  1. A big reason the bullpen has been so effective is *because* Baldelli hasn’t been a slave to dedicating relievers based on the inning (which doesn’t make sense when you think about it) but instead using relievers based on favorable matchup. If it’s the 8th inning and three lefties are coming up, using Romo is a good way to lose baseball games. If it’s the 9th inning and three righties are coming up, Rogers is not your best pitcher in that situation. What Baldelli is doing makes a ton of sense and the bullpen performs better because of it.
  2. Pineda is signed through 2021. It's part of the deal the team received by signing someone who was suspended.
  3. Clevenger made a ton of sense, as he's controlled beyond this season. Which is reportedly what the Twins were also pursuing, which makes sense... it just didn't work out for the Twins and I'm pretty okay with that, really. I think this offseason is going to be primed to pick up whatever your team needs on the relative cheap. There are going to be some financially-strapped teams that simply won't be playing in the market as they normally do. I hope the Twins aren't one of those teams and given their (lack of) financial commitments, I suspect they'll be players this offseason.
  4. It’s well known that I am not a fan of Blyleven the analyst but still, he was a part of the fabric of this team for my entire adult life. In many ways, he’ll be missed.
  5. On top of this being a bizarre year, tbe Twins are a team that can improve but has no glaring weakness if the roster is healthy. And, until last night, it looked like the roster was on its way to health. While there’s no predicting injury, I still feel they missed a bit by not acquiring a RH corner outfielder, even moreso now that Kepler is down. Then again, they could just call up Rooker. Please call up Rooker.
  6. Okay, this is hilarious. Well done.
  7. How Twins Daily operates as a platform is almost entirely at the discretion of the individual writers. We coordinate topics to minimize overlap but rarely step in to say “don’t write Thing X” and never say “we need someone to write Thing X” unless it’s a transactional move like a trade, promotion, or demotion. What you read on Twins Daily exists almost entirely because some individual sitting behind a computer somewhere thought to themself “I really want to write about this thing”.
  8. There are at least three articles on this site written every day that do not interest me. My point is that we write for a varied audience with different Twins-related interests. Feel free to curate our content to your tastes, just like pretty much everyone else on this site. I don't want to see writers stop writing just because that particular article doesn't interest me; it exists because it interests others so I just ignore it and move onto content I want to talk about.
  9. Whoa, dude, your basis for this raises the bar to impossible levels. You're essentially saying that we either: A. Keep plugging along every day because nothing matters B. Stop doing anything because the world isn't fixed Your logic is flawed because your threshold for raising awareness (which isn't really your call to make for another individual) is impossibly high.
  10. No, they're playing a DH tomorrow and then another DH early in September, I can't recall the specific date. The fourth, maybe?
  11. It's too much to ask because first, this isn't your site, and second, you can feel free to ignore literally every post on this or related topics. Also, in the case of the players, I don't understand why it's so hard to separate the art from the artist. I can enjoy a Mel Gibson film even if I think his past is pretty horrible. I can read an Orson Scott Card novel even if I find his politics deplorable. At any time, should I feel their views/past become too much for me to personally handle, I will cease consuming their products and move on to other things. No one is forcing you to consume this content and asking others to conform to your personal standards because their views make you uncomfortable is... well, yeah, it's just too much to ask of others. We all get to use our personal platforms for what we please; capitalism decides whether we succeed or fail while doing it.
  12. This is correct. He laid the groundwork in opposition to an argument no one is making.
  13. Fair enough. I disagree with several points here but thank you for explaining in more detail. Also, going forward, having the opinion that it is an empty gesture reads differently than declaring it an empty gesture. The statement "I believe it's an empty gesture" is different enough from "It is an empty gesture" to matter in a conversation. One conveys your opinion, the other reads as fact.
  14. NO POLITICS. Next person that brings politics into this thread gets warning points.
  15. I’m killing this line of conversation now. This has literally nothing to do with what happened last night in Detroit and is rapidly devolving into whataboutism. Move on, everyone.
  16. Awareness isn’t only about knowing something exists. It’s about people using their platforms, whether that be the dinner table or millions of Twitter followers, to say “I believe in this thing and this is why I believe in it.” Athletes across the country have been doing this in a myriad of ways for the past 48 hours. Setting parameters on how people speak out and in what form is not productive and only detracts from the conversation at hand.
  17. We keep running in circles about this but why is bringing awareness to something empty? Why is that worth nothing in your eyes and "virtue signaling"? I'd really like to hear the answer to this because this string of conversation is frustrating me quite a bit. It feels like there's a subset of posters who feel any gesture that doesn't fit within their predetermined guidelines of what it means to oppose something is deemed "worthless" and "empty".
  18. Welcome to Twins Daily, please stick around and talk Twins whenever you get the itch.
  19. I'll say this once to everyone: Stop guessing at the motivations and "true" opinions of organizations, players, and posters on this website. This thread has been a pretty good conversation thus far. Let's keep it that way.
  20. Chief didn't do anything of the sort. Read the post again. What's truly disappointing is that someone assumed players unanimously voting to support their fellow teammates is some kind of "liberal" thing. And it's disappointing you glossed over that in favor of asserting Chief had the political agenda by pointing that out. Only one person even hinted at partisanship in this decision and it wasn't Chief, yet you focused on Chief's comment instead of the partisan comment. Why?
  21. I don't think Rogers has gotten enough credit for this. It was a bold move, one many white people are often afraid to make (myself included) but it's also a necessary move. If white people hold a firm belief that there is social injustice in this world, it's important to not make our black friends and family do all the heavy lifting. Find ways to lift that burden and be the person who says "no" so they don't have to do it every time.
  22. Or even “caring about their teammates?” Many of the narratives surrounding being empathetic to those around us saddens me.
  23. For those of you wondering what some players are doing to change things, The Player's Alliance (about 100 members) have dedicated their pay from August 27-28 to the Alliance to fight injustice. https://theplayersalliance.com/
  24. The thing is, it's not "your" game. It's a collection of corporate and personal interests that provide a service that you or I, as consumers of said entertainment, can pay to support or not. And it's a package deal, as those with a vested interest can choose to use their platform for any purpose they see fit. That could mean putting their heads down and playing baseball or it could mean using their large platform to push a message important to them. Use your dollars as you see fit, but don't tell other people how to use platforms they built through hard work and dedication.
  25. Damn. Well done. So well done.
