  1. That's my thinking as well but if he doesn't play every day, you know people are going to complain about it.
  2. Buxton is an interesting dilemma for the Twins. When Hicks returns, how often do you play him? The Twins are in a playoff race, after all. Buxton needs development time but the Twins need to field the best team possible.
  3. If people have trouble with a front office treating a hometown guy well with a very reasonable extension, I'm not sure what to say. Perkins is owed $6.5m per season for two more seasons with an option for a third season in 2018. I find it somewhat ironic that so many posters here want the Twins to operate in such a cutthroat manner that they'd probably quit if their own place of employment operated in a similar fashion. I just can't get too riled up about the Twins rewarding Perkins with a few extra million dollars they may or may not have spent if Perkins wasn't on the roster.
  4. Mauer can't be traded without Mauer's permission. And the 2015 Twins are not fighting for a playoff spot without Glen Perkins. Suzuki may have had a little value in 2014 but at best, he would have brought back a low minors prospect with marginal upside. Maybe a top 200 prospect and certainly nothing approaching a top 100 prospect. Doumit would have returned even less because he was a catcher only in name.
  5. I don't have a big problem with the Suzuki contract. My problem with Suzuki is that they haven't tried very hard to transition him out of a starting role. He's a fine catcher if you start him And Doumit, eh, whatever. As a 24th man, he was... Whatever. I simply did not care. He was a severely flawed backup player on a bad team. The relievers were mistakes. No argument there... Excepting Perkins. The jury is very much out on Perkins. And what about Mauer? Ryan hasn't negotiated a contract with Mauer since 2006 or so.
  6. Six of one, half dozen of the other. iOS devices aggressively cache stylesheets. Which is good most of the time because it means pages reload faster and sites are generally snappier. The problem arises when an iOS device doesn't fully load a stylesheet or the server hiccups and fails to deliver a file correctly. That's when you'll see stuff like this arise. If you see it happen, you can clear your Safari cache and that should resolve the problem... But in reality, Safari should have a "force reload" option that reloads everything on the page without cache. I've wanted to see this feature since the first iPhone but Apple doesn't offer it for some reason.
  7. Escobar has reached the rarified air of "lulz" in the month of August: .306 .375 .597 .972 fWAR now up to a pretty amazing 0.6 considering the hole he was put in with all those OF innings. His 2015 line is nothing to scoff at, either. .257 .299 .432 .731
  8. I was on board with a Drew signing and hooooooo boy, was I wrong about that. I'm with kab on the Liriano trade... Francisco was not a good pitcher and hadn't been one for quite some time. Getting anything for him was a decent move. People talk about how Ryan doesn't "sell high" and while there might be some truth to it with the Willingham situation - though I believe teams were unwilling to offer real value for him - Ryan inherited a team with Joe Mauer and a bunch of bad players. It involves some pretty sizable rewriting of history to think he had opportunities to move players for value after the Span and Revere deals. The Twins were a 63 win team for a reason... They didn't have good players on the roster. It's impossible to "sell high" when all your players are varying degrees of "bad at baseball".
  9. Win 66. Game #: 2015: 128 2014: 153 2013: 156 2012: 157 2011: n/a One more win and the 2012 and 2013 squads drop off the chart. Both teams went winless from here on out.
  10. Let's not go crazy here. The Twins' pen is acceptable.
  11. I'm just going to say what we're all thinking: That stadium is a piece of ****.
  12. I won't argue the Astros spent their money more intelligently but the Astros didn't need as many players, either. Also, you're unfairly stacking the deck. Hughes' second contract was not a free agency signing and Glen Perkins has never been a free agent. The only deal I can really look back upon and question is the Santana deal because the rotation was already getting clogged at that point. And the Hughes extension was pretty unnecessary as well.
  13. I've really wanted to see Nunez get a shot at third for awhile now. *rubs eyes* Oh, wait. No, that's not true at all. Sano. I've really wanted to see Sano get a shot a third for awhile now.
  14. Not a bad comp but Stanton is still young enough where his career arc is still very much in question. He's only three years older than Sano.
  15. And even that's not true. Here are the past two years of Houston FAs that mattered. 2015: Colby Rasmus, one year. Pat Neshek, two years. Jed Lowrie, three years. 2014: Chad Qualls, two years. Scott Feldman, three years. People have this weird misconception that Houston magically turned into a good baseball team without the use of free agency. They built from the farm, complemented with free agency.
  16. Eek, Thomas comps scare me as well. People really underrate Thomas, as he's one of the best right-handed hitters in the history of baseball, probably better than Pujols when all is said and done (thanks in part to that ridiculous .419 career OBP). Thomas had an eight (!) season run where his lowest OPS+ was 174. He peaked in 1994 with an absurd 212 OPS+.
  17. That's kinda my point. I said "rarely passed it by a significant margin". As you pointed out, Cabrera is in his 13th MLB season and has been well over .350 just three times. And Cabrera is one of the best hitters of the past 50 years. If he can't surpass .350 on a regular basis, nobody can.
  18. It's unreasonable to expect any player to post a BABIP over .350 on a regular basis. Even Miggy and the good version of Joe Mauer only danced with that number, rarely surpassing it by a significant amount.
  19. You realize what a strawman argument is, right? Because you're using one. I specifically mentioned service time in my argument. In no way, shape, or form can you reasonably translate that to "TRADE EVERYONE!!!!111eleven"
  20. Losing one year of service time in 2022 (which you can get back or extend later) and losing 6-7 years of a cheap young player are so wildly different they don't belong in the same conversation.
  21. I can't think of a very good comp for Sano based on how bloody hard he hits the ball. I refuse to buy into the Miggy comps because I don't think Sano has a .340 batting average in him. And I hate comparing anyone to the likes of Pujols because he's a freak. Then again, so is Sano.
  22. Turner is 23 years old with a .615 OPS in Chatanooga. He doesn't need to be on the 40 man for what, two more years? There are reasons to be aggressive with promotions... being reckless with them is something else entirely. Turner has no business being in a Twins uniform right now, if only for 40 man concerns (on top of his performance with the stick). If you want to add to the 40 man, you do it with guys like Berrios, who are going to force their way to the majors next season anyway.
  23. Agreed. Arm fatigue is really the only legitimate concern in my eyes. I believe service time should only be a consideration if it's early in the season or if the team is out of contention.
  24. To be clear, I'm all in favor of calling up Berrios.
