  1. To be clear, personally I don't believe this makes the offseason a success. I'm impressed the front office went out and got Donaldson but the clear need here was pitching, and they missed. Then they missed. And they missed again. Continue for a few more refrains. But I'm very happy about this signing because, in the regular season, runs are runs. Over 162 games, he who scores the most runs wins. A lot. The Twins are poised to do that and without crazy injuries or mishaps, they should pretty easily cruise to an ALC championship. But how does Berrios align against Cole in game one of a postseason series? How does Odorizzi align against Grienke in game two of a postseason series? How does Pineda... well, you get the point. And that's the real problem, isn't it? The White Sox are improved but are unlikely to challenge for the Central this season. Cleveland is unlikely to challenge much of anything, which makes me wonder what they're doing over there, anyway. So, while attempting to lock down the ALC is a fine move, one I applaud, I have seen exactly zero movement on what I'm actually concerned about going forward.
  2. The Twins are still going to be better than the Cards without Donaldson and *much* better than the Cards with him. I'm not sure why you continue to crap on this fan forum. Do you honestly have nothing better to do? For the record, I supported you in the past but you've descended into being little more than a troll. Either right the ship or go find another place to post.
  3. This front office is supposed to be pitching-oriented. I suspect they can find someone they like who is worth the risk in acquiring. If not, pass and wait for later.
  4. LOL. That’s the BOTTOM of the lineup.
  5. Fantastic work, now go trade for a starter. If you’re going to push the accelerator down halfway, may as well floor it and see what happens.
  6. I think this front office is doing a very good job with the exception of free agents. At some point, they need to acknowledge that getting a top tier player signed is more important than value. Pay that extra $3-4m a year or tack on an extra year and just get it done. This young core isn’t going to remain young and cheap forever. Now is not the time to be sticking to a valuation spreadsheet when what the team needs is better players at key positions. In the grand scheme of things, a few million bucks barely impacts coming seasons.
  7. Really? You would turn down a guaranteed $14m in hopes you’d make $22m in a single year? Fan takes baffle me.
  8. It fascinates me (and makes me sad) that this attitude exists in a world where a man who never played professional ball took the two most beleaguered franchises in American sports and brought them each a championship. And he did it using math and a bunch of nerds in rooms with computers. Maybe the problem isn’t these new-fangled metrics but your refusal to accept their efficacy because “reasons”.
  9. For any of you who aren’t Patreon subscribers, toss G&G a buck for the Perkins interview. It’s truly outstanding.
  10. We all know Jose is betting on himself. I wonder if the team could offer a front-load, pay him maybe $16m in his FA year, and then try to get a player-friendly option tacked on, like $24m with a $5m buyout. That seems like a deal that would work for everyone.
  11. There are plenty of things happening in this world that make me truly angry and despair for mankind as a whole. Baseball ain’t one of those things. Am I frustrated? Sure, definitely. But, at the end of the day, this is intended to be entertainment, not the Nuremberg trials.
  12. That looks pretty close to me, though it may be a couple million low on year three of arb.
  13. The Twins extended an offer to Escobar but he refused because it wasn't enough. It was pretty widely reported from what I remember. Obviously, that was the correct decision for Escobar.
  14. Given how this is playing out, I don't think it's about money. I think it's about Donaldson wanting to play in Atlanta and him not wanting to accept less to play there. It's a staring contest and I think Atlanta wins because Josh just wants to play there.
  15. Pseudo, have you been drinking? Because I sure have been. Also, like 95% sure that's "past" because it can be a preposition "moving beyond".
  16. That's what I said, albeit quite poorly because you didn't understand that was my point.
  17. It definitely makes him more valuable in trade but teams don't do that for pretty obvious PR reasons, both for fans and fellow teammates. Who would sign a long-term deal with the Twins after watching someone "stick" with the team and then get traded afterward?
  18. Which could be said about literally every person to ever throw a baseball from a mound.
  19. For the record, I have far fewer issues with who they acquired and what position they play than I do the fact this team is heading toward Spring Training with a payroll well under last season after winning 101 games. There are a lot of ways to improve a team and while pitching was the most obvious route, it wasn't the only route. The most unforgivable action is to cruise into the 2020 season with a $120m payroll.
  20. Okay, so a $14m team option with a $3m buyout. Correct?
  21. Am I being obtuse or does the bolded make no sense? "Three years, $30M. Salaries totaling $27M in first three years, then a $14M club option with a $3M club option for a fourth."
  22. Yeah, I doubt they get more than one FA year of Berrios but I’d take that, especially if he allows the team to front load the extension and only pay $12-15m in that final year.
  23. If they manage to drop $20m+ on extensions to existing players this offseason, that takes some sting out of their big swings and misses at basically every free agent worth mentioning. Good signing, now do it some more.
  24. Which is why some teams seem to be pursuing “infielders”, not “second basemen” or “third basemen”. We’ve seen some odd sliding of infielders to different positions last season and this offseason and I think it’s a result of teams realizing that position matters far less than the overall skill set because a third baseman will spend time at short and a shortstop will spend time at second and way deep in the hole near third. All the infield positions, which once had somewhat unique needs, are blurring together. Teams need athletes, not specific positions.
