  1. Sure, Butera is crushed by wRC+, but where does he rank on wAC+?* *winning attitude created
  2. If I was to create a list of Twins questions in 2013, it would look like this: 1. The starting rotation. Who will step up? 2. The starting rotation. Who will step up? Also, middle infield. 3. The starting rotation. Who will step up? Also, centerfield. 4. The starting rotation? For the love of God, who will step up?
  3. Yes. It was lower than the OBP he had posted in previous years. I can't recall the exact number but it was comically low.
  4. Ell Oh Ell. People forget just how awful the back end of the 2012 was for most of the season. I mean, it was historically awful. It will require another complete collapse of the entire rotation to repeat those numbers in 2013. Of course, this rotation also has to offset the loss of Revere and Span, which is no small order (unless Parmelee comes out raking and Morneau returns to form, which basically offsets the loss).
  5. I was going to say the same thing.
  6. This. Morneau flailed away at lefties early in the season and gradually started returning to respectability as the season progressed. I don't worry much about his ability to hit lefties, only whether he can stay healthy and avoid wrist and concussion issues in 2013.
  7. You're talking to a bunch of people who post on a Twins site after back-to-back 90+ loss seasons. I don't think "bandwagon fan" is even in the conversation.
  8. 1. Not All Star but good. He should improve on 2012. 2. Nobody should care about the ****ing closer on a 70 win team. 3. I think Plouffe will put together a solid but streaky season. .775-ish OPS and much improved defense. 4. I think Worley will be their best pitcher, which says all you need to know about the Twins rotation.
  9. Signing Saunders gives the Twins three guys who have shown the ability to be league average or better. Chances are that he won't be pushing Gibson or Hendriks out of the rotation, he'll be pushing out Correia, Pelfrey, or Harden. And that's a good thing. Besides, Gibson can't pitch anything close to a full season anyway.
  10. Right now, C if they stand pat. B- if they pick up Saunders.
  11. It says a lot about the free agent acquisitions this offseason that I'd rejoice if the Twins landed Saunders. Jesus, I need a drink.
  12. You would have had a legendary career as a musician on the Titanic.
  13. No, it's not and there are mountains of statistics that show it.
  14. There is actually evidence... Evidence that the Twins will not spend more or less in following seasons based on the surplus/deficit of earlier seasons. They've said it themselves.
  15. You'll be hard-pressed to find anyone around here complaining about how JR has handled the minor league system since his return. On the other hand, there's another facet to a MLB franchise... The one that actually takes the field here in Minnesota. Nobody here is saying that the Twins need to start trading off minor leaguers to fill these holes. Nobody here is saying that the front office should sacrifice the future by trading for today (in fact, there are calls for the exact opposite). We're saying that the team should spend some of the money given to them when taxpayers financed Target Field. It's not an unreasonable request. Hell, it should be an expectation. The people of Minnesota threw hundreds of millions of dollars at the Twins to make them competitive in the modern market. Asking the Twins to hold up their side of the bargain by spending a very reasonable amount of money to acquire free agents so we don't have to suffer another 65 win season has nothing to do with faith in the future and has everything to do with expecting the team to give back something in return for the enormous gift given them by the taxpayers of Minnesota.
  16. Going into 2012, I would have been happy with 20 dingers from Willingham. I won't be terribly disappointed if he falls back to that level in 2013 and nobody else should be, either. The guy is making $7m a year and considering that the Twins got around $15m of production from him last season, the contract has nearly paid for itself already.
  17. What's his excuse for not going after Marcum right now? It's hard to claim that the market has been bullish on Marcum.
  18. Different skillset but short is a harder position to play by a considerable margin. If Plouffe has the range to play short, he can play third. His arm isn't an issue (only its accuracy). He had all the tools to play shortstop for most of his career. Sano didn't make it out of the low minors at the position. The Twins didn't move Sano away from short for fear of injury. That's ludicrous; a shortstop that hits like Sano is a once-in-a-generation player. They moved him because every scout on the planet says he can't play the position. Many of those same scouts believe he can't even play third. By any measure, Plouffe was the better defender from the moment he was drafted until today. The two shouldn't be compared.
  19. Yeah it can. Plouffe stuck at short through his entire minor league career and played some short in Minnesota. Sano couldn't stick at short in the low minors.
  20. Actually, I thought Johhny's joke was pretty damned funny. On topic, I'd go watch a minor league game at TF in a heartbeat, particularly because the major league team is so awful.
  21. I'm of the opinion that the Twins should be in no rush to get Sano here at the expense of moving him to first base. At third, he's much more valuable and if it takes an extra season to find out that he just can't hack it there, so be it. Finding first basemen is easy. Finding third basemen is extremely difficult.
  22. We're offering a few bucks off pre-orders for this design (which will ship in about two weeks). Take a look and if you like it, snatch one up before the price goes up. Legends | DiamondCentric Apparel
  23. And Joe will simply take more walks. If anything, that will improve everything except his counting stats (ie. the stuff that matters when evaluating a hitter).
  24. Sigh... I'm not terribly surprised to read this but it's still disappointing. If the Twins are in rebuilding mode, just blow it up and give it the proper treatment. Put Morneau and Willingham on the block and be done with it. I'm not against shying away from the FA market and slashing payroll with the clear message "we're building for 2015" but riding the fence is unacceptable. You either try to win or you blow up the roster. There's no point in trying to play both sides. It rarely (almost never) works.
