There had been a lot of talk in recent months about the Twins breaking away from Elizabethton after a very long relationship with the organization. Last night, the Elizabethton city council passed some legislation that made the Twins happy enough to agree to stay for another five seasons.

But Thursday morning, Minnesota Twins management signed on to a “memorandum of understanding” spelling out the terms of the deal which calls for Elizabethton to make about $1.5 million in improvements to the clubhouse and Joe O’Brien field. The deal calls for the Twins to contribute about $500,000 toward furnishings.

The Elizabethton city council voted unanimously last night to make it a reality.

Tradition is good, and the Twins and Elizabethton just make sense together.
