IDK for some reason I was told that I have to provide the proof. When I said our own team beat writers have tweeted it out before. But its been stated many times that a few of our starters are much better with Jeffers than Vazquez. Since apparently a couple individuals were too lazy just to go to baseball reference and instead wanted to call me a liar, here we are. Wasnt looking for a huge debate just literally stated what Twins writers have reported.

Lopez:

Jeffers: 78 1/3 2.87 ERA .583 OPS 5.53 K/BB

Vazquez(before tonight): 80 1/3 4.37 ERA .750 OPS 4.22 K/BB

Gray

Jeffers: 70 1/3 3.58 ERA .597 OPS 2.42 K/BB

Vazquez 79 2/3 2.60 ERA .632 OPS 3.67 K/BB

Maeda

Jeffers: 21 1/3 5.06 ERA .690 OPS 8.33 K/BB

Vazquez: 57 1/3 4.55 .765 OPS 3.67 K/BB

Ober:

Jeffers:  55 1/3 3.58 ERA .758 OPS 4.91 K/BB

Vazquez: 67 1/3 3.74 ERA .678 OPS 4.4 K/BB

Ryan

Jeffers: 63 2/3 2.40 ERA .569 OPS 6.6 K/BB

Vazquez 67 1/3 6.15 ERA  .865 OPS 5.47 K/BB

Varland

Jeffers: 17 2/3 3.57 ERA .718 OPS 4.75 K/BB

Vazquez: 38 1/3 6.10 ERA .905 OPS 2.92 K/BB

Keuchel too small too post. His only start with Vazquez was the Dbacks start so technically better in that.

Anyways. Kinda insane I had to go through all this. I just remember sports writers tweeting out back when Joe got hurt about how much worse him and Pablo are with Vazquez. Apparently I cant just say that without providing proof as if I get paid to report data. But here it is just as my memory served. I also stated on the game thread that Gray is better with Vazquez but most of that was April Gray.

Either way here is everyones data. Two of our 3 best starters are Cy Young caliber with Jeffers and Jason Lyles with Vazquez. Ober and Maeda are basically a wash ERA wise(maeda with jeffers ballooned yesterday basically). Gray is great with both. Better ERA wise with Vazquez but April inflated and if you want to look it up his Jeffers numbers are the two bad innings pre all star(Balt) and post(seattle). Hes truly really good with both.

The only pitcher to allow a higher opponent OPS with Jeffers as their catcher is Ober. The only pitcher with a better K/BB rate with Vazquez is Gray. Overall our 6 starters with the most innings have vastly performed better with Jeffers and the only one with a ERA even over 4 with Jeffers is Maeda.

Now to not be called out again for "proof" I also heard a stat during one of the games in Seattle(it was the one on FS1 cause their telecast gave it) at that time they said Jeffers was also the best catcher in baseball at blocking balls in the dirt at 100%....jinx and he missed one like right away. But per that stat hes also a better catcher there. Again, cant prove that one sorry doubters, maybe you Tivo'd the game.

Anyways theres the data. And its key not just for those like me who are dreading what we will do with 2 more years of a guy who we know cant hit but clearly handles a staff worse, but a bigger key going forward for when anyone wonders why "so and so is off tonight" check the catcher first. Hopefully yesterday with Jeffers finally playing 2 in a row was a sign that down the stretch he will catch more.

Below apparently this was also an issue in Boston.

Hey, nice work!  When I was younger I  might have  done that :-)  unless a pitcher  asks for Vasquez, I think you have to go with Jeffers

I still think Jeffers plays better when he plays every other game. I am also not going to look up his hitting stats when playing catcher on consecutive days.

Well, as far as that goes.

You would technically be right but also you wouldnt have to look very hard. Because Mondays game was the first game all year Jeffers has played back to back as a catcher(He has DH'd a couple times). He did go 0-4 though haha.

But yeah the numbers are clear at the very least that its damaging for Ryan and Lopez. Huge sample sizes too. Lopez may have to do with his curve because he does spike it a lot and Jeffers is vrey good with those.

Like I said in the long post though, I am curious though to see how we go for the rest of the year and if Jeffers going back to back becomes a new trend.

And regardless these are just more stats that show come October no more committee. Vazquez should be 100% emergency back up.
