  1. Except that there is no indication from the FO or the manager that they intend to do that. If they did, where are Wade, Romero, Busenitz, Curtiss, and even add Tyler Austin to the list?
  2. .513 the rest of the way still leaves them sub .500. That’s as much math as I am willing to do.
  3. And despite putting up good numbers, Washington made no effort to retain him and no other team made a better offer. What does that tell you about how teams felt about him?
  4. You seriously expect them to do that? Edit: After re-reading, this could be interpreted to mean that you are asking TD writers to evaluate. Which would be a perfectly logical and appropriate request. I thought you meant the Twins braintrust. Which would not be IMO.
  5. Seeing as how it is pretty clear that they want Molitor out, that seems unlikely. And even if he does, that is not Molitor’s job. If they allow the manager that kind of authority, the FO isn’t doing their job. Sure, they seek input. But at the end of the day, they need to make the decision and be held accountable for it.
  6. Yet, incredibly, these two are the only guys that have given Matt Belisle a guaranteed MLB contract since 2016. And they have done it TWICE. Doesn’t really jibe with them being smart or knowing what they are doing. Unless you think 29 other FO teams are stupid.
  7. According to whom? I would say that was “supposed” to be Sano or Buxton.
  8. FWIW, Belisle still has the best inherited runner/scored mark of any Twins reliever. Maybe his role should be coming in with runners on as opposed to starting an inning. Of course, his leverage usage is close to the bottom for the Twins.
  9. You want 20 pitchers in September? How are they going to be used in a way that even comes close to replicating regular season usage?
  10. There’s no such thing as a “reduced role” player in these days of 12 and 13 man pitching staffs. I think the Twins try like hell to bring Escobar back to play 3b, move Sano to 1b/dh and use Austin there as well. Austin can also play some OF to spell the regulars and I would expect Granite or Cave to be at the MLB level as a reserve as well.
  11. So much math. My head is going to explode.
  12. Exactly. A trade requires two willing participants. Duke should be easy enough to trade. I’m not at all sure any team would want Dozier, Morrison or Rodney. Lynn maybe. A healthy starter is usually tradeable at any time.
  13. Because it would be difficult for LEN to ask Escobar to confirm or deny? Does Escobar have any reason to lie?
  14. Morrison is the obvious answer there. Escobar was the second most productive hitter in the lineup. I know many of us (myself included) criticize Molitor’s moves. But he’s not THAT stupid. Escobar would have played somewhere at least 6 games out of 7. Pressly too has arguably been the second most reliable bullpen arm. Teams that are trying for it this year don’t trade off key pieces.
  15. The Twins will basically be remaking their entire bullpen in 2019. Hildenberger is the likely closer. Keep in mind there was some wonder if he should have made the team out of ST at all and he struggled the first couple weeks. He’s really the surest thing the Twins have. Rogers is a good loogy, but he hasn’t been as good against LHB as in previous years. After that there are a whole boatload of “if”s and “maybe”s. Sound like the bullpen of a legitimate contender to you? Free agency? How did that work out this year? Trades? Teams that are planning to contend aren’t going to trade bullpen arms. Non contenders probably have either kids they won’t trade or has beens no one wants.
  16. Only org apologists would truly believe that Escobar was traded to get Sano back in the lineup. Taking your second most productive hitter out isn’t what a winning team would do. They would figure out ways to get him in more.
  17. Thome struck out 2500 times in over 10,000 plate appearances. His career rate was less than 25%. And he had a 5.9% HR rate. Sano’s career rate is 36.4%. His career HR rate is 5.3%. Thome struck out considerably less and went deep more frequently. So, yeah Sano isn’t Thome. That’s not GOOD news. Because that is kinda what the Twins need him to be.
  18. Just because there are new people at the top doesn’t mean the people in the trenches actually working with players has changed. Indeed, there have been only a handful of reported changes of minor league coaches, managers, etc. And many of the people moved were reassigned, not simply dismissed. Doug Mientkiewicz being the notable exception. Same people. Same culture. Same results. If Falvine wants organizational methods to change, that is where changes need to be made. I will agree the Twins have been no better at trades and free agents. The kind of lousiness the Twins have experienced is organization wide failure. The changes have been cosmetic, at best.
  19. Pressly and Escobar aren’t relevant to the conversation because they never worked in-season with the minor league player development personnel. The comment you quoted of mine was in direct response to a post about acquiring minor league prospects. I made no mention of Sano or Buxton. So, that is twice in a single post that you directed your response in a completely different way than the post to which you were replying. I’m not going to change my opinion. The results on the field for the last 7 or so years speak for themselves.
  20. Do we really need to run down the list of failed “can’t miss” prospects this organization has had over the last decade? And how are Escobar or Pressly relevant to the conversation? They both started their tenures with the Twins at the MLB level.
  21. How? With four ifs and maybes in the rotation? How’s that working out with three this year?
  22. This exactly. If your player development staff hasn’t been getting the job done, does it make sense to give them more projects?
  23. Sano is back BECAUSE Escobar was traded. Escobar wasn’t traded to make room. If all they wanted to do was make room they would have rid themselves of Morrison, not one of the most productive hitters on the team. Teams that are trying to win don’t trade their best players away. Other than the Twins (see 2001) of course.
  24. If there was already a deal in place to send Duke to Boston, they would announce it and he’d be in their uniform. They wouldn’t wait until after the series. Sure, they could be working on it yet. But there is no way Boston suggested that the Twins not use him while negotiations were ongoing. That would be tampering and could be construed as attempting to influence the outcome (i.e. fixing) of games. There is no way either team would do that. Anyone caught doing it would be banned for life.
