  1. Seriously? There's a game tonight? Double-U. Tee. Eff. Sorry guys.
  2. Your point has merit. On the other hand, almost any mention of RBI on this forum will garner some rebuttals (as it should). Morneau has been quite good lately. It's a matter of seeing if he can keep it up, with or without the power.
  3. If you only do a cursory glance at their numbers, yes, Pelfrey has looked "better" (still awful). But dig into the numbers a bit more and a different story is told. Worley BABIP: .401 (incredibly unlucky) Pelfrey BABIP: .368 (very unlucky but looks like a lottery winner compared to Worley) Worley HR/FB: 15.5% (LOL, ouch) Pelfrey HR/BB: 6.8% (absurdly low and will only trend upward) Worley GB: 47.1% Pelfrey GB: 40.1% (given that he only puts the ball on the ground four of ten times, expect many balls to start leaving the park) All of that translates to... Worley xFIP: 4.83 Pelfrey xFIP: 5.33 Worley has pitched very badly this season. Pelfrey has pitched worse, only he's slightly luckier than Worley. Nothing about watching Mike Pelfrey makes me think he's going to succeed this season. It was a good gamble but it was just that... a gamble. He shouldn't continue to get playing time if he continues putting up horrendous numbers while also magically avoiding home runs (something a pitcher has very little control over). I'm not against the Worley demotion because he's pitching like crap, as evidenced by his mid-20s LD%. But he's not pitching worse than Pelfrey and Mike doesn't deserve a roster spot over Vance, particularly if he figures it out in Rochester. If Hendriks was healthy, I'd be all in favor of kicking Pelfrey to the curb and giving Liam the rest of the season to prove his mettle.
  4. So you're saying "shotgun a beer, pat 'em on the ass, and yell 'Go get 'em, tiger!" isn't a solid pre-game routine?
  5. The trade still looks good. Revere has been just as bad for Philly and May is stumbling a bit at AA but still has potential to turn it around. Right now, the trade was two teams trading a bunch of mediocre-to-bad players, only the Twins got two of them and only gave away one.
  6. Eh, I still think his ceiling is a decent #3. League average to slightly above league average for several years. But to figure out how to make that happen, he needs to figure out how to miss a few more bats in the AL.
  7. That's a system thing. It only "acknowledges" the posts that were creating in the thread it generated for that specific article. Anything before the merge will be ignored by the system... Kind of a dumb flaw but one that would be extremely irritating to fix and would require re-coding core components (a good idea to avoid whenever possible).
  8. If the team is willing to demote Worley, they damned well better be ready to send Pelfrey packing as well.
  9. It's increasingly difficult to be positive about Rick Anderson. Sure, he doesn't have much in the way of talent to coach but what little talent he does have hasn't exactly thrived over the past three seasons.
  10. It seems to me that your attitude argument was rendered invalid by how Worley actually took the demotion. Your argument was structured around Worley's own accountability for his performances, which he readily admitted "earned" him this demotion. So his vague comments about weight were bad, his early season "I just didn't get my pitches" comments were bad, but his "I'm not pitching well" comment does not count.
  11. Challenge him by sending him to New Britain. You don't throw him to the wolves in MLB straight from A+ ball. He'd be annihilated. Look at Arcia. He's doing well, not great, and he has absolutely crushed every level he's been promoted to, including AAA.
  12. Nobody goes from A+ to the Majors. The real question is whether Sano should be at AA right now. I'm pretty "meh" on the topic. If they think he can stick at third, he could probably use the seasoning. On the other hand, he could also continue learning how to field in New Britain. I haven't seen enough real evidence (or actual game footage) to know much of anything.
  13. What on earth makes anyone think that Walters is going to be a better pitcher than Worley? The guy is three years older than Worley, has a very pedestrian minor league track record, and has a pretty spotty track record (mostly bad) in limited MLB innings. Worley is the only guy in the rotation who should have a lengthy leash at this point (along with Diamond, obviously). Yes, he's been bad. But he's still only 25 and has a pretty good MLB track record and he's getting completely hosed in the luck department this season. Replacing him with Walters solves nothing in the long-term and probably solves nothing in the short-term, to boot. It's the kind of "win 70 games NOW" move that the Twins shouldn't even consider in 2013.
  14. Initially, I was dead-set against this move but if Appel & Co are off the board at #4 and Manaea is the "best" option remaining (the more I read on this kid, the more I'm not a fan), moving down might not be the worst thing in the world. But if they do this while one of the top three are still on the board, I'll go absolutely crazy.
  15. Lineups: Twins: Eduardo Escobar 3B Pedro Florimon SS Josh Willingham LF Justin Morneau 1B Ryan Doumit C Chris Colabello RF Aaron Hicks CF Brian Dozier 2B (Vance Worley P) Braves: Jordan Schafer LF Ramiro Pena SS Jason Heyward RF Freddie Freeman 1B Evan Gattis C Chris Johnson 3B Dan Uggla 2B B.J. Upton CF (Paul Maholm P)
  16. He's little better than the rest of 'em but he had a strong start to the season so I don't expect to see him pushed out of the rotation any time soon.
  17. I completely agree. It's going to be a lot easier to show Pelfrey/Correia the door (likely Pelfrey) if Gibson is the one coming up. Deduno, not so much.
  18. At this point, almost anything is better than watching Pelfrey and Hernandez pitch batting practice (Worley is little better but I still hold out hope for him once his peripherals normalize).
  19. I don't think it will poison anything with Gibson. I'm sure he has been told that he will be promoted in 2013 and that when he shows a bit more consistency from start to start, he'll be in Minnesota.
  20. Sigh. You do realize that you're propping up a strawman here, right? Just as the "gardy haters" are often irrational in their hatred of the man, you come off as the polar opposite in this post, which is just as wrong as unconditionally hating the guy. As usual, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. There are legitimate reasons to like Gardenhire and there are legitimate reasons to dislike the man (as a baseball manager). Where you fall on that spectrum is the rub. Do his faults outweigh his strengths?
  21. It's understandable that a generation gap forms as a manager ages... but when your job primarily involves dealing with "employees" under the age of 30, you just have to adjust your expectations and interactions with said players. And it seems to me that Gardy has been doing a pretty bad job of it lately.
  22. I didn't say they'd be good, only better than they are now. Which isn't hard when you have multiple starters throwing 6+ ERA ball.
  23. I admit that my draft research has been very limited due to my schedule lately but isn't Manaea throwing 4-5 mph slower than he was last year? Why are so many people still high on him?
  24. Not if I punch you first.
