What about Bader's +10 OAA in center field last season? Or Martin's -4 in just 275 innings? That's what I don't get about this conversation. Would I have chosen Bader over literally every other option? Probably not. But it's entirely rational to choose a defense-first, legit CF when the only other CF you have on the roster is made of papier mache. People are acting like the Twins are stashing 2015 Byron Buxton in the minors due to this deal when the reality is that they literally do not have another legitimate CF that will be ready in the first two months of the season (and Rodriguez might not be a MLB CF at all). -
Not when you're treating it as a simple up/down, no. Did he beat his splits by .020 or .220? There's a big freakin' difference that matters between the two.

This is a really weird way to slice up splits. While splits numbers definitely fluctuate, giving a binary result on a single season doesn't make much sense, especially seasons like 2021 where he was .024 better against RHP.

Keston Hiura had legit reverse splits. But you're right in that it's incredibly rare.

It was 150 plate appearances with a .213 BABIP. I'm not sure how much stock to put in his 2024 splits for a couple of reasons. Unless someone can find evidence to convince me otherwise, I'm going to weight his career splits much more heavily.

Michael A Taylor basically saved this team's ass in 2023 so I don't agree with this opinion.

Look at the bolded. Read it a few times. Then let's all laugh together at the idea of the Twins NOT having half the roster injured by June 1st.

A team cannot go into a season with one centerfielder on the roster, especially if that one centerfielder snaps like a twig if someone looks at him wrong. The Twins have zero CF behind Buxton. Zero. And that's a real problem. I'll worry about Bader blocking someone when there is someone to block.

Maybe. Cross that bridge when we come to it. As of right now, he is blocking absolutely no one.

I think Paddack has surplus value at $7.5m. If he even has the smallest chance of starting 20+ games, that's a steal once you look at what some guys have been getting this offseason. Would you rather have Scherzer at $15.5m or Paddack at $7.5m? I might choose Paddack, it's close.

Getting upset about signing a competent CF backup for $6m is silly. But there is reason to be wary when it's entirely possible that $6m will come at the expense of shipping out Paddack or Vazquez.

If given a choice between Bader and Martin in the outfield, I choose Bader 147 times out of 10.

Vic Albury was born in Sanford, Florida and played with the Twins from 1973 to 1976. Albury signed with the Cleveland Indians as an amateur free agent in 1965. Albury spent several years developing his craft in the minor leagues before being traded to the Minnesota Twins in 1969. Once in the Twins organization, the left-handed Albury worked his way through the minor league system, steadily improving and demonstrating his versatility on the mound. His dedication and perseverance paid off when he earned his call-up to the majors in 1973, marking the start of his MLB career with the Minnesota Twins. Albury made his MLB debut on April 7, 1973, and quickly established himself as a reliable option for the Twins' pitching staff. Over the course of his career, he appeared in 110 games, starting 44 of them. He accumulated a career win-loss record of 18–17 and 4.11 ERA.
