  1. Jay had a great start tonight!! 6 1/3 ip 5 hits 0 runs 2 walks 7 k's. He may be a bit up and down (it's to be expected), but he could be special as a starter if the Twins are patient with Jay.
  2. I don't know anything about Fernando Romero. Is he a starting pitching prospect or a relief pitching prospect. All I have heard about Romero is the velocity of his fastball. Thanks.
  3. I think Berrios might actually surprise most experts and be better than originally thought. The fact that he battled with the 5 walks (and questionable strike zone as well) and won the game only giving up 3 hits and 2 runs is impressive for someone as green at the Major League level as Berrios. His high fastball impressed me last start. For a pitch most experts claim as straight it sure had a lot of movement on it, and made a few Astros look foolish chasing it. Above all else Berrios has this inner drive to be better, he doesn't appear to settle, and I like that for a young talent from the minors. As long as he keeps himself humbled and driven (and barring career ending injuries) I think we have a keeper in our rotation.
  4. I might be wrong, but didn't Thorpe also have a developing slider and curve that might have been even better than Gonsalves' curve and slider?
  5. I am now curious as to what the Twins do with Meyer. I hope he goes back to starting in Rochester so he can try to establish himself as a starting pitcher. I now don't know if the Twins see a future with Meyer in the Twins rotation with Duffey and Berrios having more success thus far. Sad it doesn't seem to be working out for Meyer, but if he keeps rolling in the minors he might be a trade chip as the Twins don't trust Meyer in the rotation and the bullpen.
  6. For sure Gonsalves and Stewart need to move up to Chattanooga. I mean it is a transition from A+ ball to AA ball. If both move up now, the easier it will be for them next season and maybe make some September call up starts in 2017 and be able to compete for a rotation spot in 2018. As for Lewis Thorpe, so glad to hear he is progressing well. No need to rush Thorpe along too fast, if the Twins take the right approach I feel Thorpe will regain his status as a potential top of the rotation type starter.
  7. Nolasco needs to be traded asap. He is already reverting to the Nolasco of old. That would open a spot for two of our young pitchers (more than likely Duffey and Berrios) and then we go forward from there.
  8. We finally get to see Meyer start tonight. It'd be interesting if Meyer does well since Duffey and Berrios both have had solid starts this last time out.
  9. I get it, but in short Gonsalves and Stewart are far better than Eades. Eades had a 3.11 ERA in 20 starts in Ft Meyers last season, in 20 starts Gonsalves has an ERA around 2. Just saying Gonsalves for sure should already be in AA.
  10. Demote Eades to Ft Meyers and promote Gonsalves to Chattanooga problem solved.
  11. Or the Twins promote the wrong pitchers. For example Ryan Eades has no business being in AA over Gonsalves and Stewart. Eades career ERA is 4.40ish, how is that better than Gonsalves or Stewart? Gonsalves and Stewart have a future with the Twins, Eades (who was drafted same year as Stewart and Gonsalves) is nothing more than an organizational arm.
  12. Good game #2 for Berrios. Not perfect, but even with still having a little bit of trouble with control, Berrios did what he had to. He'll get better with every start. For a 21 year old he has done well, I mean he has struck out 13 in 9 1/3 innings. The kid belongs, that is what is important right now.
  13. Good to hear Thorpe is back on the mound. Before he had Tommy John surgery I felt he'd be better than Gonsalves and Stewart.
  14. I'm still okay starting Meyer. I feel this is the season Meyer actually "gets it", so if there is a chance to start Meyer you should. I won't be too upset if Meyer can't make it. We still have Berrios, Duffey, Gonsalves, Stewart, Jay, and Thorpe. So I'm sure at least one of these pitchers will make it and be good. If Meyer continues to struggle, he'll just have more time in AAA to figure it out.
  15. Looks like the Twins are having an open audition for a rotation spot and who ever pitches best between Berrios, Duffey, and Meyer gets the spot. If all three pitch poorly Milone will get his spot back.
  16. Those are some awesome 11 year old arms...ha ha. I kid...
  17. I think that had a bit to do with it. His first start this season for Rochester was in some really cold conditions and might have contributed to Berrios' 4 walks that night. Other than that start I think most if not all his starts were in nicer conditions.
  18. He'll be fine. When he was interviewed after the game you could tell he has "it". Now that his debut is over he can really go to work. Berrios has some filthy stuff and once he calms down and gets locked in look out.
  19. 4 starts apiece this season for both Gonsalves and Stewart. But both pitched so much in Ft Meyers last year there is little to see IMO. Both have improved and done what is asked. My problem with Eades in AA and not Stewart or Gonsalves is Eades during his minor league career has never been remotely as good as Gonsalves and Stewart. If Eades was better I can accept that better but he is not.
  20. I am warming up to Park. At first I was skeptical as he was touted as a power hitter but from arguably a weaker pro league in South Korea. He started out slow, but man he is coming on. Both Park and Sano might be two really dangerous hitters and help turn around the offense.
  21. Also with Jay's height and stature similar to Jose Berrios, and this being his first legitimate season as a starter he (and Lewis Thorpe) will be monitored very closely on innings this year.
  22. This is why I feel Jay is going to spend most if not all his time this season in Ft Meyers. It is a transition from closer to starter. I don't think we will really see progress with Jay until next year.
  23. My thought is because many might assume after a lackluster performance that he will be immediately sent back down since this is the Twins have that reputation.
  24. They both should be up now. And Ryan Eades needs to be demoted back to Ft Meyers, there is NO way Eades should be in Chattanooga over Gonsalves and Stewart, plus there should be an open spot since Brett Lee was let go. Insert Gonsalves and Stewart.
  25. I think getting his first start out of the way was beneficial for Berrios. Now he can calm down and make the nessisary adjustments. I hope he sticks as it is obvious he has big league stuff, for him to go back to Rochester will do him no good really as he now needs to be challenged at the highest level.
