David Dorsey has an interesting story on Tim Shibuya:

http://www.news-press.com/story/sports/2014/07/22/miracle-pitcher-tim-shibuya-excels-fielding/13029729/

Tim Shibuya, 24, fields his position better than anyone, said multiple coaches and talent evaluators within the Minnesota Twins organization.

...

“Tim Shibuya one of the best fielding pitchers I’ve ever seen, including in the majors — in all of my days. In all of my days,” Lucas said, stressing the word “all.”

“I was fortunate enough to see Jim Kaat. I was fortunate enough to see Kenny Rogers. I’m probably leaving somebody else out, but as far as professional pitchers go, Tim Shibuya is right there with them. He just has a savvy and feel for doing the little things. Tim Shibuya is in the right place 99 percent of the time.”

Pretty high praise for his fielding.

The article also does a good job of discussing his route to pro ball. Wonder if that 50 or 60 days of off-season skiing gets curtailed if he reaches the majors?

A well written article and high praise, indeed. Thank you, JB_Iowa, for sharing this.

If I might amend one thing...On that day in 2007, when Tim Shibuya walked on at UCSD, the skiing was put on the back burner and the skis went in the closet. The quote should read, "...who skied 50 to 60 days a year during the offseason..." (High school years)

Thank you. I was pretty sure that skiing was one of those activities that was discouraged for baseball players!
