  1. I heard the Twins invested heavily in cardboard stand-ups of movie actors and those are expected to receive the majority of pitcher ABs in 2013.
  2. Now now, Chief. If the Twins picked up too many starters, here are a few of the players who might be blocked. 1. Kyle Gibson 2. Liam Hendriks 3. Kyle Gibson throwing left-handed 4. Drew Butera 5. ??? 6. Profit?
  3. Have no fear, the Twins have their Best Men on the job.
  4. Which is really silly. The NL manages to play most of its games without a reliever seeing an AB and they do it with a 25 man roster. Chances are, your catcher won't be hurt in the first inning and you'll only have to cover a couple of pitcher ABs with your bench.
  5. Two years to Correia. One year to Marcum. One year to Saunders. These aren't complaints about "pet signings". There were over a dozen guys on the market better than Correia. The Twins didn't get a single one of them and then gave Correia an extra year.
  6. Better players generally help teams win more games. Teams that win more games generally stay in contention longer. Staying in contention longer generally increases fan attendance. With a few lucky breaks and a couple more good players, the Twins would have an outside shot at contention in 2013. Except they didn't find a couple more good players, which means that they have to roll sixes ten times straight to contend this season.
  7. There should be zero hesitation to use a catcher at the DH spot. ZERO. Worst case scenario, you lose the DH for nine innings if/when your starting catcher gets injured. I just can't wrap my head around why this is a problem. If you pinch-hit for a catcher or pinch-hit using a catcher, that guy is out of the game for good which can put you in a bind if you run out of catchers. But if you DH a catcher, all you risk is losing the DH for part of a game. It should be a non-issue.
  8. How long you gonna keep banging that drum?
  9. I've been saying this for awhile. It took ten years to build up the goodwill this team has with fans and now they're pissing it away. But there's no changing it now. They made their bed.
  10. I come down hard on Butera but I also can't really argue with this post. Butera's ability to hurt the team with his anemic offense is extremely limited. I'd rather see the team carry two catchers than trot Butera out there once a week but given the state of the team, it's way down my list of priorities. I view the retention of Butera as something that is indicative of how this franchise is run and that's where my problem really lays... Not so much with Butera himself, though I often rage at the guy whenever I see that horrible, awful stat line. If the rest of the team was headed in the right direction (they picked up a decent starter, made ANY attempt to shore up the middle infield), I wouldn't care about Butera but in a world where the key free agent pickup was Correia, it just compounds the problem with the Minnesota roster in my eyes.
  11. In 2013, that's Chrome. Every web dev I know starts building for Chrome and then checks compatibility with IE/FF afterward. You're probably working with older software that hasn't been updated for awhile. There isn't a good reason for software not to run on Chrome nowadays, really.
  12. Okay, thanks. It looks like we're going to end up transitioning to an entirely new server some time in the next few weeks. I'm hoping that cures this problem for good.
  13. Like the previous mention, I'm hoping that is a feature of the new board software we're going to implement some time in 2013. It REALLY bugs me that comments don't carry over from blog to article but given how the software is built, it would require massive customization to change.
  14. Google's entire corporate mission is to use you, your preferences, and your habits and turn you into an ad revenue generating machine for the company. From Android to Google Docs to Gmail to Search, this is their sole mission. That doesn't really bother me. The better ads are targeted to me, the less I will be annoyed by them. But I can see how that strategy bothers other people.
  15. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to implement such a thing. The way quotes are embedded are not using the database; they are part of the post. That means the site does not track quoting of posts, meaning that the ignore feature cannot track quotes.
  16. Pelfrey and Worley are my 1a and 1b. Even though Opening Day starter doesn't matter one bit, Gardenhire should be fired on principle if he rolls Correia out there.
  17. wonder how they're accruing those stats. Baker made zero starts and Pavano made 11.
  18. It's possible but it's going to require a lot of health and a little luck, something they had last season (apart from Martinez) but still only managed 88 wins. I think people are forgetting just how injury-free Detroit was last season. From Wikipedia: [h=3]Key injuries[/h] On December 16, the team announced that relief pitcher Al Alburquerque had surgery on his pitching elbow, to replace a stress fracture.[10] On January 17, it was reported that designated hitter/catcher/infielder Víctor Martínez tore his ACL and needs surgery to repair it.[11] On March 12, the team placed Martinez on the 60-day disabled list and declared him out for the season.[12]
  19. Like Smerf, I'd rather see Hicks get a few reps at AAA. There's no reason to spend that year of control on what is probably a lost season. Plus, it wouldn't kill the team to see what they have in Benson. He's far less of a sure thing prospect-wise. Even Mastro could hold down CF for a month.
  20. I think they should target that hard-throwing high schooler whose season hasn't started yet.
  21. In my never-ending quest to drive myself insane trouble-shooting this problem, can someone verify if they see it today? I changed a few settings and swapped some code but since I can't get the awful, horrible, stupid problem to replicate on my end, I never know if anything I do works or not.
  22. I fall in this camp as well. I don't know if Plouffe will trend up but I think he can hold his 2012 OPS steady, get 600 PAs, and improve defensively. I'll take .760-780 OPS from the third baseman all day. Parmelee is a bit more of a question mark but at the minimum, I think he can be serviceable. Dozier, I have no idea. Overall, I think the offense will be acceptable with a small chance to be pretty good (maybe #5-7 in the AL if most things fall the Twins' way).
  23. There will always be small advantages to one or the other. Most never convert to PDF. On the other hand, I use Chrome's Inspect Element all day, every day to look at page code. Firefox requires a plug-in that isn't nearly as good as what Chrome has out of the box. It's important to me but 99% of people don't care.
  24. He hasn't started a completely unnecessary and worthless war that cost us billions and killed thousands of Americans. Obama has that going for him.
  25. Two and a half hitting coaches is more like it.
