. It sure took him long enough!
  18. Butera and Slama take care of the 2013 rotation needs, IMO. What? The Twins need pitching, but they also need fans in the stands. Morneau produces, and most fans notice this. I consider Morneau untradeable until Sano shows up.
  19. I really like De Vries' demeanor. He's a bulldog, like Jack Morris was. Quite the contrast to pansies like Slowey and Liriano.
  20. It was hard to get up this morning, but I had a smile on my face. Who was that unhittable pitcher wearing Duensing's uniform? And is Florimon the shortstop or a fourth outfielder? Man, that guy can cover some ground. Hitters hit, pitchers pitched, defense played good except for one bad inning. Let's have some more of thise!
  21. GM's gamble all the time. Look at the White Sox, with Peavey and Rios. Big gambles at the time, not so much now. Or look at the signing bonus given Sano. Morneau is finally hitting lefties again, which means he's back in business. If he keeps hitting like this, he's as big an asset to the Twins as Mauer or Willingham. I'd rather give Morneau big bucks than a Cliff Lee type of free agent pitcher.
  22. Morneau is too good. If his current level of performance continues for the rest of the year, the Twins should extend him. Parmalee is a good first baseman for a mediocre team -- trade him, not Morneau.
  23. Remember that Benson-to-Casilla-to-Mauer relay throw against the Yankees a couple weeks ago? Benson is The Man in CF. Willingham better start hitting, or he will end up making the club as the backup OF.
  24. If Dozier makes the starting lineup, Carroll is a true "utility guy".
