I can see the argument behind calling Diamond a #4 but I can't get behind calling him a #5 pitcher. He has pitched too well and too consistently to be graded that low on the scale. Personally, I think he slots more as a guy who can teeter between a #3/4 depending on season because of the things Parker mentioned. He'll get roughed up and then he'll pitch a gem. It'd be nice if he missed a few more bats, though.
Agreed 100%. If they were planning to cap his innings, they should have had the foresight to shut him down throughout the season instead of at the end so he misses the playoffs. But I don't blame them for capping his innings. 160 is a lot for a guy his age returning from TJS.
There's some pressure if they send him to New Britain, going into a playoff race. Sending him to Rochester, he can just continue to work with the same plan, pitch counts, etc. Hmm, that's a good point.
Sano is just one year older than Buxton and he is mashing at 2 levels higher than Buxton, while Buxton is having a .750 OPS. Just cannot rate him higher than Sano. At this point, Sano has a couple of proven tools. Buxton is all about potential To take it a step further, Arcia should be higher than Buxton. Potential is great. Performance is better.
I think the Twins are pushing hard to have Kyle in the Minnesota rotation out of Spring Training. This move is aggressive and a little surprising. I thought NB was more likely.
I think, today, $30m would interest the Morenose familyi. Next at this time, maybe they will scoff at it. I think the Twins would be insane to offer anything close to $30m and Morneau would be insane not to take it. I was talking more in the two year, $15m range. Justin probably feels he could do better than that on the market and I'd agree with him.
Yep. It'd be nice to see someone have the courage to cross the aisle and sit down with an opposing individual and have a real conversation about how to fix the social system. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening in this political climate. Everyone is too busy drawing dividing lines in the sand so they can appeal to their base without looking "weak", as if approaching a situation and attempting to compromise with the other side in improving this country is "weak". It should be viewed as just the opposite but that's not the world we live in.
The Twins are lagging, as usual. I think Gardy has to be one of the slowest managers in MLB to post a lineup. The Twins almost always post their lineup after the opposing team.
Yeah, you're right. Far be it from me to suggest that an All-Star and current league leader in RBIs is having a worse year than last, during which he only played in 44 games. Maybe the Twins would be better off running out star players once every 4 games. I guess Buster Posey had a better year last year too. Extrapolate his stats- how was he better last year? I'll take a guy who bats around .280 and produces prolific runs all year over a guy who plays 1/4 of the year. He came back from injury and has contributed greatly to his team's success. QED Carlos Beltran played in 142 games last season and posted an OPS+ of 154, a career high.
Depending on the price, it's worth exploring. If you can get him for ~$7m a year (I don't think you can), you consider giving him another couple of years. I don't think it will happen. It's really in no one's interest to pursue that kind of contract.
Not sure if they were technically minors. I would have put their ages between 16-22. All in all, I think they were probably over 18. If not, close to it.
Well, the Twins have a need for at least two starters and probably have less than $20m (probably closer to $15m) to do it. You can either spend that money on two guys of somewhat equal talent or you can heavily favor one of those guys and give him $12-14m and then Baker a few million. That's my thinking. Baker isn't going to need to give a hometown discount. Given the pitching market this offseason, there aren't going to be many teams falling over themselves to pick him up. There are plenty of healthier options out there.
Thieves aren't terribly bright, as I recently learned. Had my iPad stolen from my house and the dumbasses didn't realize that iPads have a built-in tracking function. An hour later, I was at their house with the cops.
