  1. Agree. The Twins aren't exactly the 1927 Yankees. Vargas is showing more than enough to deserve a shot at more ABs for the Twins.
  2. Excited to see Kennys Vargas get full time ABs for the rest of the season. I really believe he could be a player after his reality checks in the minors.
  3. I don't think he is a good fit for the Twins.
  4. In a perfect world Buxton would be leading off. Stealing 30 bases and scoring 100+ runs. Right now? Don't change a thing. Let him continue with the success he is having. He doesn't need the added pressure of leading off. Let him have all winter basking in his new found confidence. Next spring is the time to up the ante ...and please let me see Vargas batting 5 the rest of the year. Get him as many bats as possible.
  5. Maybe the Twins should reach out the Blue Jays and offer to clean up Josh Donaldsons leg kick
  6. Agree, although I think his average might be a bit higher. I only mentioned Boston and Ortiz for an ironic chuckle.
  7. Agree...but if you aren't winning, then hope also creates interest. Hope as in the team has a plan. Hope as in the team is building a strong farm team and some exciting young players are on the way or are getting playing time in the bigs. The worse thing is a stale team with no hope.
  8. The Twins are obviously too deep to be able to find ABs for someone like Vargas. Maybe a lowly team like the RedSox could find room. Big Poppi is retiring. Vargas could slide right in. What do you think the chances of Vargas succeeding in Boston are if he played full time ?
  9. That's why you play him full time, so the small sample size becomes a larger sample size. ...and how many hitters can succeed playing every 4th game? Yes Vargas has struggled recently but what else can you expect? Not only physically trying to keep your timing but what about mentally? You make a choice to work on your hitting by being more patient and taking a few pitches ...and it's working. You are getting on base way more often and pitchers are learning they have to throw you strikes. They can't get you out anymore by throwing pitches into the dirt. Result? Better BA/OBP and you are still hitting HRs. You show up to game 1 of a double header and hit 2 HRs ! ...and you are rewarded with a spot on the bench game 2 ...and the next 3 games. Talk about messing with a guys head.
  10. A team in a playoff hunt can't afford to experiment by giving young guys with potential more playing time.
  11. Agree ..and then create a plan and stick to it. Currently they are treading water, which gets you nowhere. The funny thing? When a lifelong big spending big market team like the Yankees can commit to a rebuild why can't a small market team? The Yankees have made some nice trades to now have the #1 rated farm, They have traded away or cut most of their older players. They have committed to playing their young players the rest of the year to see what they have moving forward. What a concept. The Twins? Who knows what their plan is. It sure appears as if Molitor prefers veteran players. Not sure if that is his choice or a directive from management. It's not a newsflash that the Twins likely won't make the playoffs or win the World Series this year ....or maybe management doesn't realize that
  12. Check out Mike Zunino of the Mariners. Pretty much the same scenario. Rushed to the majors because he was the 3rd overall pick.. Hit some HRs but was clueless at the plate....as bad or worse than Buxton. So the Mariners sent him back to the minors. Fine tuned his swing and worked on his confidence. Got called up a little while ago and is a completely different hitter. Takes a walk and isn't trying to hit a HR every AB. How you develop a player, how you judge a player and how quickly you promote a player should never be based on where in the draft he was picked. That is foolishness.
  13. Exactly ....and it's not as if this bad decision was a one off. It's time for a complete overall.
  14. Look up 'Journeyman' in the dictionary. You will find a picture of Kintzler. He is a few bad innings from being out of the major leagues.
  15. Baltimore had a 26 year old pitcher that rocked a 6.20 ERA with the big club. Also split time in AAA. The following year split time between AAA and 2 MLB teams. As a 28 year old was sent down to A+ and AA before finally settling in with his new team, the Chicago Cubs. The odds are Meyer won't become anything. To say for sure that he won't ? Well you can't, because you don't know. He has always been an intriguing prospect. There was no reason not to wait it out a couple of more years. He is cheap, and isn't blocking anyone.
  16. I'm sure Boston would help the Twins out and take Vargas off their hands. He could replace another ex Twin who is retiring. Full time DH spot wide open for him. I am not really a betting man, but in this situation I would bet a good chunk of cash that Vargas would succeed big time in Boston.
  17. Mentor ? Although I guess when you are battling for a playoff spot why wouldn't you bring in an older player who can't field or hit.
  18. lol why does this not surprise me. Loved Molitor as a player, but he's not a Manager. Maybe in a few years, but not now.
  19. Agree. If you watch the games, you will see he has drastically changed his approach. Sustainable? Only more ABs will answer that. It's not as if the Twins can't afford an experiment or two at this stage of a brutal season. I wonder what goes on in Vargas's head. He makes a concerted effort to deal with previous flaws in his game. It seems to be working. More playing time? Nope. I wouldn't blame him if he is thinking that Arcia was correct. Forget about good ABs and taking a pitch or two. Swing for the fences baby and don't worry about K's or batting average.
