    I'm on the Thorpe-wagon also. Prior to the TJ surgery he was the fastest rising prospect this team had, threatening to join the Berrios/Buxton/Sano group. The surgery is a concern obviously, but he lost his steam last year due to missing the season with mono. And I'm not going to hold mono over a guy, that only seems like it would be career threatening if he was a professional gigolo.

    It doesn't have to be a "tough on crime" push, too many men of all ages don't realize that this garbage is illegal/immoral. I loved the movie Animal House and most of the other teen sexual romp comedies back in the day. Many are still held up as classics despite the fact that nearly every one of them portrays sexual assault as a hilarious game. Suspensions don't have to be a tough on crime situation, they need to be an eye-opening situation. I'd wager there have been more than one young men who have read the report and thought to themselves, "that could have been me" who now would have second thoughts seeing this situation from the victim's perspective.

    The bad news is that I still haven't figured out how to turn off the speakers on my new computer at work. The good new is that everyone else is out for lunch.

    And in this case, the video may as well not even exist if it's only 90 seconds long since affirmative consent is an ongoing process and the process surely didn't take 90 seconds. If the video doesn't show the whole act, it's pretty much useless. Except to ID some of the parties involved.

    Just because the police didn't charge anyone doesn't mean no crime was committed. I'm not the one making assumptions, we don't know what happened, nor likely do the police, which means they CAN'T act. The university and the police don't have to have the same burden of proof standards nor should they. The school doesn't have to have proof beyond a reasonable doubt to flunk a kid for cheating on a test or to ban a guy from the women's dorms if he's suspected of stalking. I'm not assuming anything happened and legally the police cannot either but the University can. Going to school there and partaking in their activities isn't a constitutional right, it's a privilege that can be revoked upon their discretion. If they think there is reasonable enough suspicion of improper conduct they have a right to act in the best interest of the community, the other students and their brand. The university has bungled this and just about everything else, but they do not have to act with the same standards as law enforcement.

    First, I'm guessing you have not seen this video. Second, no video evidence of rape does not mean the absence of rape. I'm not saying it wasn't all on the up and up, but you're making assumptions likely based on hearsay from parties with a vested interest in the outcome.

    I'm hoping we see Berrios at the MLB level. However after Neil Allen's fairly scathing assessment of the organization's lack of vision and in particular their lack of enforcement of the young guys commanding their pitches, I think we may see a lot of pitchers go back a level and get remedial work. I hope it doesn't happen, but I won't be shocked if we actually see a couple of the guys in AA we were hoping to see soon actually go back to get extra attention with the instructors in Ft Myers. If the front office didn't take Allen's organizational denouncement and the pitching plan he created as a result seriously, I just can't see any other reason that they would have retained him.

    If Falvey is putting his rotation together based on his experiences in Cleveland, one would have to think May will be in the rotation and Hughes in the pen. Cleveland appears to value velocity and an assortment of pitches from it's starters; most of them have an average velocity over 92MPH and/or regularly use four different pitches. Hughes 89 MPH FB and three pitch repertoire doesn't look like what Cleveland does. On the other hand May can meet both of those criteria.

    That's true, but that's no different than with free agency. At least now the top 10 players from Cuba can't all go to the Dodgers because they won't have the cap room.

    A high tide floats all boats. The MLBPA wants any and all contracts to be high as it always helps the players when negotiating new deals via free agency or likely in this case arbitration. Except for those 25-year-old scrubs down in A ball with a wife and young child who likely will never get to the MLB. Screw those guys, they should be happy to play for way less than minimum wage. No need to try to help them with the new CBA.

    I don't think I care for that package nearly as much as any rumored Dodger package. I'm not big on Weaver, he looks like a back of the rotation guy at best. He's a very slight right hander with a 91-92 MPH fastball and doesn't have a breaking pitch. He belongs in the NL.

    I'm glad the Twins are more active in the DR and Venezuela the last 5-6 years but that was at least a decade too late. Where were they in the late 80's and 90's when the league first started bursting with Latin talent? I'm also glad the Twins have signed some high upside international guys recently but we can't pretend that they are doing all that they can when half of the league was blowing past their draft allotment and made raids on the market. For a team that has been a bottom feeder the last half decade, they should have been doing everything they could to get prospects including going over budget, they absolutely did not do everything they could. That's history now though, the team has new leadership and hopefully less restrictions. We don't need to dwell on past failures if they actively try to rectify them, it doesn't mean we can't acknowledge that these areas used to be past failures though.

    Nice research. Those results are about what I would have expected. There seemed to be a shift in philosophy around 2010-11, specifically they tended to draft "safe" picks early, mostly college pitchers. Seth's results above certainly look like a high floor/low ceiling approach by the Twins.

    I also hope they aren't still making decisions first and foremost based on attendance/fan support.

    Giving away Santiago and taking back Kazmir or McCarthy would be a push as far as rotation spots go in 2017. I'm not sure if the Twins would be willing take on more money or if the Dodgers even actually care to shave payroll. I'd move both Santiago and Santana if feasible. I'd be offering Santana up to any clubs who have asked about Quintana or Archer but are too squeamish about the asking prices. Which should be every team that has asked about Quintana and Archer.

    I do. I thought the Dodgers were going to lose both of those guys. It makes a ton of sense from both the Twins and Dodgers perspectives to wait for a Dozier trade until these two were sorted out. Seeing it laid out like this makes it look kind of obvious too that these deals likely would have always had to have been figured out first.

    Or With the Kenly Jansen deal and the rumored Justin Turner contract, I wonder if it's possible the Twins have already agreed to take back a less than desirable contract from the Dodgers, Scott Kazmir or Brandon McCarthy perhaps? The contracts are ugly but the Twins could probably put either guy to use. What if any trade holdup wasn't about prospects, but was actually contingent on Dodgers re-signing their guys. Perhaps the Twins said they would take on more money but wanted better prospects in return, something the Dodgers would only go for if they signed their two guys back.
