  1. Sure, but not if you don't think they are ready. I know there is a school of thought that says promoting to MLB from AA is fine. I don't agree with it, but I know many do. My opinion is that there is a value to being at AAA for prospects. The competition is better. But they are also hanging around with some players that have MLB experience. They are hopefully learning from them what it takes to make it in the show. The other school of thought is that AAA should basically just be injury replacements. It remains to be seen what school Falvey and Levine belong to.
  2. I'm not saying people are wrong by saying the Twins have promoted from AA. But I honestly can't think of recent examples and lack time to check.
  3. The dips and peaks with Mauer are exactly why he needs to sit more. He's pretty good well rested. But he can't maintain a good groove very long. Age eventually wins against everyone. Some sooner than others. Not really surprising that is affecting a guy his size who was squatting down a couple hundred times a game for ten years. I don't see Mauer in the outfield. I don't think he has the legs. Mauer can be effective in a part time role. I just don't think he can be in a full time role. The problem is that even at his best, he provides below average production for a first baseman/DH. And likely production that is below the level of what Vargas and Grossman can.
  4. I wish we could tag users with a "c" or "p" to indicate their current opinion on whether the Twins are truly contenders. Sending Pressly down and calling up Burdi, for example, because it is believed that he is better now only makes sense to a contender. I know some people are fine with calling up from AA. Personally, I prefer to see how a guy does in AAA first. I don't think this team is a contender and therefore I don't think it makes sense to bring up Burdi, who may not be ready. Do I think he is ready for AAA? Yep.
  5. I was personally thinking more like 5 of 7 games. But yeah, that is what I want to see. Do I think that will happen? Not with Paul Molitor managing.
  6. The Twins had a Cy Young winner on their team during Morneau's MVP season, which was also Mauer's second best season, so I have a hard time buying that. 2006 was their best shot. It didn't work out. Mr Mauer was 2 for 11 in that debacle. He can point fingers at the org if he chooses, but that simply means 3 fingers are pointing back at him.
  7. Re: Mayer. Why does #### autocorrect work except when you need it? lol
  8. I'm not really sure what the org opinion of Curtiss is. He's not even listed among their top 30 prospects. He's allowed substantially more baserunners than Melotakis or Burdi. Of the 3, Melo is by quite a bit the oldest (26 next month). IMO Melo should have started the season at AAA. If he had, perhaps he would be ready to help the MLB team now.
  9. Anyone can get hot for a couple weeks. You say starting to produce, I say sample size. Mauer is a low to mid .700 OPS player the last 3 years. That is simply what he is now. That isn't good enough for a middle of the order hitter or a first baseman. Do I know FOR SURE that Vargas is better than that? Of course not. But I think it is pretty sure that Mauer will be a low to mid .700 OPS player and I think the Twins need to find out if Vargss is better than that.
  10. It would be a vastly different story if Chargois and Reed were healthy and Burdi was ready. I think Burdi is still a couple months away. I think he needs to be promoted asap and see how he fares against somewhat better competition.
  11. Zach Granite would be an ideal 4th OFer. And he would add speed back into the equation. Sure, he MIGHT be good enough to start someday, but he's already older than 2 of the 3 starting OFers and just one year younger than the other. Until a better option presents itself, Grossman and Vargas need to be in the lineup. I consider the Mauer situation analagous to Ryan Howard. At some point, the Twins need to say "produce or you are not going to play". Much as playing Howard was a impediment to developing a replacement, so too is playing Mauer. And it has set the Phillies franchise back 5 years.
  12. If he won't hit enough to be a dh, he probably won't hit enough to be a corner OF, given that he is a liability out there. It's one thing to be a defensive liability in the OF and put up a .950 OPS. It's different at the .850 level, which is probably where Grossman plateaus.
  13. If by "this team" you mean this year, I think that would be a mistake. I still don't see this as a legitimate contender once they face good teams. With the Sox losing last night, the only teams the Twins have played that are currently above .500 are the Red Sox, Indians and Tigers. The Twins are 3-9 against those teams. IMO if trades are to be made, they should be made with the future as top priority. Not the present. I think we see the Twins take quite a reality check starting this weekend.
  14. What would you expect to receive for someone who "may not hit enough to justify regular time at DH"?
  15. He's still hitting better than Joe Mauer and I expect that to continue. Trading him won't fetch much anyway. Certainly not pitching substantially better than what the Twins have. Mid range prospect, MAYBE.
  16. Falvey and Levine really haven't had a chance yet to weed the minor league garden. I suspect there will be many changes this offseason. The previous regime failed to hold the development staff accountable IMO. Too much country club attitude. Seriously, AAA pitchjng coach Stu Cliburn was hired by Andy MacPhail. Cliburn has literally coached almost every pitcher that has come up the ladder since he started in 1993. One notable exception is Brad Radke. It just happened that Radke advanced in the system a year ahead of Cliburn. Many have noted that he was one of the last solid career pitchers drafted and developed by the Twins. A lot of people probably would have noticed the timing coincided with Cliburn's hiring a long time ago. I am sure he's a wonderful person, but that isn't what he is paid for. He's paid to develop pitchers. Why am I picking on him? Well, his longevity for one. Second, his now infamous quote regarding Jose Berrios, something like "I don't know why he was so good in AAA and so bad in MLB." Dude, you are PAID to know why and then try to fix it. Could Cliburn have been playing coy to protect Berrios? Sure. But Molitor hasn't been shy about giving a specific reason.
  17. I put little stock into any ST stats other than maybe the last week or so. Prior to that there are so many non-major leaguers playing the stats are pretty meaningless. Also, every player has their own pace of getting ready for the season. The only time ST numbers are meaningful is if you have a rookie trying to win a roster spot. How does he look vs MLB competition? And even then you really have to almost be there in person to judge it.
  18. Gibson allowed 3 runs in his first AAA start. Gibson has allowed 5 in 6 starts. But he doesn't belong up here.
  19. Not if they send him back. Which I would guess was meant by take a flier in ST.
  20. Gibson lost his start for Rochester. 6 innings, 3 runs.
  21. Escobar looking like Sano over there...
  22. I think he has been vastly different since his second stint last year. He is showing far better plate discipline. He hasn't walked many times so far, but he is making pitchers work and when he gets his pitch, he isn't missing it very often.
  23. My vote is play everyday somewhere. If that means Mauer sits, so be it.
  24. My wife and I were at a place where all the seats were recliners. Eden Prairie I think. Some mall with a Target and JC Penney store in it.
