Florimon was selected off of waivers from Baltimore over the winter, where he was ranked the 29th best prospect in the Orioles system bt Baseball America at the time. He got his September call up after going .267/.344/.396 for the Orioles AA affiliate where he played SS (except for 1 game at 2B and 1 game at CF).

 

Florimon is off to a good start at AA New Britain this year. In 74 PA, he is hitting .313/.380/.438 with 2 2B and 2 HR. He also has a 1.000 Fielding %. Hopefully, he can keep up that kind of production and provide some much needed depth in the middle infield.

Florimon is now up to 100 PA (87 AB). He is currently has a line .287/.361/.391. He has added one double over the last week, but no more HR's. He sitting at 25 hits.

 

He did have a multi-hit game (2 singles) in last night's long win (1-0) over Harrisburg, where he scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the top of the 12th inning.

 

He also committed his first error of the season, dropping his fielding % down to a still respectable .992.

 

Florimonster (I'm hoping that name catches on) is also 5 for 6 in stolen base attempts. So far, he is holding his own in the AA level.

I think Florimon would be a candidate for promotion if he were on the 40-man roster. He has the skills to handle both SS and 2B, the speed to be a pinch runner and at least a chance to get a hit. Here's hoping he gets moved up to Rochester soon and gets a chance by September to help the big club.

You're right that he probably could handle 2B as well, but he does not have much experience playing there. He has only played two games at 2B during his entire professional career. One game in 2011 and one in 2008. He has played exclusively at SS for New Britain. I have seen write ups of Florimon that say he projects as a utility player. If that is the case, and that is how the Twins plan on using him, I would expect that you would start seeing him play some 2B here shortly.

Florimon played second almost exclusively in ST. It is almost comical to see him standing next to Alexi and Carroll because he is so much taller.

In his 7th professional season and at the age of 25, Pedro Florimon will head to AAA for the first time in his career. The Twins announced today that he is heading to Rochester to take Brian Dozier's old spot at SS.

 

He has a line of .283/.347/.372 with 4 2B, 2 HR, 8 RBI and 7 SB for New Britain.

After one full week of AAA baseball, Pedro Florimon is hitting .290/.313/.484, with 2 HRs. He also has 3 SB.

If Florimon keeps hitting, he could really be a prospect. He's got speed, a good glove, and enough power to at least keep outfields honest. I have thought for a long time that this was a good get for the Twins. If he continues to hit, I think Florimon will see time with the Twins this year.

He is hitting .279/.313/.426. He has added 1 triple since the last update as well.

 

His fielding statistics are good as well. 63 chances, with only 1 error in AAA. His fielding % is currently at .984 and has a range factor/game of 3.88. For a comparison, Brian Dozier's range factor/game was 2.88 AAA (It is up to 5.00 in the majors).

For reasons still unexplained, 2B Yangervis Solarte, who produced this line:

 

329/367/466/834 with a 2B RF of 4.22,

 

was not only not promoted from New Britain last year, the Twins declined to add him to the 40-man roster and re-sign him as a 6-year MiL vet. The Twins didn't even try to sign him and at least try to get something in trade.

 

BTW, this post isn't intended as a perfect comparison to Florimon, but it is important to point out- Solarte is ONE YEAR YOUNGER than Florimon, only 24, and would have been a great super-utility guy to replace Casilla at some point down the road.

Florimon is indeed looking good. The Texas Rangers, widely regarded as the best team in baseball, also must think that Yangervis Solarte is looking good, signing him as a FA when the Twins released him. They are using him at the super-utility role (but primarily at 2B- 30 games), playing OF and 3 infield spots at their AAA PCL affiliate Red Rock. Here is Solarte's slash line there:

When you look at that line and what the Twins retained in AAA and the major league level, it boggles the mind.

Quick update: 22 games in AAA and the Florimonster has a slash line of .259/.315/.400. He has 22 hits in 89 AB, including one double, one triple, and 3 HRs. He is also up to 4 stolen bases.

 

He has still been solid with the glove. He has a fielding percentage at .989 and has a range factor/game of 4.09.

 

Pedro has yet to see any time at any other position other than SS this year.

It's been a mixed bag for the Florimonster since the last update. The good news is his batting average is up to .270 and added two doubles. The bad news is he has committed 3 errors as well.

Let's hope this week's update signifies a low point for Pedro. Slash line of .248/.292/.357. Fielding % is back up to .969 with 4 errors. Let hope Pedro starts finding the gaps again and starts to tack on those doubles.

Florimon had two hits last night, in the 16-0 disaster. I heard Terry Ryan on Sunday and he said that if Pedro hits, he'll be a big leaguer. While his stats aren't great, he's holding his own and he does have other skills.

I was thinking about commenting about his two hits last night. But I've been doing updates on basically a weekly basis.

 

I haven't heard the quote from TR before. That is good info to have. You are right though, he does have other skills and he does seem to be holding his own.

Quick update time:

 

Slash line .250/.294/.350 with 5 doubles, 1 triple and 3 HR's.

Fielding % = .970 and a range factor/g of 3.98. He has 5 errors on the year.

 

Overall, Florimon is still holding his own at AAA. It would be nice to see him take some more walks and strike out a little less. Currently K/BB ratio is 45/8 in 175 PA. Striking out at 25.7% rate.

Florimon is headed to Buffalo, NY to represent the Red Wings in the 2012 AAA All-Star game! Why is he going? Take a look for yourself:

 

Batting .25/.320/.362 with 11 2B, 2 3B and 3 HR

Fielding: .973 Fld% and a RF/G if 4.24

 

Fun Fact: Florimon apparently stepped in to pitch for a game some time in the last week. There are defensive stats listed for him, but no pitching stats. I will try to dig deeper into to this one to find out what exactly took place.

Is there a better time to give an update about my favorite adopted prospect than the day after he goes 3-4 with a walk and a double? Seems like a pretty good time to me.

 

Batting line - .260/.324/.358 with 12 2B, 2 3B and 3 HRs. Current K/BB raio = 68/21. With his his 254 PA's, he's currently at a 26.8% rate and walking at a 8.27% rate.

 

Fielding - Fld% = .973, Errors = 8, RF/G = 4.28

Not a big change from last week except for an extra 2 doubles. The fact that he hasn't walked in a week is a little concerning though.

The Florimonster got his call up. He's headed to Minnesota. Although it probably has more to do with his defense (and Brian Dozier's performance) than his offensive prowess. This will be his second time seeing time at the show (He came up with the Orioles for 4 games)

Fielding: .974 Fld%, 9 Errors and a 4.41 RF/G
