  1. Is a .700 OPS over the past month not good enough for you? How is that "awful"? That's league average.
  2. I'll need someone to post the lineups today, as I'll be on the road and probably in a cell dead zone.
  3. You burnt down the ****ing banana stand? I said THERE'S ALWAYS MONEY IN THE BANANA STAND.
  4. But after seeing middling success with Plouffe and the homerun power of Willingham, are they still promoting this "go oppo" strategy with every hitter on the roster? It's possible that they're still steadfastly pounding that idea into hitters' heads but I'm not entirely convinced that's the case anymore.
  5. And he'll never figure it out without some patience on everyone's part. I was against the Hicks promotion in the first place. But now that he's here and starting to produce, you let the kid flail away until he stops producing. You don't turn him into a human ping-pong ball with promotions and demotions. You stand by your original decision until he forces your hand with bad play for an extended period of time, something he hasn't done since his first three weeks in April.
  6. That's a pretty awful way to run a business. "Hey, I'm not sure if Employee X is doing a bad job or not." "Well, the only thing to do is replace him and see how it works out. What's the worst that could happen?" "We could get someone worse. We don't know." "Go ahead, do it anyway. Come on, it'll be fun." Twins fans, trying to run a multi-billion dollar franchise like a lemonade stand since 1961.
  7. I think there's some merit to complaints about the Twins' philosophy of "going the other way". On the other hand, I think many of those complaints are outdated, especially in the case of Ortiz. He left the team a decade ago and we've seen management changes at every level of the system. On the third hand(?), if Gomez only broke out because he left the Twins, why'd it take him over two seasons to turn into a decent hitter and three seasons to turn into an above-average hitter? Methinks it has a lot more to do physical maturation and how Gomez was rushed by the Mets and later, the Twins, than it does any failing in the Twins' approach (which absolutely has its flaws, I just think this is a pretty bad example). In my opinion, it all boils down to JJ Hardy.
  8. Over the past 28 days, he has posted an OPS of .700. Last night, he hit a homer and a double off RHP. That earns him the right to keep flailing away at MLB pitchers for another two weeks. It's not as if the Twins have anyone better to take his spot in the lineup. As long as Aaron is producing at somewhere near a league-average rate, he deserves to be with the team, splits be damned.
  9. Coomer's real strength lies in recreating plays in the OF pre- and post-game.
  10. More than anything, I think Aaron Hicks needs to be left alone for awhile. Just let him take his hacks against MLB pitching. Last night, he had a good game. If he falters for two weeks, reconsider moving him back to Rochester. If he keeps hitting (OPS now at .700 in May), then let him keep hitting. Once he has stabilized a bit, then you consider jockeying him around the lineup.
  11. This. It's a lot easier to teach a guy to start swinging than to stop.
  12. I began to realize what was happening early in the show when someone was kicking Lindsey's seat on the plane (episode 3? 4?). At that point, I started to figure out that they're taking the same scenes and splicing them into later episodes (something the show did a fair amount in seasons 1-3). "Anustart" was another big clue. But before that point, I was seriously ****ing confused about why they weren't featuring about half the characters. I'm nine episodes in now, I think. I'm taking my time so that I can soak it in because after this, we ain't gettin' no more episodes of Arrested Development... Ever.
  13. You're forgetting that most of Michigan has neither TV nor radios. Except for this guy.
  14. My point is that he adjusted to AA pitching and managed to hit righties. There's absolutely no reason to write him off after 150 MLB at-bats. Honestly, this thread kinda makes me want to smash my face into the desk. I expect a little more in the way of patience from the TD crowd. Guess what? Justin Morneau was pretty awful early in his career. So was Michael Cuddyer. Aaaaaand Jason Kubel. None of them were as bad as Hicks but they all had some pretty ugly stretches of play before figuring it out. This isn't aimed at you, Willinghammer... Just the thread in general. I expect RubeChat posters to rail on players for struggling in their first 100 PAs (in between smashing beercans on their heads and yelling about football season). I expect better from Twins Daily posters, who should know that often, rookies look really bad for the first few months of their career. Sometimes, they even look bad for an entire season. In the case of Cuddyer, he was jerked around and looked pretty bad for parts of three seasons.
  15. That's all great, except for one thing: It's May 28th. A month ago, Hicks was OPSing at what, .400? .300?
  16. Aaron Hicks has a .737 OPS over the past seven days and a .651 OPS over the past 28 days. He's up and down, just like most rookies. No one in their right mind expected him to be Mike Trout out of the gate. His overall season OPS is .510 and continues to trend upward. Yeah, he sucks against righties. That was expected, really. He's had career issues against RHP. He also made the jump from AA straight to the Majors. In short, making any broad-sweeping statements about Aaron Hicks is premature. He looked bad, now he looks better. He could be average, he could easily be an .800 OPS player as soon as next season. I haven't seen a single reason to change my opinion on him as a player.
  17. In my opinion, there is one scene with Henry Winkler, Scott Baio, and Ron Howard narrating that easily bests any Bob Loblaw scene to date. It completely struck me by surprise with how suddenly it evolved into three different jokes. Beautiful. I think it's around ep 4-5 in the new season.
  18. Some old jokes are brought back, some are expanded upon, and some are all new. Club And is ****ing hilarious. So many clever little jabs, just like the old Arrested Development. And the Happy Days/Bob Loblaw Law Bomb scene is so many levels of meta it makes your head spin. People online are bitching and moaning about the new episodes but it seems that some of them are missing the point... This is EXACTLY like the old AD, people just haven't had five years to digest the multiple layers of the show. I understand some complaints about the episode structure but it hasn't been that annoying to me.
  19. Lineups: Twins: Jamey Carroll 3B Brian Dozier 2B Joe Mauer C Josh Willingham LF Justin Morneau 1B Ryan Doumit RF Aaron Hicks CF Pedro Florimon SS (Scott Diamond P) Brewers: Norichika Aoki RF Jean Segura SS Ryan Braun LF Aramis Ramirez 3B Carlos Gomez CF Jonathan Lucroy C Rickie Weeks 2B Yuniesky Betancourt 1B (Michael Fiers P)
  20. It might have something to do with 18 months of awful play by Benson and an extremely good 2012 from Hicks, who is also 2-3 years younger than Benson. Comparing the players by their MLB numbers is intentionally ignoring 1+ seasons of awful play by Benson and is a pointless comparison.
  21. I'm surprised that no one is talking about it. So far, I'm seven episodes into the new season and it's really starting to roll. The first 3-4 episodes were good, not great, but once Tobias and GOB entered the picture, it was full speed ahead. The best part of the new season is that they're not relying only on old jokes. Anustart.
  22. I'm in the "meh" camp for two reasons: 1. Benson hasn't been productive anywhere in nearly two years. 2. At the end of the season, he's out of options, meaning the Twins needed to make a decision relatively soon anyway. With that said, I would have absolutely released a Drew Butera (or fill in one of 3-4 other names here) before Benson (I think everyone on the forum should be well aware of my thoughts on Butera at this point). I'm "meh" because, in the end, I don't think it's going to matter one bit.
