  2. With the Astros moving to the AL West, what are the odds that Texas will have the best record in the AL next season? 98%? 99%? Adding an awful Houston team to the AL is going to skew results for a year or two.
  3. I pointed out that the Sox and Tigers are competing with pretty mediocre overall stats. Offensively, the Twins are in the thick of things with other AL Central teams. Their pitching staff has been a complete letdown and is at fault for their 4th/5th place finish. Do you really think the Sox and Tigers are going to get significantly better next season? Neither one has much in the minors and IIRC, neither will have much money to spend, either. Injuries can't be predicted but on paper, the Twins can easily compete if they shore up the rotation. It's a tough thing to do but if it's possible, there is no reason the Twins can't compete in 2013.
  4. No I don't think the Twins would contend for the division with a league average pitching staff. The Sox and Tigers are doing just that... Pitching ERA: Tigers 4th, Sox 9th, Twins 13th. Hitting... Runs Scored: Sox 5th, Twins 6th, Tigers 8th. And it's not as if the Sox and Tigers are going to get any better next season. Neither one has a young roster, much of a farm, or money left to spend.

  6. And they still beat out the Vikings and Wild.
  7. Maybe next offseason. Certainly not now.
  8. Are we really complaining about how the Twins advance hitting prospects? This organization has been churning out very good hitting prospects for over ten years now. Mauer, Morneau, Cuddyer, Kubel, Span, Revere, Parmelee... In the wings, they have Arcia, Hicks, Rosario, Sano, and Buxton. Hitting isn't the problem and I don't think we should be complaining about how the Twins advance their position prospects. They've done a very good job of preparing these guys for Major League pitching.
  9. Yeah, I think there's a zero chance of the Twins trading away a young pitcher. No real point in even discussing it.
  10. And Gibson.
  11. Legends Club, no doubt about it.
  12. If I forgot how to do my job every 6-8 weeks, I certainly wouldn't have the chutzpah to blame my boss for it. I'd expect to be fired for gross incompetence.
  13. More, this time from Cooper. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2012/08/01/cooper-goal-is-to-minimize-lirianos-inconsistencies/ Whaddya know, Don Cooper isn't some hillbilly who's oblivious to new-fangled things like "pitchin' dee-liveries".
  14. More. http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/news/print.jsp?ymd=20120526&content_id=32264006&notebook_id=32264120&vkey=notebook_min&c_id=min
  15. Can we end this now? http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-05-12/news/sns-rt-bbo-twins-team-reportsxa66e6a1-20120512_1_minnesota-twins-target-field-major-league It's absolutely insane to think that the Twins had Liriano for a half dozen years and never bothered to check out if there was a difference in his delivery that changed his success rate against major league hitters. I don't even know how to debate that point. It's ludicrous.
  16. A better comparison would be, if your fielder can't make the throw to first base, to coach him more specifically than merely repeating, "make the throw to first base," and instead explain where in his throw he is going wrong, and find a way to correct it. Do you honestly believe that hasn't been tried? These teams have all the footage they could want and a desire to make themselves better. The pitching coaches aren't just slapping Liriano on the ass and telling him "Go get 'em, tiger". Liriano has surely had every aspect of his game dissected by both the Minnesota and Chicago coaching staffs. At some point, you need to start blaming the guy who is throwing the baseball. A coaching staff can only do so much.
  17. Are you saying he is uncoachable? I'm saying that when multiple coaches tell a player to do something and that player doesn't do what they ask, it's on the player. I'm sure that Liriano has been coached on plenty of things over the years and has been exposed to hours of film from his various seasons. If he doesn't turn it around, that's on him. A coach can't go out to the mound and throw the ball for him.
  18. Twins: Ben Revere CF Alexi Casilla 2B Joe Mauer C Justin Morneau 1B Josh Willingham DH Ryan Doumit LF Trevor Plouffe 3B Matt Carson RF Pedro Florimon SS (Sam Deduno P) Indians: Shin-Soo Choo RF Michael Brantley CF Carlos Santana DH Russ Canzler LF Casey Kotchman 1B Lonnie Chisenhall 3B Cord Phelps 2B Brent Lillibridge SS Lou Marson C (Justin Masterson P)
  19. I have no idea what that even means. I'm pretty sure Kluwe knows what the First Amendment means. He wasn't saying that the Ravens (the employer) couldn't tell Brendon to be quiet, he said that it was inappropriate for an elected official to tell a citizen to sit down and shut up just because he's a football player. There's a significant difference between those two things. And I think Minnesota is going to vote this amendment down. The polls are showing a significant reversal on gay marriage in the past year. And I love the "throws it in peoples' faces" line. As if the Religious Right isn't "throwing it in peoples' faces" by making gay marriage Double Secret Illegal in Minnesota or by routinely telling gay people that they're abominations and that they're going to hell. Nope, that's not inflammatory at all.
  20. I'm wondering when you're going to stop blaming multiple pitching coaches and start blaming Francisco Liriano.
  21. Don't worry about it too much, just try to tone it down in future posts. It's a fine line to cross but we try to make sure that public personalities don't have too many insults leveled at this in this forum. I know I've been guilty of it in the past so it's something I have to work on as well.
  22. The fact that the black vote heavily favors bans on gay marriage saddens me to no end. It's so hypocritical that I sit there in stunned silence every time I see an example of it. I don't know how to describe it beyond that.
  23. Chris Kluwe is freaking HILARIOUS. Big thumbs up to this follow-up post about his letter: http://blogs.twincities.com/outofbounds/2012/09/08/out-of-bounds-blog-no-8-inquisitive-kitten-pawing-at-yarn/
  24. The rules of TD clearly state that no personal insults are to be leveled at Twins players, the front office, or journalists. There are multiple instances of it in this thread. The next ones to do it will be facing a 3 day ban.
  25. Cole De Vries is the type of back-of-the-rotation filler that teams can live and die by over the course of a season. He's basically the New Nick Blackburn. You ride him until the league catches up and then you shuffle him out of the rotation. If that never happens, great. You have a quality #4/5 pitcher on the cheap for several years. But you never, ever sign that kind of guy to a multi-year deal.
