  1. Excited to say the least. Would be nice to have Mother Nature shape up so we can enjoy the home opener!!! The next wave of “extended spring trainers” will only make them better, but they’re probably waiting on advancing a few of the Kernels before they come on up from Florida.
  2. Nailed it. It becomes so much more of a "2 against 1" or "9 against 1" if your catcher is doing his job correctly the higher up you get. Throw some ground balls. It's more democratic.
  3. I agree as well. It's a complete "duh" moment and I'm glad front offices are seeing this. However, the owners only get that much more rich. Heaven forbid ticket prices would EVER drop or prices of ANYTHING at a ball game for that matter to make it more affordable for a family of 4 to go.
  4. After those ST showings, I'm becoming a Littell bit of a believer.
  5. Goes to show the worth of minor league relievers' trade value. Yes, some of these guys were injury prone, but got as close to the bigs as it gets. Tough to see a hard baller like Chargois go. He probably has the highest ceiling out of them all and did pitch in a Futures Game. Best of luck to the lot!!! Would love to see good things happen for Adam Brett Walker as well. He had a tough go of it since we released him.
  6. You had me at patience. Reading on how Molitor views Romero, it's pretty clear he'd like him in the bullpen. He raves about his bullpen upside, then says, "...but they say he has potential as a starter." Well, I'm glad to see he's willing to give him a shot. This kid's getting close to the cusp of The Show. Just see it through and do things right. Haven't had a pitcher hyped like this since Liriano. When he gets his shot, if he has a breakout season 1/2 as good as Liriano's short-lived '06, I'd be thrilled. Keep that kid healthy.
  7. Just a quick note. Last season vs. the Yanks, Odorizzi was 2-1, went at least 6, 19.2 innings, 5 earned runs. Not bad for a 3-4-5 pitcher, or wherever you want to rank him.
  8. Okay. So sources say we didn’t ante up enough for Archer. I’m curious. Just Palacios for Odorizzi. What wasn’t enough for Archer? Everyone who knows Twins baseball was like, “...just Palacios?”
  9. Agreed. He seems to be a bit of a tall-framed bull dog out on the hill. I'd be fine with him building up some innings in Rochester, but I'd also be fine with him getting a shot as well. Give the 5 spot to the best player who earns it. Looking out at our pitching prospects, I like Gonsalves & Romero being towards the top. It's nice to know we have guys coming up who can contribute past these two, instead of coasting by on random free agents and fillers. I respect how hard Gibson has worked, but I'd love for someone new to come in and finally give him a run for his money too. Our rotation needed a revamping and we're getting closer to seeing that happen.
  10. I'd agree in saying it's definitely not an insult. Kubel crushed the minors. Weird he spent 2 seasons in the GCL and then skipped over Elizabethton and all that Dr. Enuf. Kirilloff does seem very polished at his young age. He does fit the build of Cuddyer a bit more. Cuddyer actually went straight to A ball out of high school and hit in the .270's. I'd expect Kirilloff to be a very steady bat. I'd have Morneau shadow him in the cage throughout ST.
  11. "Ladies and gentlemen, prospect hopefuls and fans alike. To ground your upbeat and enthusiastic portrayal of a Minnesota Twins prospect with exponential, sky's the limit power potential. May we present to you, Exhibit A, Oswaldo Arcia. Batted .375/14 HRs/58 RBI in 250+ at bats for the Elizabethton Twins in 2010." - Minnesota Twins Prospect Skeptics However, I'm a rube and love this kid's smooth swing. He's shown pretty good plate discipline in his pro debut. I'd love for him to put some balls across Rockford Rd this summer.
  12. I'd agree, but maybe start Wander in EST with Lewis starting in Cedar Rapids. When Lewis gets bumped up to Fort Myers, bring in Wander. Or start them both there. Only trouble is what happens if Wander out performs Lewis? Then I'd go as bold as saying Palacios isn't getting much love here. He deserves some recognition and say he's able to make that jump to AA this year and still hit, we'd have yet another top 100 prospect in the mix.
  13. Talking about Kris Bryant? You could toss him into that list of quick movers along with Bregman, Benintendi, etc. Those guys are also above average defenders though. However, solid offense can quickly drown out sub-par defense. Worked for Delmon Young. Right?.....(crickets)
  14. I'm in a state of "meh" or a teenage "whatever" when it comes to leftover FA pitchers. They'll help, but not impact the club the way Darvish would have. However, I'm with Sixel and Doctor Wu. The free agent pitchers are about as good as what, the talk is, we'd trade for. It's just the price tags would be different. So why give up prospects when you can get the milk for free...agent money? In a trade for a top arm, I'm not a huge Archer fan. Plus, I know that would cost an absurd amount of talent, which is probably why we don't have him already. I'd like to know what happen to the Robbie Ray trade talks. That would also probably take some talent, but call me crazy, I'd like him more than Archer.
