  1. They're different in that May has more upside and can go to the bullpen if needed. But they're similar in that the Twins just need to see what they have with both of them and let them finish out the year in the rotation.
  2. I hope the Twins are smart enough to do this with him (and Milone) and just let them keep taking their lumps. The time is now to find out if they're part of the future.
  3. I have MLB.TV, and they have the Cleveland feed available. It's blacked out in Minnesota still, but I get around it with a VPN.
  4. Greatest picture of Tom Kelly, ever.
  5. Looks like they deleted the tweet. Good move. That was about as shameless as it gets. The Twins (and probably other MLB teams) have a real problem being tone deaf and not understanding how bad money grabs like that look to fans.

    Why I Liked Bill Smith

I was ready to tear my hair out by the end of his tenure, but I agree that it was really refreshing to have a GM who was aggressive once in a while. The Delmon trade did look OK on paper, and the Johan trade didn't look that bad either even if we could've gotten more out of the Yankees or Red Sox. He signed Sano, too. I doubt TR would've made that move. It was the trades he made later plus the Nishioka signing that made it all go up in flames, and he deserved to lose his job for it. I'm lukewarm on TR at this point, and it would've been nice to have them go outside the org. for Smith's replacement.
  7. Twins radio has been awful ever since they left WCCO. I remember driving in downtown Minneapolis all the time and still getting a bad signal from 1500. KTWIN isn't any better. I live out in the sticks a few hours from the metro and most of the affiliates have horrible reception too.
  8. I don't even catch every televised game, but I've heard these gems so far this year: Sam Fuls Will Smith (when talking about Wil Myers) Desmond Jenkins Chris Corbello Bert has never been good, but he's just on autopilot now.
  9. DickNBert have been going full-force with that narrative during Punto's at-bats. Punto put a spell on the entire organization.
  10. It bums me out what happened with Worley. He seemed like he could settle in as a solid No. 3 or 4 starter and be a fun personality to boot. I hope he makes it through waivers as I still think he has some (slim) upside. Even if it was smoke and mirrors he had two pretty good seasons with the Phillies. It's really odd how it blew up so completely in the span of a year. I wonder if he ever got right after having the bone chips removed.
  11. DickNBert seem under-represented here too.
  12. This is long overdue. He was a favorite of mine growing up and a hell of a player. I was upset when he left but I never blamed him. He was a great player on a terrible team. Who wouldn't want to leave? And yes he was kind of a tool, yes he went to the Yankees, but seriously...the fans who are still holding a grudge need to get over it. There are hundreds of comments on the Twins facebook page from people furious over his election. It's embarrassing.
  13. I hope they put the seats up for auction once the Vikings are done. I'd love to get my hands on one, and they should be cheap with how many there are.
  14. Lynn was a 1st rounder in 2008.
  15. As someone already mentioned, the Cardinals' success in the late rounds of the draft is uncanny. Look: Matt Carpenter 13th round Allen Craig 8th round Matt Adams 23rd round Jaime Garcia 22nd round Trevor Rosenthal 21st round Yadier Molina 4th round Kevin Siegrist 41st round Seth Maness 11th round They've also had their fair share of high draft picks and savvy FA signings, but that's a good chunk of their core that they picked up after the first three rounds of the draft. If you look at the Twins' last decade of drafts who have they gotten after the third round that's contributing right now? Brian Dozier (8th), Chris Herrmann (6th), and Michael Tonkin (30th).
  16. Watching the Marlins play the Astros > Watching the Twins play the Yankees
  17. I enjoy most of the names mentioned here, but I'll throw out the two guys who cover the Twins for the Associated Press, too: Dave Campbell and Jon Krawczynski. You probably never see their stories on the Strib or PP sites, but they're great on twitter, and they both cover all four Minnesota teams.
  18. Hmm, you could be right. I forgot about Glynn. I hope their plan is to gradually turn over the staff with the core of Glynn, Steinbach, Brunansky, and Cuellar. I just have a really bad feeling it would be Ullger, unless he gets canned too (which he should).
  19. I'm all for dumping Gardenhire, but with the way the Twins run things you just KNOW that a Gardenhire firing will lead to a Scott Ullger hiring.
  20. A co-worker pointed this out to me several years ago and it has since driven me crazy. Bert will say "right there" in almost every sentence. Like "That was a good slider right there" or "He goes inside right there for the strikeout." It's like noticing every time somebody says "um" when they're talking. I can't not notice it now!
  21. Pat Meares. My formative years were spent following the mid 90s Twins, and Meares kind of represented to me how futile those teams were. More recently...Carl Pavano. Loved the mustache and his gritty workhorse style. Too bad his arm fell off.
  22. I'd be happy if he would just stop reading the media guide word-for-word on every player.
  23. The whole Kevin Slowey thing was bizarre. DickNBert were slamming Slowey for weeks on broadcasts, when Slowey wasn't even playing. There was an all-out smear campaign against Slowey by the entire Twins organization. I've never seen them so on-message against any one player before.
  24. I doubt anyone involved with the team privately thinks they'll be any good.
  25. The best thing Rob Wilfong did for the Twins was to help them net Tom Brunansky.
