  1. Would it be valid for me to say (as a critique) that Minnesota Somalis have been (and are being) actively recruited by ISIS? https://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/21/us/6-somali-americans-arrested-in-isis-recruiting-case.html It should be a two way street. She can say that if she wants and I have no problem with it so long as she can handle the criticism one could easily dole out about her community. The problem I have is I can't respond in kind with something (above) that is entirely factual and as you stated earlier "uniquely dangerous" Agree? Disagree?
  2. OK thanks for not insulting me. You are correct. My grandparents and most everyone's grandparents around here did not get that kind of benefits package. They also had quotas working against them. That was just the way it was and yet here we are.....proof that if you assimilate and work for it you can achieve it.
  3. When he said "uniquely dangerous" what did you think he meant. Honestly. If you are going to say Buddhism and Islam are transposable terms you really are going to have to develop that. There seems to be a want for people to say..... "All religion is the same" Where in the Buddhist doctrine does it call for a death sentence for those who leave Buddhism? Do Buddhists (or Christians) want to burn cartoonists at the stake for unflattering depictions of their deity? Where is the George Carlin in Islam ripping the church? If he were a Muslim he'd have been beheaded. Muslims would admit this. Sharia Law is their choice and that is fine Just don't impose that on me. I am a free man and I reject it. Maybe you want people's hands chopped off for stealing a candy bar (and it's a beautiful thing if you support that). I am a little more easy going. Just sayin
  4. Please feel free to give your historical (or hysterical) perspective on this matter.
  5. That most certainly isn't the case here. Several pages ago I commented that one trait I liked about Israel is that they aren't targeting American citizens. This was in the midst of a discussion that seemed to question why we 1) support Israel and 2) Israel's very existence.
  6. Actually, I held you to the word assimilation after you "attempted" to hold me to it when I deflated your "how are they different from say Mormons" statement. That is weak fluff and I dismantled it in post 1182 and 1183. You just keep running misdirection because I hit one of your fastballs out of the park. Happy St Patrick's Day and shame on you for lumping your German grandparents with Muslim interlopers
  7. What the heck are you saying? It has to be one or the other??? It is BOTH and then some. And undocumented immigrants get driver's licenses, free hospital visits (thanks to medicare) and many don't pay taxes. With regard to Somalian refugees they get quite the start up package
  8. I've moved on, try to keep up. I am guessing your answer to my question is NO. But keep fixating on the semantics surrounding the word assimilation. One unique ability undocumented immigrants and refugees have is to get those benefits. Your German grandparents didn't have such luxuries. Nor did my Italian grandfather who emigrated at the turn of the century shortly before quotas were put on eastern European and southern Europeans. For you to liken your grandparents to say Somalian refugees who are getting all sorts of handouts is disgusting. You should rethink that
  9. I very strongly doubt your grandparents came here and lived off the dole
  10. Yes, white males are responsible for more mass shootings but it's disproportionate. https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2017/10/what-the-white-mass-shooter-myth-gets-right-and-wrong-about-killers-demographics.html Funny one can make a blanket statement about white makes doing all the mass shootings. Make a statement about Muslim groups bombing public places around the world and watch all the SJWs pop up.
  11. White conservative males are murdering people by the dozens. When and where does this occur in America?
  12. Look man. You can talk to yourself if you want. You want to go with this "poorly articulated" stuff again? Honestly man. How about ask for clarification for once before you jump all over a post? I'm done with you unless you have a rebuttal for 1182 or 1183. I said they don't assimilate. YOu said others don't either and that you don't see how they are any different other groups. I responded by showing you how they are different (as if I need to actually explain it to you). Enough. Have a beer or something.
  13. We aren't going to do this. . Comment on my last two posts rather than harping on an earlier post that has since been clarified.
  14. In addition to that, Mormons have an almost patriotic view of their role in American society: https://mormonbeliefs.org/2017/11/10/patriotism-service-sacrifice/ So I don't get what you are talking about Leviathan
  15. Oh OK. Thanks for clarifying I merely mentioned Matthews Jr. as seeing the contract as sort of similar and spycake offered his opinion. Happy St. Patrick's Day and may your shin guards always be promptly removed
  16. I don't see Mormons or any other "insular sect" of any religion declaring Jihad while mass emigrating around the world. It's as simple as that.
  17. People who read this page obviously have an interest in who signs for what and where so I have no idea what you are trying to say. I hadn't seen anyone post anything about Hicks' back injury so I did and it serves to illustrate the reasons why I don't think it was a good signing. Not sure what is up with the snippy, laconic posts that fall short of actually being developed.
  18. Please develop your thought. Not sure what you are doing with these little drive by posts.
  19. It's very easy to look at ratio numbers or isolate on a couple of stats. It is quite another when you step back and look at the .236 lifetime average and the fact that he never had over 381 late appearances in a season until last year. Now he has a recurring back issue that will keep him out of the lineup on opening day. Not sure where the confidence in Hicks comes from because I have no idea where he is headed these next couple of years
  20. I would say some of the most honest appraisals I have heard and read about Islam have come from Sam Harris and Douglas Murray. I cannot say they shaped by opinion, but rather affirmed it. My curiousity and concerns about the Middle East began in the 1970s when I was a paperboy, The Camp David peace treaty, the Iran hostage situation, Libya, etc.....all of really was very stunning to me. I clipped out news articles from the Times and Newsweek and summarized them for my social studies teacher Mr. Poznick. What struck me was how tribal, oppressive, violent and backward their leaders were. As Americans, we don't need to inherit the blame for that.
  21. Ok, but again....what can we do now? Israel has its state and it has persevered against heavy odds They also aren't showing up all over globe emigrating to other nations (while not even attempting to assimilate). The extreme Islamic sects have literally rendered the peaceful ones irrelevant. Say what you will about Israel, Catholics, "right wing Christianity" or any religion for that matter. Islam presents problems for the Western World. If you want to reject that notion then go ahead and keep trying to ignore it. What is the motive of these Islamists? Why are they emigrating to the US, Canada and European nations in large numbers only to not assimilate and keep to themselves? Seems to me their objective is to inhabit the entire world and outnumber over else.
  22. It reminds me of the Gary Matthews Jr. deal in some ways. Not exactly sure how one good year of production earns a guy that much. Hicks really is not an everyday player
  23. Your take in the bolded part is basically what the Yankees believe, but I don't think they are going to get as much as they now hope for. I am in complete agreement with you in the underlined.
  24. Care about what why? You're being snarky with me about them caring about my opinion being expressed on Twins Daily or are you saying they can absorb the contract?
  25. TAMPA, Fla. – Brett Gardner came back to the Yankees early in the offseason for a $2-million pay cut. At age 35 and coming off a down season, he could have been looking at a cut in playing time, too. But the growing concern that Aaron Hicks might have to start the season on the injured list because of a lower-back injury has Gardner back in two familiar places in a sizzling spring training: centerfield and the leadoff spot. I am saying it first right here. Hicks will not make it through the life of that contract. No way, no how
