I agree it's a very SSS and if Sano didn't have a history of this exact problem, I would ignore it completely. But it's a little unsettling to see a player of his capability and age striking out that often against MiLB pitchers. It could be nothing more than statistical noise in a SSS but I don't like seeing it.
That ball had no business going as far as it did based on the location, swing, and apparent ball speed. Then it decided to go 325 feet just for funsies. Baseball is a silly game sometimes.
This is certainly possible while Garver is out but I wonder how hard it will be to fit both Astudillo and Gonzalez into this roster and get proper usage from both of them after Mitch comes back to the team.
Okay, so on paper, the Twins should pretty easily take this game. At home, super-favorable pitching matchup, good offense. So that means they'll likely lose 8-2 because the team hates me.
Addison Reed in Rochester: 4.0 IP, 11 hits, 6 ER, 3 HR, 13.50 ERA *reaches for vomit bag* Just go get Kimbrel already. I'm totally off the fence on that acquisition.
Sano needs to play the field but I agree that he shouldn't (and probably won't) be playing at third every day, especially if Cruz is down for a couple of weeks. But when Cruz comes back, there's no way to get both players on the field at the same time without Sano manning third base.
That's a bit unfair to Astudillo. I am hardly his biggest fan but he appears to be a decent catcher and one that profiles to be... interesting... on offense. Any guy who strikes out 2-3 times every 100 plate appearances is going to be lively at the plate. And he won't be *bad*, but the jury is out on how *good* he could be.
I get that but Garver was more of a butcher last year than Astudillo is this year. Astudillo actually profiles as somewhere around average, maybe a touch under. Which is why I want them both studying under Castro (and the coaching staff).
Ugly. Again, for all you “why is Castro on the roster” folks, this is why you don’t give away MLB catchers. We’re literally 6-7 weeks into the season and had two catchers go down.
