  1. At some point these inflated projections of Stewart seem like wishful thinking. I just don't see it. Albeit I don't follow THAT closely, but I don't think I'm alone in this sentiment
  2. Granite is a better sport than I am! I couldn't help but blow that dude a kiss after the walk off haha. Poppen is doing very very well. Shouldn't Tyler Wells be back soon? Long 7 day DL. Should definitely be back to a strong starting lineup with him Poppen and Beeker (assuming he continues doing what he was). Good to see the call ups holding their own as well
  3. Would love to see Tyler Wells crack the MLB pipeline top 30 this season. He should be back in the rotation really soon, he was only on the 7 day. If he continues on his trajectory he should be juuust fine. He's missed 2 starts I think and he's still top 10 in the league in Ks (not qualified due to innings, but just the number). Alex Robinson is a super stud or can't hit the broad side of a barn. And you never know which one is gonna make an appearance. I'd love to see him get consistency because his stuff is insane when it's working.
  4. Wells has missed a couple starts and still sits number two in Ks. Pretty damn good. Vasquez has been solid out of relief. Do we get any call up or send down predictions before the draft?
  5. High school position players and pitchers are very different. And no my 9/10 is anecdotal based on personal knowledge and experience. But it doesn't take an MIT study to see what fame and fortune do to kids.
  6. Greene has an ego the size of Texas and with that velo at such a young age is almost certainly going to have TJ sooner than later. Young bodies simply can't handle that hard of throwing without damage. This kid wouldn't see a big league uniform for 4 years at least. Risk isn't worth the reward. Ask teammates how he really is. He scrubbed his twitter of all the Lavar Ball esque things he used to say and clearly has a PR rep having him do all the expected good boy routine. Yes I know he's a kid. But give a kid constant adulation and millions of dollars and 9 times out of ten you're going to create an ego monster and clubhouse cancer
  7. The Dodgers Julio Urias is 20 and this is the third year for him making an appearance in the big leagues. It's not about how old Kohl Stewart is, it's about how awful he is performing. He's fortunate he is the bonus baby because if he were a 10th rounder he'd be hanging out in Ft Myers hoping they don't send him home. That's brutal, but it's true
  8. I've heard quite a few bad things about Greene's ego. He deleted a lot of very full of himself things on his twitter. When you blow a kid like that and give him millions of dollars, it goes to their head 90% of the time. I personally don't like the idea of giving an already ego filled kid the first pick, especially as a pitcher. I think you are much better getting a high school position player a la Kirilloff or Corea than a pitcher. And throwing 100mph at such a young age is virtually a guarantee you're gonna lose him for another year to TJ surgery. McKay would see the higher levels far sooner than Greene. Just my two cents
  9. Very alert on PFP. Goes where he needs to when the situation requires. Not exactly Andrelton Simmons-esque graceful on his feet at 6'8" but when you're striking everyone out, that's not your primary focus lol. He struck out the first FIVE tonight. I watched the game, and no one hit the ball hard. A lot of squeakers and bloops with some bad luck and not so heads up fielding. And if Caviness catches that bloop he dove for, they wouldn't have scored the 2. Wells had a lot of pitches through 5 but the Caps swing at everything and fouled off a ton. If this is an "average" performance, I'll take it! And Seth is right, utterly ridiculous that they didn't score on bases loaded with no outs.
  10. Also, Wells looks like he's barely trying and it's 91-94. I gotta think he's gonna tick up a few mph. And his curve is knee buckling. Last week he threw a 69 mph 12-6 with pretty much the same arm speed as the 92mph FB. He, Poppen, and Beeker are gonna make some scouts look really good for those picks!
  11. and I love how he stands facing the batter like he's going to quick draw a colt 45 on them or kick their ass. Totally agree with this sentiment
  12. No definitely not lol. Just saying the kid is good and I think it'll click in time. Id like see them give him some leeway. But Seth, you follow this WAY closer than me, so I'll totally defer to you on that opinion.
  13. I agree with this list. Although it's KINDA unfair with Berrios winning. Because that dude is a big leaguer wearing the incorrect uniform
  14. I can not fathom anyone being added to the 40 man with performances anywhere close to Stewart's. Unless there's a massive 180, that would be a horrible decision and a slap in the face to non bonus baby players who deserve it. Just my 1.66 cents
  15. But in the game yesterday he busted a 69mph curve for a strike. Ridiculous.
  16. Wells sits 90-92 tops 94. 12k/9 over 71 innings is no joke. Totally think he and Del Rosario will get the call this year. They're both doing better than some in high A
  17. Between Tyler and Lachlan, it looks like we better get used to hearing the name Wells. Seth picked Tyler as his sleeper and so far he's proving to be clairvoyant. I wonder when he'll make the top 30? Oh and Mr triple Palacios.... I mean wow... great job by Diaz also.
  18. Wait. WTF is Turley not getting the call?? I mean DAMN. That's probably the most effective, efficient pitching I've ever heard of. Great starts from all around today! More Ks than a Kellogg's factory!
  19. Wow. 11k in 7 with no walks. Impressive. And he threw 72% strikes. I didn't think Wells would top his 14 k but he damn well might before all is said and done.
  20. Rortvedt was expected by most to stay in EST. He's batting .087 (!!) in low A. Is there a scenario where they'd send him back to EST or just wait til E town starts and see if he emerges slightly above arctic cold before sending him down?
  21. Can we just trade the starting rotation for CR with Ft Myers? 23k by the starters in the last 3 games!
  22. Man that was crazy that Wells walked that many. Very unlike him. But the good news is he gave up only one hit and had 6k in 4. Definitely something to build on. And KUDOS to Del Rosario. A 77 game score! Very nice job. Good season ahead for the Popcorn
  23. Agreed. I totally think this guy has a real shot. They got a bargain on him. I watched him in E town strike out 14 in 7 innings with one hit. And his stuff is filthy. Such downward plane and hard breaking stuff with a slow curve that he throws for strikes that often buckles hitters. And to Mike, yes I suppose you're correct. I'm just sayin there are definitely some guys who have slipped through the draft. And many guys who were busts that were over drafted. Do higher draft picks make it more often because they are that much better? Or because they have investments into them and they get more leeway and attention to develop? Take Patrick McGuff. He was very good his rookie year and he was near the end of the draft. He did way better than guys who got hundreds of thousands of dollars. But in general I do agree that late round guys don't make it as often, but guys like Wells are the ones who make the scouts look like Nostradamus. And top 1/3 of the draft isn't that far off in the big picture. Let's just hope a few of them turn out to be great!
