David Charles Johnson was born on October 4, 1948 in Abilene, Texas.

The Baltimore Orioles drafted him in round five of the 1967 MLB Draft. He made his Major League debut for them in 1974. Johnson made 17 appearances out of the Orioles bullpen over parts of two seasons. He spent 1976 in a few different minor league system. The Minnesota Twins acquired him ahead of the 1977 campaign.

Johnson pitched a career high 30 games for the Twins in 1977, including six starts. He was 2-5 with a 4.58 ERA. His first win came by tossing four shutout innings during an extra inning win over the Kansas City Royals. Johnson pitched six games for Minnesota in 1978, going 0-2 with a 7.50 ERA. That was his final season in professional baseball.

David Charles Johnson (born October 4, 1948) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played all or part of four seasons in Major League Baseball between 1974 and 1978 for the Baltimore Orioles and Minnesota Twins. Though Johnson was the very first player acquired by the Seattle Mariners (purchased from the Orioles prior to the 1976 Major League Baseball expansion draft), and had a 1977 Topps baseball card that showed him as a Mariner, Johnson did not make the team out of spring training. He was sold to Minnesota in May, and spent the 1977 and 1978 seasons with the Twins.
