  1. I don't know about "nearly always oppose their rights". There are Democrats against gay marriage, sure. Thankfully, that number is dropping (I'm sure it is in the Republican camp as well but those candidates have a tougher road to admitting it because of the GOP's policy). Either way, I don't know how that changes what you believe to be the right thing. Just because both sides have their examples of douchebaggery doesn't mean that it's suddenly okay to act that way. I'm not the one waffling on personal conviction because politicians across the aisle say stupid things. And I don't even know how I've "crossed the line" but that's not a debate to be made on the forums. If you have issues with my past moderation, PM me (or another admin) about it. Thinly veiled threats aren't going to score you points with anyone.
  2. His value is still incredibly low. There is little point in trading him right now. No team is going to give up much of anything for a recovering first baseman who is owed $14m in 2013.
  3. It sounds to me like you're making up excuses to vote "yes". Since when does "media bias" change your personal conviction? Are you that easily swayed by what others have to say that you take umbrage over the fact that a rant by a football player didn't address party affiliation? Democrats can be just as douchey as Republicans. I don't see anyone here arguing that point.
  4. You're not going to convince anyone that your point is valid if you continue to reference hits and ignore every. other. offensive. statistic. Larkin was a a fantastic defensive shortstop, a good base stealer, and a very, very good hitter. He was the premiere shortstop for several years (and very good for many more) and piled up enough counting stats to deserve entry into Cooperstown. Like I said earlier, it's damned hard to make an argument for Puckett to be in the Hall but not Larkin. Barry played in ~20% more games and sported a ~40% higher WAR. He has a ring. He has an MVP award. Multiple Gold Gloves. Multiple Silver Sluggers.
  5. While I agree that DHs should face a tougher road to get to Cooperstown, Thomas is one of the top 20 RH hitters of all time. He deserves to be enshrined in the Hall. The guy doesn't get half the love he deserves.
  6. Glad you enjoy the site. As a former California native, I know how it feels to be completely removed from your favorite baseball team. It's great to have sites like this one to find information that even local radio and television doesn't cover in any kind of meaningful fashion.
  7. Not disagreeing, but are we saying that Chicago isnt big market enough for a player to get the correct recognition?? The White Sox, not really. Move Konerko to the Cubs and he has a much better shot at getting into the Hall.
  8. Does it really matter? You get six years out of the guy no matter what. In many ways, it's better to get those six years from 24-30 than from 22-28. Most guys don't really break out until their age 24-25 seasons, with their peak coming at age 27-28. I'm not saying the Twins should keep Sano down until 2016 but if it takes a little longer to turn him into an adequate third baseman, I can wait and so should the organization.

  10. Third base, outside of catcher, is the most unique position on the field. Plouffe is a shortstop so he definitely has the range. It takes time to adjust to being ~10 feet closer to the batter at third and unsurprisingly, Trevor has struggled with his reaction time at the hot corner. It's a different world at third; you have no time to set yourself up for the ball and the position is dominated by instinct and reflex, not necessarily range. Trevor definitely has the arm to stick at the position so that's not a concern. In short, Plouffe needs more time. Third is a tough position to play and it's going to take him time to adjust. An offseason and a full Spring Training at third should help him considerably (along with healing his thumb). If he's still flailing away out there in early June, then you consider moving him off the position for good.
  11. Given the difficulty in finding third basemen in this league, I think the Twins really need to push Sano hard at third base until they are completely out of options. I don't care if it takes Sano another year to reach the majors; given the position scarcity of third base historically, it's in everyone's best interest if he finds a way to stick at third.
  12. I know it counts. Arcia is also a capable OF. You're dismissing the gap between the 2. Again, Hicks is 1.5 years older and finally put up a nice season. Arcia has destroyed every level and is so young that developing more power is a given. Hicks will be a fine player if he continues to improve and builds on this year. Arcia will be a monster if he continues to improve and builds on this year. The defensive ability of Hicks wont outweigh a 100+ difference in OPS. Personally, I rank Arcia higher than Hicks but it's close. Arcia gets the nod for being a better hitter and being younger. Hicks keeps it close by getting on base, playing centerfield, and being a threat on the basepaths. John and I have discussed why some Twins hitters fall off the radar during their stints in A/AA and then rebound later in their MiLB career. Parmelee and Plouffe did that. Hicks looks like he's doing it. We wondered if the Twins put such an emphasis on going the other way, taking good ABs, and drilling fundamentals that it takes guys awhile to adjust and then when they "get it", they break out in the upper minors. I'm starting to think that is a real possibility, which is why I think an argument can be made for both Hicks and Arcia. Some guys "get it" more quickly than others and I'm not going to hold that against Aaron Hicks now that it looks like he's coming around.
  13. JR cut bait with two very good players last season in Cuddyer and Kubel. I don't think he's going to try to sign Pavano.
  14. Who cares? Sometimes, people just need to stand up and call the douchebags out for being, well, douchebags. If we can shame just one of these bastards into shutting up, it's a small victory. If not, at least we all got a good laugh from it.
  15. Barry Larkin had a career WAR ~40% higher than Puckett. If you think Kirby should be in the Hall, it's hard to make an argument to keep Barry out.
  16. In what world is Ryan Doumit a bench player?
  17. Hes a borderline candidate but like you said, if we're going to punish the juicers, you also have to reward the guys who weren't linked to steroids.
  18. Seems to me this could only be proven if we had a voter ID law. Since when did it become the policy of small government advocates to pass laws and THEN determine whether there was a problem that needed to be fixed?

  20. Heh, it will definitely happen again... I meant "it won't happen again to the Orioles/Schowalter anytime soon".
  21. Juan Pierre, 13 seasons, 14.7 WAR. Denard Span, 5 seasons, 15.6 WAR. Denard Span is a better player than Pierre. He's a CF (Pierre stopped playing center at age 29), will take a walk, and has a career average only .011 below Pierre. The only thing Pierre did better than Span was steal bases.
  22. Arcia has all of 299 PAs in New Britain. The Twins didn't do anything wrong by keeping him in AA until the end of the season. He'll probably start the 2013 season in AAA. As for this list, I don't like it much. On the upside, the Twins look like they might have a top 10 farm system if Gibson continues to pitch well in the AFL. There's an outside chance we'll see six Twins players on top 100 lists next spring.
  23. Which prompts a Maryland Congressman to tell the Ravens to keep their employees quiet, which spurs this very NSFW letter from Chris Kluwe: http://deadspin.com/5941348/they-wont-magically-turn-you-into-a-lustful-cockmonster-chris-kluwe-explains-gay-marriage-to-the-politician-who-is-offended-by-an-nfl-player-supporting-it I laughed, I cried, I laughed some more. Mr. Kluwe deserves a slow clap for this masterpiece of a rant.

  25. That's just it. On one side, we have the small government advocates calling for more government regulation. On the other, we have the big government advocates calling for the status quo (less government regulation). It's this duality in American politics that I find maddening. Voter ID is going to fix so few problems that I just don't see any upside in doing it and I see significant downside in trying. BTW, I would have been able to vote in ONE presidential election (out of the four I've voted in thus far) because I was college age and moved around constantly during two elections (as do most people in their late teens and early 20s) and had just moved out of state for the third. It's a solution in search of a problem. Since I tend to fall on the side of smaller government, I'm going to vote "no" on every useless proposal I see on the ballot (I'd love to see my record on prop ballot measures... it must be overwhelmingly negative to the tune of 90% or more "no"). We need less stupid laws, not more.
