Miller (Star Tribune): Molitor: 12 pitchers; true designated hitter

Give (forced to) Pelfrey away:  a given.  See Livan Hernandez in '08--and he had an enviable record.

Nolasco--he definately gets a longer leash.  The contract, plus the improved results (after some changes) at the end of the season.  If he fails (miserably fails) I cite the example of Carlos Silva and Seattle.  They traded him for Bradley (a baseball cancer of sorts).  The Twins could take a similar tack and trade him for someone else's problem--say for example some over-priced OF with two years left on his contract.

Milhone:  for some reason his name wasn't mentioned.  Normally there is a reason for that--we'll see.

Meyer and May:  typical GM games in play here:  vets with contracts and rookie without service time.

That's not near true.  There are 24 other names on that 25 man roster.  Things have changed.  Besides Pelfrey, if he's the fifth starter, of the 24 names would you eliminate in order not to field a horrible veteran team?

We have four starters with spots and rightfully so. They have earned those spots, even Ricky Nolasco, contract be dammed has a career worthy of a MLB starting pitcher.

Mike Pelfrey has no reason making this team ahead of Meyer or May (or even Milone).  It does not help this team in the short, medium, or long term to give him any additional reps.  He is not part of the present or future. If he makes the team it will be in the same vein as the other players listed.  Veteran with a contract over what is best for the club.

I'd rather have a pitching coach make that assessment regarding Pelfrey.  Because he is in a different stage of his career, I agree 100% re: Meyer.

My read is that Pelfrey has been asked if he'd like to try the bullpen, and apparently he's refused. I'm not sure how that squares up with the "do whatever it takes" attitude that supposedly makes him a great guy to have around. That's just my read and obviously I don't have all the inside info.

Whatever. Meyer is willing to pitch from the pen, but not Pelfrey. Really, really easy roster decision.
