  1. Quite frankly, I've never been a fan of these "prospect lists". You have some guys barely out of low-A, on the same list as guys in AAA. Baseball is such a volatile sport. In my mind, a player shouldn't even be considered a Top Prospect until they've had at least a season of AA under their belt, and the path to the Majors is clear. Unless their next stop is The Show, an 18 year old has WAY too much to prove before being considered top of anything.
  2. What's going up with Tanner English? Moving back down to A ball? He was in Rochester last year.
  3. Sorry, but I disagree. Liriano has has a couple solid season, but to say he is "average" is a stretch beyond imagination. For one, he's only reached 190 innings once in his career. Also take out the three anomaly seasons in Pittsburg, and his career ERA approaches 5.00. Considering that wherever Liriano has been, he's been traded for a bucket of balls, your argument about the "value" of a below average starter doesn't hold true. Liriano could have been developed into a dominant closer at some point, much more value than a starting pitcher who is both not durable, and not effective.
  4. Curious, how are we able to keep guys like Felix Jorge and Randy Rosario, and not lose them in the Rule 5 Draft? They have been in the minors for 5 years, and not on the 40 man roster.
  5. We can't let go of Haley, because we'll automatically go back to the team we got him from, correct? Doesn't he have to stay on the roster in order to keep him?
  6. I also like to look at career stats. Breslow has been pretty horrible for the better part of his career. Tonkin has been average, with flashes of brilliance, swing and miss stuff, and some upside. Winner, Tonkin. Sorry Breslow.
  7. Breslow has to go. He was a safety net signing, in the case our bullpen was a complete disaster. You can't expose Tonkin to waivers now, we need him long term. Breslow doesn't fit into the Twins long term plans.
  8. Sounds like a lot of optimism for an organization that has failed miserably to produce Major League pitchers. Hope for the best, I guess.
  9. I've said this before, and I'll say it again. Just because a pitcher can go 6-7 innings in a game, or 150-200 innings in a season, doesn't mean they should. I was a firm believe that Francisco Liriano should have been turned into a late inning reliever. He's had seasons of brilliance. Generally speaking though, Liriano has problems with batters the 2nd and 3rd time through a lineup. Hector Santiago is very similar. Yes, he has the endurance, but what good is endurance when you can't find the plate, or you're getting HAMMERED? Hector Santiago should be in the bullpen. He'd make an excellent late inning reliever. He's got good stuff, but that stuff is generally only good when the batter is getting one look at him. 2nd and 3rd looks are not to be desired. Move him to the pen, before he embarrasses himself like he has done in year's past.
  10. Very generous grades. Glass half full, if you ask me.
  11. How does Hector Santiago get a free rotation pass? He's horrible. He can't get deep into games. Never has, never will. We're talking about a guy who was traded for Nolasco. Should tell you something. He should be in the pen. His stuff works well there.
  12. Volquez, Morales, Vargas, and Davis are NOT long term players. They are at the point in their careers where they get 1 year deals, and often traded mid season to contenders. Gordon is past his prime. He will need to decide on whether or not to take less money to retire in Kansas City, or get more money and become one of those 1 year contract guys. I could see Gordon going to the As. He fits their business model.
  13. I don't understand the concept of trading Santana. Why the F*** would you sign him to begin with? How do you improve a team with subtraction? If the Twins trade Santana for anything OTHER than proven starting player, I will refuse to attend a game. You have a losing season, you sign a guy to help your club, then you have another losing season, he does well, and you trade him? What kind of idiotic logic is that?
  14. I want to know why we are having these discussions without considering Alex Meyer for the rotation. The Twins are RUINING Meyer. His numbers were solid as a starter in the minors, and he had upside. So what do the Twins do? Move him to the bullpen, where his numbers were horrendous as a reliever. Now, he's an afterthought?
  15. I'd like to see Joe Mauer retire from baseball, enroll at the U of M, and walk-on as the starting quarterback. It would be a nice sunset walk-off for Mauer.
  16. The reasoning behind the age drop for position players is simple. Players are demanding ridiculous contracts when they are past their prime. Teams aren't necessarily trying to build from within, as suggested by another user. Teams are simply finding that they can find players at league minimum, who can do the same job as players demanding $100-$200 million dollar contracts. It's insane what these players are askinh for now. Pitching is different, much harder to come by. Experience and age of pitchers tends to be more omitting. Age also proves durability. But, when it comes to position players, youth has the edge because it's cheaper, and gets the job done for more value.
  17. Han, normally I might agree with you. However, or starting pitching throws slow, not ideal for true bullpen help.
