  1. You listed a bunch of starting players, Mike. I don't think anyone believes Santana is a starter. He's not competing for a position. He's competing for a bench spot.
  2. In no way was that post meant to absolve the front office of their bad decisions.
  3. Yeah. After a horrendous start, the Twins are right around .500 over their past 65 games. I think people are letting that atrocious start cloud what this team *should* have been from the outset and what they have been over the past 3-ish months.
  4. I'm far closer to your view of this trade but I think the best case scenario for the Twins is for things to play out exactly as they have for the past two years. That's not exactly an unlikely scenario. But you're spot on that any statement of equivalency of Meyer and Busenitz is... Wrong. The real player in motion here is Alex Meyer. He's the guy with legitimate upside and the ability to not only be a productive player but a dominant force in either the bullpen or rotation.
  5. NBC News wrote a depressingly hilarious article on all the things that went wrong with the Trump campaign in the 24 hour period yesterday. I was concerned Trump would pull his head out and run a straight campaign, moving to center in the process. Yeah. Egomaniacal lunatics don't do that. What (somehow) brought Trump to prominence in the primaries is going to crush him under the bright lights of a general.
  6. This is going to be a profitable game for at least three years, probably longer. It still hasn't released in a large portion of the industrialized world (including where I've been for the past week, Canada).
  7. Either intentionally or not, I think Cameron is ignoring the diminished perceived value on a contract at the deadline. Yes, teams are looking for a postseason run and will pay for it... But does anyone really believe that next July, Sale's value at 2.5 years won't closely mirror his value last week at 3.5 years? Sure, there's a risk in Sale imploding or getting injured but I believe Chris' 2017 deadline value will be nearly identical to his 2016 deadline value. Once you get past 1.5 years of control on a deadline deal, the increased value seems to stop being proportionate to length of control.
  8. It means Max has been very, very lucky with a handful of swings that ended up going out of play. It means his prodigious power is not likely to continue. But Max is young and has all the right tools to succeed. The fact he's apparently getting lucky doesn't mean he won't be a good player.
  9. Rosters expand in roughly four weeks. Rehab Plouffe for the max time, punt on making a decision.
  10. That's fair. It was such a terrible deal from top to bottom that it's hard to parse the details.
  11. Why would the Twins cut Santana? What do they have to gain from the move? Bad teams should play questionable young players with modest upside to see what they have. Compare your view of the Arcia trade and DFAing Santana. What's the difference? Why? Santana can play out the season as the 24/25 man and then a decision can be made in November. You know what you have in Plouffe; if he doesn't like sporadic playing time for the rest of the season, too damned bad.
  12. He does and that's a factor in the decision for sure. Though given the Twins penchant for slipshod bullpens in April, May, June, and sometimes even July, that's not a deal breaker. Time may tell us the smart move was to DFA Nolasco and call it a day.
  13. It was a good move by Antony but he gave up Meyer in the process. While it's likely Meyer busts, he still has that 97mph fastball and releases the ball roughly three feet from home plate. If Meyer figures it out, this is a bad trade. That's why I can't give it anything higher than a C+. But in Antony's defense, this trade could also go wonderfully for the Twins. It's a risky move in both directions. That means it *can't* be a great trade today. It's a curious trade whose ramifications we won't know for quite some time.
  14. No offense to Brandon but I think he's way off the mark. As for my own grade, I initially had B- typed and then changed it to a B. Upon further thought, I'd probably go back to the B- but that's picking nits, really. It was a decent deadline.
  15. Brandon just gave him an A-.
  16. And Tampa, being much smarter than the Twins, required Minnesota to send back a positional prospect along with that pitcher.
  17. Hey, I like what he did. But... - There are still several guys on this roster with little to no future with the team. - Getting rid of Nolasco was nice but Meyer went along with him. That's not a big win. It's a curious move, something interesting to follow. - Nunez was the best trade but even that trade wasn't out of the park. The Twins got a marginal upside guy for a guy posting pretty good numbers with 1.5 years of control. So, yeah, decent. I like what Antony did. That doesn't mean what he accomplished was amazing. I'm on board with the moves but more could have been done. In a grading scale, I'd give him a B grade, I think. Solid, not amazing.
  18. Eh, maybe Buxton... But I'm still high on Byron. The injuries are more concerning to me than anything else. But no Sano. Not even in the discussion.
  19. Yeah. It's a different argument if we're talking about moving a guy with organizational flexibility like Dozier or even Polanco. Having a backup plan in place makes it a lot easier to roll the dice.
  20. NO. Never trade young, performing position players for pitching. It will bite you in the ass far more often than it will succeed. Pitching is far too volatile. A guy can throw 97 and kill it one season and suddenly throw 93 and be awful the following season. Young pitching falls off a cliff with alarming frequency.
  21. I'm speaking from a fan perspective, not the Pohlad perspective.
  22. Yes. Antony did a decent job this deadline. I don't understand the accolades. What Antony did should be the norm, not the basis for jubilant cheer. I like all the moves. They were all fair trades of talent... But nothing stood out as amazing.
  23. Pretty much. We had the highest volume traffic in the history of the site yesterday.
  24. Yeah, we need to stop throwing that term around. Midseason rankings are a bit different and he hasn't made a preseason list recently enough to matter. But that should in no way invalidate the trade or our opinion of it. It seems like a solid deal for both teams.
