  1. Arraez has shown flexibility. I agree that Schoop has been underwhelming but if you put in Arraez a couple of times a week at second, you can also get him in at third once a week and maybe the OF on occasion. Rotating two guys out of the lineup on a near-nightly basis to play Gonzalez and Arraez could have a huge impact through the second half of the season. There's no reason to dump Schoop at this point. He's good enough to not kill the team and he's not really preventing anyone else from playing.
  2. "I have too many warm bodies who are good at baseball" isn't something a MLB manager has ever said. Seriously, Mike. I know you tend to get emotional about players but the 2019 Minnesota Twins have fielded their starting nine fewer than five times and we're in the middle of July. Without checking, they may have fielded their starting nine zero times. It can't be more a few games at most. These "problems" rarely pan out to be actual problems over 162 games.
  3. If Graterol was healthy, I think that'd be close to a fair price, though the Mets may want a fourth throw-in from the low minors. With Graterol down... *shrugs* Not likely.
  4. During that stretch, Arraez played second only four times.
  5. Oh, bloody hell. Go eff yourself.
  6. Since his recall, Arraez has played 19 of 21 team games. He's not struggling for PAs.
  7. Which is why I keep him... for now. He's not a bad player, he's just in a pretty ugly streak right now (excluding the obvious homer a minute ago). If he had a .600 OPS, I'd feel differently about it.
  8. Morneau had one or two seasons he did really well against LHP before pitchers adjusted and he faded again. It will be interesting to see how Max does over the long run.
  9. Yeah, it's really fascinating. Lefties just don't hit lefties. It's nearly a universal truth in baseball.
  10. Doing something risky just because there's upside is not a good reason to potentially create a blackhole on a contending team, doubly so if there's no pressing need to do it. Besides, what is lost by keeping Schoop? Do we really care about Jake Cave that much?
  11. There is plenty of room for him because putting an out-of-nowhere prospect in a permanent starting role after 108 PAs is a good way to bite yourself in the ass for no good reason. But a platoon to see how Arraez does over the next month or more? That sounds fine to me.
  12. My patience with Schoop is wearing thin and I'm a pretty patient guy.
  13. I'm not saying the guy won't be an okay pitcher but he's not the type of guy we've seen this front office pursue. Also, his peripherals aren't good. Don't put too much stock in ERA, especially over a SSS.
  14. It doesn't matter. They're maintaining the ballpark and improving it at a level most other franchises don't even bother to think about, much less accomplish. Give credit where it's due. The team is doing a wonderful job of managing one of the better parks in baseball.
  15. One other thing that should be noted about deGrom is that the Mets are paying him like a 5+ WAR pitcher and he has met that threshold that all of once in his career. Sure, there's a chance he'll reach that mark this year but probably not by much and it's far from a given. He's not Clayton Kershaw. He's not even Chris Sale. On top of the other issues that come with looting the farm for an expensive pitcher, I don't have a ton of faith he's going to be great going forward given his age and just how much of an outlier 2018 was compared to the rest of his career. Good? Sure. Very good? Probably. Great? Eh... that's a hard one to answer.
  16. That's only because I routinely log in as users that like Chief's posts and unlike said posts. Damn it all, looks like I missed one in June.
  17. I don’t think we’ll see Allen for awhile, if ever. He has pitched all of two innings in Rochester. The front office isn’t going to put him on the 40-man for the sake of a warm body.
  18. Ugh. I just want to watch the guy play on the field for more than two months at a time.
  19. Ah ha, I missed Cron's activation. It's still slightly unusual to remove a bullpen arm and replace it with a position player.
  20. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/07/twins-designate-mike-morin-assignment-dfa.html No corresponding move, no trade appears imminent. *scratches head*
  21. That... doesn't make sense because it's not a corresponding move, it's taking two players off the roster.
  22. Huh. Didn't see that coming after the Mejia DFA.
  23. I didn't see it as a response to "you're not spending" but just another thing the team is working on regularly. Whatever you say about the Twins and Pohlads, their continual upgrade and improvement of Target Field has been top-notch.
  24. I'd honestly rather try to pry Greinke away from Arizona or pursue the other Mets starter. I'd be able to pay less in prospect capital for Greinke or pay arb years for a pitcher who's good but not deGrom good in Syndergaard. I don't think giving up that kind of prospect haul for the right to pay 20% of your payroll to a single pitcher is a viable long-term plan.
