  1. Interesting stat: Tonight, Sano surpassed the number of total bases he had all of last year.
  2. Really fun game to watch tonight. Nice win. Couldn't have gone anybody better elsewhere, either. KC, Angels, and Yankees all lost. Twins back holding the second Wild Card spot.
  3. That last Sano at bat almost made me cry it was so beautiful.
  4. Even if it's a tie game in the bottom of the 7th and I crank one off the wall and have a shot for a in-the-parker, I'm stopping at first if I'm Buxton. I'd fist pump and jump around like I just won the World Series....then untuck my jersey, turn my hat backwards, and start a slow trot around the warning track for high-fives.
  5. Glynn had to have thought he saw a bad throw, or anticipated them going to second, or something. No way he is expecting to win straight up on a good relay home.
  6. Interesting baserunning play there. On the bright side, Roasario is turning into a hitting machine.
  7. I just want to stick a fork in this team. I'm tired of the whole, "we're within shouting distance so we have a chance" bit. Every time it starts to look like they may actually have a chance, and play a rap contender, they lay a big embarrassing egg, and get slammed back into obscurity with extreme prejudice. If they can salvage a series win, you never know. But, I just don't see that happening. They'll be lucky to not get swept off the earth by 5+ runs a game against the Indians. They're just in another galaxy.
  8. That's what happens when have you have Buddy Boshers throwing high leverage innings in a playoff chase.
  9. I feel like a 600 foot home run from Encarnacion is inevitable tonight.
  10. Big hit there for Mr. Buxton. Good to see.
  11. The way this lineup is going right now is so fun to watch. Rosario, Kepler, Mauer, Polanco, and Dozier are all scorching hot at the same time. Could maybe even throw Buxton in there. We're running the bases fairly aggressively and well. Defense is very good. Bullpen has been lights out. The starters are keeping them in games. Can't really ask for more than what they're doing right now.
  12. I agree. I thought it was over, but if some things continue to happen they have a shot: 1). Obviously, Dozier mashing HRs every night is nice. When he's on, it makes the whole lineup better (they have to pitch him differently, along with Sano, rippling down to guys like Kepler, Mauer, Rosario getting better pitches). 2). Eddie Rosario is turning into a monster. It's something like .313/.365/.520 in his last 60 games. Swing rate on pitches out of the zone down 10% over that span (roughly 45% career average to 35%). He may be figuring something out. 3). Big Sexy chewing up innings is huuuuuge. 4). Polanco hitting well from the bottom of the order, basically in front of a scorching Dozier. Mejia's injury is a blow, he's been good. It would be nice to get Garver up here. But, those said, this team can win a whole lot of games in a short time if 1-4 continue.
  13. Independent League players on the big club tells you all you need to know about how awful this club has been.
  14. After this inning, I want to hear no more about the players being offended by trading guys away. What an embarrassing inning defensively.
  15. That's one of the worst losses of the year. Right when I was starting to think this team may be able to crawl back in it one more time.
  16. We could always play Buxton/Granite in L/R center and play a rover.
  17. "They never we're supposed to be here to bring with" is a self-fulfilling prophecy. They could've easily put together a pitching staff competently enough to where they would be in this thing. But, like always, it comes down to the FO being unwilling to take a chance in the offseason and spend a few million. It didn't take Ms. Cleo to see Hughes, Santiago, and the bullpen was going to blow up in their face. A numbers or casual amateurs on this site said it for months leading up to the season, Just another lost season for the fans and taxpayers who pour hard-earned money into the Pohlad mothballed coffers. Very disappointing.
  18. This is when JR goes on absolute tear and wins the NL Silver Slugger in 2018, right?
  19. This is a pipe dream. But, there may be a real opportunity here. Pitching: Move Santana, and roll with Berrios, Garcia, Mejia, Colon, Gibson (or Slegers, Gee, Gonsalves). In the 'pen, see what you can get for anyone (Kintzler, Rogers, Duffey, Belisle), and start churning up from AAA. Position: Try and trade Rosario, Dozier, and/or Mauer, and roll out an infield of Sano, Adrianza, Polanco, and Vargas, with Escobar as utility. Plug Granite in LF, and call up Garver for a bench bat (and emergency LF). Pick up one of the random starters and a bullpen arm or two heading into '18, and you're right back where you started. But, you're minor league system is better, and there is plenty of cash to extend guys like Sano or Kepler. Then, turn into the Astros in 2019/2020. Simple as that.
  20. I get that Seth can't write a two sentence article reflecting this if he wants to keep this gig. But: Guys, it's over. It's OK to let go. This team can't pitch. At all. They're not exactly murderer's row offensively, either. With Sano out of the lineup, they're flat-out bad. I haven't looked it up, but I have to think the team's chances of a playoff birth have fallen down around 10% or less. I think it's closer to zero considering how Cleveland and Kansas City have elevated their game over the past couple of weeks. This team needs to try and return some semblance of value from these veteran contracts that are set to expire in the next year or two. It's a huge mistake to let it ride, do nothing, and let people walk. We're not talking about Max Scherzer and Mike Trout, here. If Erv and Dozier were as good as we like to think, the team would win more games. Add the prospects you can, and sign some guys in the offseason.
  21. This spiraled out of control quickly. They were a half game out just a few days ago. This is why I preferred they sell. This was inevitable. Now they're just a losing team with a bunch of old soon-expiring contracts (Santana, Dozier, Garcia, Mauer, etc), out of which they didn't pull any residual value.
  22. The funniest part of the Not Top Ten clip is how annoyed the catcher looked that the pitcher went and flailed around on the infield.