  15. Funny you mention Verlander. Heard one comparison that really grabbed my attention, imagine Verlander stuff at 19. That's a bit lofty, but just shows some expectation levels. Right now, I'd compare him to Franklin Perez, who was dealt from the Astros to the Tigers last year. They're both young, very strong arms, w/good off speed, but not a lot of innings pitched as a starter. Perez has a better unibrow.
  16. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!! I'M SICK OF TIRED OF IT ALL. Sign Napoli, give Darvish what he wants. I'm over this off season. Time to play ball. But seriously though. Missing out on signing Darvish would be mistake for our boys. Money talks, but maybe he just doesn't want to be here.
  17. I don't think I've ever heard Nuke used as a verb. Well played. Seems the Twins (pre-Falvine & currently) have drafted, not only very talented players in the past few years towards the top of the draft, but driven kids with good heads on their shoulders. Akil's on my top 5 to watch list this summer. Looking forward to it. Hope he likes pork tenderloins!!! Cedar Rapids is gonna be stacked!!!
  18. Haaaa!!! I'm better than that. Thanks for the correction. I was thinking Moya instead of Enns for some reason.
  19. Great list Nick! I'm always afraid to buy into the hype for guys who have been injured for so long. Not sure if it's better they were injured at a young age where they can rebound better, or if it's a sign we have injury prone prospects. Romero and Thorpe both have been injured or hampered for a the greater part of their young careers. Are there any analytics on players who have been able to crack the bigs that have been out for so long while in the minors?...that being said, yes, I've bought into the hype for Romero and Thorpe. Diaz swings a nice bat. Seems to be a decent enough first baseman, but man, he is the opposite of fast. You're right when you said, he needs to hit and hit a lot in order to crack the bigs. Who knows, he may develop a solid power swing. Weird that a guy that young already qualified for the Rule V draft. On Littell, and Moya I guess, why were the Yankees so quick to trade off Littell (fan choice for MiLB pitcher of the year) and Gabriel Moya (MiLB relief pitcher of the year) for a mid-level rental pitcher? I've read both of their numbers don't reflect their actual ability. Are they the anomaly in this new world of analytics?
  20. Seems like every time a prospect list comes out on here, Rortvedt always get push back from people. I being one of them. Now, I'm confident enough to say I know baseball pretty well, but what I see doesn't even come close to what scouts and pros can see. They must see something. Watching him play and reading about him have helped understand a bit more on the kid. He does call a good game, looks like he's turning a corner at the plate, and can throw people out. He's got age on his side. So that being said, he has the potential to be good, which is what Tom's ranking here. All that being said, I think there are better players in our system that won't crack this list. I'm excited to see what Rortvedt can do this summer though.
  21. It's unfortunate. Both sides need to give. And to truly fix it, the "give" needs to be radical. Much like many of you have suggested. If anyone has been part of negotiations, you know that when you lose something you value, it's rare you get it back in a contract again. I agree with so many great points everyone is making, but I smell a strike because I don't think the owners or the players have the balls to radicalize the system. It's waaaaaaaaaaayyyyy to lucrative for the owners right now. They have all the money, and they'll hold much of the power. The players union better get creative.
  22. I think the guys towards the bottom of this list will only rank higher by season’s end. Then the guys on the fringe, such as Kirilloff, Graterol, and Enlow, even Baddoo could crack this list. That’d put us with up to ten on the top 100 list giving our farm system more notoriety. Home grown too, not traded for, much like those savvy Sox.
  23. This batch of talent makes me excited. Two are very close, one is moving fast, and two are turning heads at the lower levels. I wouldn't be surprised if Graterol is closer to the top of this list by season's end. I don't know enough about him, but talking to some people in the organization, they're more excited about this guy than any other prospect right now, including Lewis.
  24. Fernando may not be as tall as the other top end starters out there, but the guy has the build of a power pitcher. Lots of push off strength. I see the benefits of the bullpen for him. Perhaps the bullpen has a higher ceiling for him. Maybe go from throwing 95-98mph throughout the course of the game to throwing 97-100 for an inning late in the game. Remotely off subject, could you imagine seeing 100mph on FoxTracks from a Minnesota closer someday? I think we're getting close.
  25. Agreed. I've been high on our AA & AAA bullpen for a few years now. These guys are close, and we've put some solid pitchers in their future spots. It's a matter of them seizing opportunities and making the FO's job difficult.
