  1. Romero has pitched about half the innings Gonsalves has. I believe in fact his 77 innings pitched is a career high for him with him literally out for almost two seasons. But his stuff sounds down right over powering. Had Romero not had TJ and knee surgery he might be an even better prospect, but with his injuries his development has been delayed. I feel the more he can work on getting his pitches better and attacking the batter more the better he will be. We will have to see how next year stacks up, I'm hoping he's up for the challenge.
  2. Agreed! As of now IMO, Romero has a higher ceiling than Gonsalves or even Jose Berrios at this point. I believe as long as health isn't an issue Romero could be a bonafide ace. His stuff is amazing, plus the command and control are already great. I look forward to see how much progress he makes next year.
  3. I really can't wait to see what Gonsalves can do in the majors. I doubt we will see him this year, but I expect we will see him at sometime next year. Honestly, judging by his rapid adaptation from A+ to AA ball (he has transitioned way better than even Jose Berrios did in 2014), I think Gonsalves will have some rough times adjusting, but he has everything going for him to adjust quicker. I mean to be fair Berrios even in the minors could be homer prone if he didn't have command of his pitches. Gonsalves? His career high for homers given up in a season is 4(!). Shoot in his first 3 starts in Ft Myers he gave up 2 of his 3 homers this season. Plus Gonsalves strikes opponents out just as well as Berrios.
  4. From everything I have heard about Romero I have to believe that based on potential Romero is our top pitching prospect. All he needs is to improve his secondary pitches and continue to learn how to pitch (keep in mind he only has like 160 or so career innings pitched). He sounds like a completely over powering pitcher with his upper 90's fastball, upper 80's to low 90's breaking ball and an improving change up.
  5. Agreed. Gonsalves should finish this season in Chattanooga. Now when next year comes around we will have to see how he pitches in spring training. If he shows even better control then yeah, he should start the year in Rochester. Just my $0.02...
  6. I really think there's something special with Gonsalves. He should be going through some "growing pains" in AA but with a 2.79 ERA and a K rate of 10 k per 9 that tells me he transitioned quite well and maybe is more than what scouts originally thought. Also Gonsalves does not give up very many home runs or hits for that matter. I look forward to see him up sometime in 2017, and by then I'd assume he will have worked more on his control as well.
  7. Nice trade. I know I don't want to jump to any conclusions or simply give Antony the job but he has made some good trades and this one I feel is great. Giving up Nolasco and Meyer for a solid proven MLB starter in Santiago is a great trade. Heck moving Nolasco for an even better pitcher is a feat in and of its self.
  8. Well, I mean he did give up a double and 3 hits and 3 runs in the first inning. Thats what I meant. But Berrios impressed me.
  9. Very encouraging start for Berrios. Yes, he got hit hard in the 1st inning but after that gave up 1 hit in his final 5 innings plus no runs. I also like that he showed better control with 0 walks in his 6 innings of work.
  10. If he is more consistent with better control I'd think it would have to be a real possibility. Gonsalves doesn't seem to be struggling terribly like other prospects do when they transition from A+ ball to AA ball. Plus it looks like Fernando Romero might be ready to start in AA next year. So Romero can take Gonsalves' vacated rotation spot in Chattanooga. Just my opinion.
  11. Are the Twins still trying to have Kohl Stewart be a sinker ball pitcher still. Honestly I can't foresee Stewart being really good with his k rate being so bad here in Chattanooga. I have herd the past few years the Twins have been insistent that Stewart use his low 90's sinker as his out pitch. To me, I thought when Stewart was drafted he was drafted to be a power pitcher, not a sinker pitcher more reliant on his defense making plays rather than getting a k when needed. I don't really see Stewart being a top of the rotation guy when he has a hard time keeping his k rate at a respectable level, plus while he has slightly better control than Stephen Gonsalves his walk rate isn't that much better than Gonsalves rate. I just wish I could see the Kohl Stewart we drafted as the 4th pick of the 2013 draft.
  12. Honestly though, watching Berrios' development reminds me how the Twins handled Matt Garza in 2007. That spring training in '07 Garza clearly out performed Carlos Silva, a #5 type starter who had a horrendous spring training, yet won the #5 spot instead of Garza. The Twins threw out the same bogus quotes on what Garza needed to improve on and quite frankly I believe it was the Twins who ruined Garza, not the other way around. The Twins were more than happy to paint Garza as a cancer, and yet not help develop him even though at that time Garza's ceiling in '07 by most MLB scouts was that of an ace. I just see right now the Twins screwing over Berrios with these dumb expectations of him. I just hope the Twins don't ruin Berrios' personality, because I like Berrios not just for his talent alone, but for his competitive nature, humility, and work ethic.
