  1. No. Defense isn't the issue, offense is. If this team goes back to the Pedro Florimon era of just putting the best defensive player at SS, offense be damned, then they aren't playing for anything anyway. Might as well cut payroll to 70M and start over as you're not a serious contender.
  2. Simply avoiding two of those players gets you Justin Turner instead, avoid all three and Rhys Hoskins could be here. Yeah, ownership screwed everyone over this year, but the front office is the area that seems obsessed with quantity vets over A quality vet.
  3. I would not. Hard to see either being able to go more than 4 innings without offseason build up, and with those fewer innings and them no longer in the pen, that would tax the remaining relievers even further. I want the Twins to win, but I wrote of a championship when they failed to get another top of the rotation arm. They might still be respectable enough to make a run to the playoffs (but not in the playoffs), but if not, hopefully it leads to big changes in coaching, player acquisition and the stupid take-two-strikes-before-swinging philosophy.
  4. David Andrew McCarty (born November 23, 1969) is an American former first baseman and outfielder in Major League Baseball. From 1993 through 2005, McCarty played with the Minnesota Twins (1993–1995), San Francisco Giants (1995–1996), Seattle Mariners (1998), Kansas City Royals (2000–2002), Tampa Bay Devil Rays (2002), Oakland Athletics (2003) and Boston Red Sox (2003–2005). He batted right-handed and threw left-handed. Dave McCarty passed of a cardiac event on April 19, 2024. He was 54 years old. View full player

  6. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/drake-maye-is-off-the-board-for-team-specific-bets-at-draftkings This is interesting, the bets associated with Drake Maye on Draft Kings have greatly been eliminated. You no longer can bet on Maye to got a specific team, though this article suggests you can do so with the other QBs. PFT also says this: DraftKings has taken Maye off the board for any team-specific picks. He’s still an option for wagers tied to draft position — No. 2, No. 3, and No. 5, most notably. So why can you no longer bet on Maye to go No. 4? Does that suggest that whatever inside info Draft Kings has indicates their belief that AZ at No. 4 is planning on trading the pick and that's where Maye is expected to go? I'm not a great sportsbook mind but this all seems a bit peculiar.
  7. Yeah, that's winning the team so many ballgames in recent years. It's frustrating. This 'vet leadership' should be able to filled by coaches and advisors, who the team can pay exponentially less. Yes, even less than league minimum vets get paid.
  8. The Twins probably should have moved Larnach for someone more useful a couple years ago when he had value, so I'm up for giving him one more audition to see if anything can be recouped, but I agree with this. Draft position should have little to do with the callup hierarchy. It should be next to meaningless in terms of prospect evaluations a couple of years after the player is in pro ball.
  9. Also, while new Twins Santana and Margot have reasonable strikeout numbers (and terrible numbers everywhere else) they have career high strikeout numbers. This isn't a coincidence, the Twins are manufacturing a method that makes EVERYONE strikeout more than they should.

  12. Larnach's monthly splits each year are all over the place. He tends to find one good month to perform than tank the rest. It would be nice if he popped right out of the gate and then they can move him when the other bats come back or someone like E-Rod demands a callup.
  13. Outside of the Correa/Donaldson types, I haven't been a fan of the established offensive players they acquire anyway. The difference in production between third tier free agents or trade targets and the internal options tends to be minimal at best and then you lose all flexibility.
  14. This might be snark, but I'm all for it. Larnach struggles? Go to E-Rod, Keirsey, Williams, Prato, Helman. You can do this with Wallner and Julien and Miranda if needed, you don't paint yourself into a corner. You can't do it with Margot and Santana; you're stuck with them.
  15. Right, see Andrew Stevenson who gat 40 PA last year when Martin or Keirsey couldn't have possibly been any worse.
  16. Nothing wrong, but who's getting the boot in St. Paul? Not sure that I see a hitter there that I'd want to replace with Kemp. Tanner Morris I suppose? It's not a big deal, but this signing should be pointless. If the team gets to the point where they actually need someone like Kemp, there's zero reason why you wouldn't just call up Prato/Williams/Helman or any of the other similar players instead.
  17. Who's everyone? Pretty sure everyone wanted to add to the top of the rotation making Paddock the fifth starter. I can't imagine anything in the offseason worked out the way anyone wanted it to other than Jim Pohlad.
  18. Oddsmakers say McCarthy, but I agree with you. If there's a wink wink deal in place, it seems most likely to be with New England.
  19. This is starting to make a fantastic monument. I think Target Field needs a new Mt. Rushmore style statue for this. Maybe put it in the men's room.
  20. Yeah, terrible. And Santana currently trailing him by .276 points in OPS. But potato patato, I think the lesson here is to never sign this type of one year bounce-back player. Like never, ever, ever again, even once.
  21. Maybe Buxton 8th. Santana is pushing Tommy Herr for worst Twin of all time.
  22. Buxton used to do well when he was demoted to the bottom of the lineup. I vote for that. Even if it doesn't fix anything.
  23. If he fixes it he can be a starter. Lots of guys are able to only minimalize it though and be decent relievers. Duran is clearly on a different level but his location isn't exactly spot on. Trevor May was able to minimize it in the pen. Guys like Josh Hader, Alexis Diaz and Devin Williams aren't exactly in firm control of their stuff.
  24. Back from dinner. Completely shocked Jackson Holliday didn't hit his first MLB HR off the Twins yet. No way he waits until the third game.
  25. Vazquez is even worse than last year? Why isn't Camargo getting a shot?
