That's a possibility but True Detective was its own beast. It was a standalone story that took years to craft. Whereas Stranger Things is a more linear, traditional show. That doesn't mean the showrunners know where to go next (see Heroes) but it's easier to write a second season of this kind of show than starting over from scratch with a new idea.

Maybe a little but still not a certainty. Colon has been bad this season but only marginally worse than Gibson and his recent track record is a lot better than Kyle (though he's ancient so those halcyon days may be over for good). As for Santiago, I'll take a healthy Hector over a healthy Kyle if I'm trying to win this season (and probably in general, actually). They're close enough in age where it's not a factor and... Gibson has 667 IP, an 86 ERA+, a 4.39 FIP, and 6.0 K/9. Santiago has 785 IP, a 101 ERA+, a 4.85 FIP, and a 7.8 K/9.

I simply do not understand this narrative, which seems to have gained traction on the board. Gibson had a decent game against a terrible Detroit team. Before that, he had what looked to be a decent start that, in typical Gibson fashion, imploded at the end. Before that, he had a brutal game where he went 4.0 innings and gave up 7 earned runs. How is Gibson getting hot? Because if this is him hot, yeesh.

That's how I'm reading the tea leaves as well. And I'm not being snarky here but it always fascinates me how people seem to get upset every time the Twins release a mediocre player. Honestly, why does anyone really care about Haley? He was on the DL for a couple of months and was a marginal talent in the first place. If anything, I'm in favor of the Twins releasing more players of his ilk (which they've been doing more, though I wish it had started a month ago).

I'd prefer to see if Santiago can get healthy and bump Colon out of the rotation. If healthy, a rotation of Santana, Berrios, Mejia, Garcia, and Santiago should be quite competent. If one of the latter three go on anything approaching a hot streak, it might even be a good rotation. All of those pitchers are either already above average (Santana, Berrios), somewhere around average (Mejia), or have a long track record of average pitching (Garcia, Santiago).

Nonononono. Mejia has earned his spot. He has a solid ERA and strikeout rate. Mejia stays, Gibson goes. No question about it. You're better in both the short and long term that way.

Which is why I lean toward Gonsalves. He's not on the 40 man but he's pitching well in AA and is 23 years old. I don't think the Twins should care too much about burning options at this point.

If they can't get a deal done for a starter at the deadline, they need to call up either Romero or Gonsalves. Hell, that might be the right decision either way. It's not likely but it's possible that one of those guys could outperform someone like Jaime Garcia over ten-ish starts.

And it's not as if the Twins have no room in their rotation for both a healthy Santiago and another pitcher. God forbid, that might actually make their rotation passable.

Some have, but I always thought he was a decent retention. Yeah, there's risk with any mediocre pitcher who outperforms his peripherals but considering this pitching staff, his modest upside could have been useful given the other options.

It takes talent to get talent. Garcia is mediocre but Burdi is a wildcard due to injury. I wouldn't jump at the idea of giving up Burdi but it's a reasonable trade.

40 man be damned, Thorpe is still just 21. I can see the Braves questioning Burdi's medical but if I was them, I'd take Thorpe for Garcia and howl for joy immediately afterward. He's an injury concern but so are lots of guys. Right now, he's healthy, young, left-handed, and flat dealing. It's not as if Garcia is some lust object in the rotation.

Maybe, but that's being stupid-picky. I'm not one to usually overvalue prospects but I'd be immensely disappointed if the Twins let Thorpe go for a middling starter rental.

Nope, just an assumption based on watching baseball for 30 years. Established starters don't go for nothing, nor should they.

Brace yourself because the Twins are definitely giving up a top 30 prospect for an established starting pitcher. I expect something in the 10-15 range.

The Twins are in the same situation, though. They're waaaaaaay under their payroll threshold. I expect the Twins to take on most, if not all, of the salary because why not? If the Braves want to deal with someone else for a better prospect, let them do that.

This is what I'm most interested in, really. Who doesn't Falvey like? This will be an interesting test of how he views the org and wants to change it going forward. None of the players in question are "his" guys so I expect we may be surprised by the result.

I value Thorpe more highly than either Gonsalves or Romero so... yeah. Definitely agree on that one. Stewart? Eh, still too valuable but I value him quite a bit less than those three. But Stewart is approaching reasonable return area for a Garcia rental.

Which makes me think they got what they consider a good deal on Garcia.

Gonsalves and Romero. Both of which are far too valuable to give up for Jaime Garcia.