  13. That might be the funniest things I've read in a while. I get the sarcasm...just made me laugh.
  14. Well, Berrios didn't pitch well enough for a promotion last night. He had one of those "big innings" with resulted in 3 runs, 2 hits, and 2 walks. Just stating the company line here.
  15. I guess the bigger question about Lachlan Wells is, will Wells be a Tommy Milone clone or a Lewis Thorpe clone. Wells has done great so far in A ball, but I have a hard time being over excited in him as a prospect with reports of his lack size.
  16. Nice start for Wells. He seems like an interesting prospect. Doesn't seem tall or big with an upper 80's to low 90's fastball, good change, and a decent curve. He is only 19, so I think he could improve some over the next few years. I just wonder how much of a ceiling he realistically has. A 1.57 ERA is impressive and his first 6 starts in Ceder Rapids look much better than Thorpe's first 6 starts in Ceder Rapids in 2014.
  17. I'm guessing Quade and Steil are being fed this line by the Twins FO. It seems to me Quade believes that Berrios should be up now but this is what excuse the Twins give him why they won't call up Berrios.
  18. I know in '07 the Twins pulled some of the same crap on Matt Garza that they are doing to Jose Berrios now. Next we will hear that Berrios has morphed into a club house cancer and needs to be moved. BTW, if this was Kohl Stewart pitching not Jose Berrios the Twins would be all to happy to let Stewart take his lumps even though he will never put up the k numbers Berrios will. The Twins have been super aggressive in promoting Stewart, while Berrios pushed his way up to AAA ball the Twins have been over conservative in his development from AAA to the majors. Also, how is it that Tyler Duffey can fail time and again with no action taken against him yet Berrios is given 4 starts and fails and gets BANISHED to AAA with no time table for his permanent return?
  19. http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/sports/baseball/2016/07/22/berrios-continues-show-wings-hes-show-worthy/87458062/ It's just my opinion this is what the Twins think, but from this article it almost sounds like every pitch Berrios throws needs to be perfect in order for him to be promoted. I hope I am wrong, but with this organization I can see the Twins holding Berrios back especially since his first stint didn't go so well.
  20. Last I read even after his last great start the Twins FO is still not impressed with Berrios as they keep grasping for straws to why he is not up yet. Berrios should have been up a week ago to all but cement his place in the 2017 rotation. At this rate he won't be on the team for good until May of 2017, as I am doubting the Twins will put him on the opening day roster. I don't get why it is taking so long to bring Berrios back. It's pathetic and makes the Twins FO look like imbeciles for holding Berrios out so long and giving him a mere 4 start audition. Doesn't seem the Twins view him in the same light as Sano or Buxton.
  21. Wow, Gonsalves just keeps on rolling. His ERA now is 2.97 (I think) in AA ball. That is very impressive considering this is only his 5th start in Chattanooga. And now he is really cutting down on his walks. It will be interesting to see where he starts next year, especially if he keeps pitching like this. To pitch this well so soon coming from advanced A ball AND increase the k/9 inning rate is certainly impressive. If he keeps this up, we may see him sooner than Kohl Stewart. And who would have thought that.
  22. I'm happy that Jim Pohlad actually fired Ryan. Honestly the results of Terry Ryan's work since coming back has been poor. It's time for a fresh new voice to take control. As far as Rob Antony, I sure hopes Pohlad has Antony's job as a trial run as GM. If Antony's performance is worthy of him being the GM, then great he can stay. If Antony fails like Bill Smith or Terry Ryan part 2 then at the end of the year he needs to be canned. Problem is, even if the Twins let go of Rob Antony who's to say the Twins FO won't do something dumb like hiring former manager Ron Gardenhire as GM?
  23. It's time to bring up Berrios. By pitching as well as he did last night he proved the start before was more or less a fluke. I mean it is the second half of the season and the Twins aren't in any play-off race, so why not let the youngster go? Also, another solid start for Fernando Romero. He has now started 5 games a piece for Ceder Rapids and Ft Myers and has very similar stat lines in terms of innings pitched, walks, and strike outs. His ERA is a little higher in Ft Myers but not by too much (2.17 Ft Myers, 1.93 Ceder Rapids), and his opponents batting average against and hits are a little higher in Ft Myers, but both are still real good. Provided Romero stays healthy and gets a chance to perfect his craft, I think he could be real good. Romero has been a really good story line in the Minors this year.
  24. Wells seems like a very intreguing prospect, especially because he has gotten bigger and stronger this year. Wells sounds like Lewis Thorpe minus a few mph on the fastball, no slider, but with better command and control of his pitches (I think he has 4 walks in 21 innings). Wells at any rate is impressive with his 1.27 ERA in A ball all at the age of 19. It's good to see a possibly good pitching prospect in A ball since the rest of the real good starting pitching prospects are in A+ ball through AAA ball.
