  2. Yeah, I thought they'd let Guerrero or Arruebarrena fight it out for 2B. Both look to have a pretty nice bat for middle infielders, even by PCL standards. Sure the Dodgers can just go buy Heaney in seven years when he's a free agent and they can buy the David Prices' and Jeff Samardzjias in the mean time, but if you don't need to blow cash, why would you? There is plenty of benefit to every team in trying to groom their own cheaply controled young studs. As a Twins fan, I'd rather play Heaney and Guerrero than Kendrick.
  3. Ha, yeah the timing of this one was a little unfortunate considering 50 minutes later the team announces it's largest free agent signing ever.
  4. We've got a lot of Santana threads going on now. Can any be consolidated?
  5. I don't think a rebuilding bottom dweller would be wise to trade the prospects and keep the veterans.
  6. I get that it sounds pessimistic, but he's got a partially torn UCL. It hasn't snapped yet but I can't stop the feeling that it is so obviously going to happen while he's playing for the Twins. Does it not sound like exactly the kind of thing one of our Minnesota franchises should have seen coming but didn't?
  7. With Santana, Nolasco and Hughes still under contract, then we'll be adding Berrios to the frustrated waiting line. I'd prefer a rebuilding team not to have a stating rotation with an average age of 30.
  8. I don't like stiffling the youth movement and I don't trust Santana to stay healthy, but congrats to Mr. Ryan on outbidding what appeared to be some pretty big hitters. It's a feather in his cap even if it doesn't pan out.
  9. Yes, but I'm looking at next year when he's a free agent. Zimmerman, Latos, Cueto, Gallardo, Buchholz, Fister, Kazmir, Iwukuma, Kennedy, Porcello, Price and Samardzjia are at this time available free agents in 2016. Price, Samardzjia and maybe another may price themselves out of the Twins price range, but most of those guys would be prime Twins targets. Well they would have, likely not now.
  10. With a 5th year vesting option!?
  11. The current roster may be cheaper, but they threw in a lot of money with Kemp, Gordon and Haren. I like the middle infield but that roster is looking pretty old, they're going to look like the Yankees pretty quickly. Kendrick is a good player, but I think I'd rather have kept Heaney and let the Cubans battle it out for 2B.
  12. Well sure. Though some surely would disagree based on ERA or something silly, I wouldn't consider Dillon Gee or any other 88 MPH junkballer an overpay. I'm guessin the front office doesn't feel the same way, but my return in any one of this prospective trades wouldn't necissarily require current MLB talent.
  13. I think we all got a little bit ahead of ourselves with the Puckett quote. He's also tweeting quotes from Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays and Ernie Banks. All of those players were known for playing for teams with supposed interest in Santana. No quote from George Brett though, sorry Royals fans. I have to say, I didn't want Santana on a multi year deal, but the baseball nerd in me loves the fact that he's quoting HOFers that he's likely never met.
  14. The Tigers also got Alfredo Simon from the Reds.
  15. He's a top prospect who's about to turn 25. It's not about earning a spot, he shouldn't be sitting in Rochester until the front office sees exactly what they want to see. A lot has been invested in him, we need to see what he can do, even if he hasn't earned a spot.
  16. I'd rather have Duensing for one season. Gilmartin is a soft tossers who will get eaten alive in the pen. Eaten alive in the rotation too. He'll be back by April.
  17. Well let's wait to see where Santana signs before we overreact and call it a joke. After he signs, we are all allowed to overreact.
  18. Soft tossing lefties belong in the NL anyway. Not sure that an 88 MPH fastball will work out for a rookie out of the pen though. Odds are he'll get returned. Acutally odds are nearly all will get returned.
  19. And not all of us have been clamoring for him.
  20. Yeah, just like with Nolasco last year, I wasn't fan of the deal, but I'll applaud Ryan for not sitting on is hands. I rip him enough for being conservetive, I'd be a hypocrite for not recognizing when he's not.
  21. A four year deal to a guy with a partially torn UCL. Good luck. I'll be disappointed if he can't post similar K numbers also. I'm not expecting him to.
  22. That illogical idea sounds about right. The union sure isn't giving the agents much credit if they think they couldn't spot GM's trying to use such twisted facts.
  23. This Puckett fella, played for the Giants did he not?
  24. I guess I just don't understand why that would happen unless team's were using current salray instead of AAV. No agent is going to sit across from the table from a GM trying to peddle the idea a comparable player with an AAV of $15 million should only be worth $6 million because that's what his salary was last year. Neither side would be naive enough to think the other truely doesn't understand the difference.
