  1. Yes, but in probably 25 other parks, that's barely a warning track fly ball.
  2. Is it concerning that, even though well over the fence, Rosario was 30-40 feet to the left of where the ball left the stadium?
  3. The Yankees (team of Lou Gerhig, Chris Chambliss, Don Mattingly and Tino Martinez) have their first baseman hitting 9th.
  4. They may not bave been similar situations, but I honestly don't think anyone would have second guessed pulling Gibson after the second inning Donaldson HR. Especially with his track record.
  5. So, I wonder if in his one start the team was able to pick up anything about Garcia that might help them tomorrow. Mauer has terrible career numbers against CC. 1 for 15 since 2012. Have to think he gets that day off. He's not realistically going to play in all the remaining games. With Wednesday being a day game, Tuesday is probably a good day. Obviously, there needs to be a balance between putting the best people out there and making sure those people don't break down.
  6. And he laid an absolute egg. He has a lead right now and may even get a win. But this is the Gibson we have seen for the majority of his career. Not very good. Doesn't command his pitches well enough.
  7. Anybody think that if Hildenberger pitched on the 3rd base side, he would be more effective vs RHB? I haven't pitched since I was 9. But my amateur eyes see that it could create a more extreme angle and thus be tougher to pick up out of his hand.
  8. Busenitz's command of the strike zone still needs work. That he is the 4th best relief option is certainly concerning.
  9. And there is exhibit #1 as to why Anthony Recker should probably be on the roster.
  10. Escobar has been valuable because Sano has only started 79 games at third. Personally, I would rather have had Sano start 120-130 games at third. Which would have meant 40-50 fewer games for Escobar.
  11. Just a hunch that in some of the others it was after a double switch or even an injury replacement.
  12. Given the choice, I'd prefer Moustakas over Hosmer. Clearly, the Twins need a plan B at third. Miguel Sano has not started even 80 games there this year. Escobar has filled in admirably, but I really have a hard time beliving he is a .766 OPS, almost 20 HR guy - if he finishes that high, it would be a career best. He's certainly not the 1.100 OPS guy that we've seen in September.
  13. And as I keep pointing out (because I think it is relevant), Gibson's "turnaround" happened while he faced some of MLB's worst offenses.
  14. Yeah, even the Twins beat them 2 of 3. For this franchise, that's like climbing Everest.
  15. That's because your end date is the current date, not August 17. What I am saying is that his very good numbers since then skew the subpar numbers he had in the previous 2 1/2 months. It's the clearest definition of a SSS skewing a larger sample.
  16. 87 would be about 3 per team. Between injuries, skipping the worst starter a few times and shuffling pitchers from AAA to get better production from the bottom of the rotation, that seems about right.
  17. Might want to check with LaTroy Hawkins first.
  18. I just don't see the line of improvement at that point. Some, sure. He went from historically bad to merely bad from June through the first couple weeks of August. This is Gibson's combined line (if I did the math correctly) from June 1 through August 17: 72 IP, 87 H, 45 ER, 11 HR, 29 BB, 50 K. ERA=5.63, WHIP=1.61 I'm sorry. I still don't consider that acceptable from a number 4 or a number 5. I'd certainly be looking to upgrade that if I was at all able to do so. Since then, yes, the results are undeniably good. Fantastic, even. But it still doesn't erase the previous 4 months or frankly his entire career.
  19. Then all of those wins weren't in October. There's usually no more than 3 regular season games in October. Win all those and 12 more and you will have swept the playoffs. Even with the current 1-3-4-4 format.
  20. Can definitely say that 20 wins in a row in October wins a championship. Maybe even 15.
  21. Just in case anyone forgot, this is pitcher # 36 on the season.
  22. They play the Giants and Padres 38 times this year.
