  1. "Jared Burton has an RSI value that's top 5 in the league, goes out there, spins it real well, but just doesn't get the results he deserves" - Rick Anderson, probably.
  2. "•Santana becomes a cross between Greg Gagne and Zoilo Versalles at Short" Hopefully more Gagne than Z, unless we're talking about his MVP season.
  3. I think a lot of the fans who don't appreciate Joe Mauer would like him more if he pulled more pranks and had alcoholic tendencies. I don't, however, think that he would be loved by a big majority of the fan base the way he is now (or how I percieve him to be). And that's not Joe Mauer.
  4. If you asked any Twins fan who they wanted at bat with the team trailing by a run, bottom of the ninth, 2 outs, man on second, you'd be hard pressed to give me a good argument for anyone not named Joe Mauer. Joe Mauer is going to return to Joe Mauer form. Hopefully we don't have to suffer through another season of fans booing Joe Mauer.
  5. MORE TWINS AND LOSSES! I don't expect the Twins to finish higher than 4th in the division, and I think they'll end up having a strong grasp on that #5 slot when all is said and done, but I still think this season is a success. Not as successful as I was hoping, but I like where things are going... I just wish they would have gotten going that direction sooner and with a little more agression.
  6. Great stuff here. I definitely don't think it's a smart move to question Joe Mauer's toughness. He's missed some time with injury, but up until bi-lateral leg weakness attacked in 2011, he had been remarkably healthy for a catcher, espcailly one who tore up his knee during his rookie season. I think people look for more from him because of his contract, and maybe rightfully so, but those dollars are spent. Imagine what those same fans would have been saying if Joe Mauer had left and gone elsewhere. I'm glad Joe is still with the ballclub, glad they ponied up the dollar bills, and I'm more than happy to get whatever return he produces on the field going forward, even if that includes more stints on the DL.
  7. When do you think Sano, and then Buxton will join the big league club? I agree that Joe Mauer will return to Joe Mauer with some regression for age.
  8. Sean Doolittle of the Oakland A's did a guest piece for ESPN and made up some Sabermetric stats for Oakland, including in his list were BDP (Beard Dependent pitching), WPA/3+C (win probablitly added with three plus catchers in the lineup) and frFSR (right field fan scouting report) along with others, You can check the article for the full list. What sort of tongue in cheek stats would the Twins have? LAR (Legs above replacement) If you have bi-lateral leg weakness, that's an automatic -2.0 on the LAR scale. HAH+ (Heart and Hustle plus) Adjusted to 100 for league average, above is better, below is worse. Gardy uses this stat to make his lineup. No heart, no hustle, no playing time. 2BB2 (Play second, bat second) The number one stat used to determine lineup construction on a day in, day out basis. _____________________________ Follow me, @BaseballPirate, on Twitter. 9. Lots of good questions in the comments tonight. I'm looking forward to downloading so I can listen tomorrow. One of these days I'm going to catch the live show so I can troll you two with questions again.
  10. Cody, taking a look at some of the guys in the minor leagues, and their current status on (or off) the 40-man roster, who are some names that I should be hoping to see up with the big league ball club before the season is over, as September call ups or otherwise?
  11. The Twins are moving in the right direction, yes. Future success, however, could still be a couple years away. The team may flirt with .500 next season, but unless Gibson becomes more consistent, Nolasco finds his form, and at least one of Alex Meyer or Trevor May reach their potential (and stop walking so many guys) 2015 isn't going to be a roaring success. Yes, it should be better to watch than this season, just as this season was better than last, but I think there's still a lot of work to be done. Sano and Buxton are still big question marks. The talent is there, just have to wait for it to show up. Like aging a fine wine, all we can do is wait.
  12. Joe Mauer puts ketchup on his eggs
  13. My cynicism aside, great article. Always neat to hear the stories behind the guys down in the minors, the coaches have stories to tell just as much as the players.
  14. Also, since this blog was about Joe Mauer aka pizza, maybe this is the appropriate time to ask about M & M's, not Mauer and Morneau, but the candy coated chocolates that melt in your mouth AND in your hand. Do you guys ever wish that the different color M&M's were different flavors? You know, like skittles, but flavors that taste good with chocolate?
  15. Another former player comes back into the fold. How very Twinsian.
  16. ... a bunch of my old blog posts just show up as an empty box with a tiny red x. Any ideas?
  17. Is there a way to add a signature type deal to the end of your blog posts without putting it in manually? Really neat if there's a way. What about linking directly from my outside blog to my TD blog. Like let's say I blog over at my independent site www.baseballtwins.com, is there a way to get those posts to automatically appear on my TD blog?
  18. They may take our Colabello, but they will never take our COW BELLS! Nice piece on a nice story. I, for one, hope we haven't seen the last of the Italian Hitman.
  19. There's a new fad going around MLB with funny signs trolling players. Hunter Pence has been trolled pretty hard by fans across the country, and the Astros mascott, Orbit, was giving it to J.P Arencibia pretty good when Tornoto was in town last week. My favorite was "J.P. Arencibia cried during the Notebook." That's prime time, grade-A, trolling. Joe Mauer is the face of the Twins ballclub, but this season he's struggled to play up to Joe Mauer levels, and to stay healthy. Fans have been booing Mauer, both in real life, and all over the Twitter machine. If you're going to get down on Mauer, let's do it in a more creative way. let's have a little fun. Let's troll Joe Mauer. Here are some signs I'd recommend taking on your next trip to Target Field "Joe Mauer puts cream and sugar in his coffee." "Joe Mauer gets beat up by his brother Jake." "Joe Mauer thinks Christian Ponder is a good QB." "My mom has better sideburns than Joe Mauer." "Joe Mauer let the dawgs out." "Joe Mauer took the last cup of coffee and didn't make a new pot." "Joe Mauer has dandruff." "Joe Mauer doesn't eat his peas and carrots." And my own personal favorite "Joe Mauer prefers cats over dogs" _____________________________ Follow me, @BaseballPirate, on Twitter. 20. Are you insinuating that Joe Mauer is actually from Wisconsin? Baby Jesus is no cheese head, or cheese pizza for that matter. He's a tall glass of milk. "with Midwestern-style pizza cut in squares. And the pizza’s good." CUT IN SQUARES! FOR THE WIN!

    Secret Cabin

A lot of things in this article ring true with me, espcially salivating at the idea of a Trade between the BoSox and Twins for Baby Jesus a couple years back. Man, coulda been a franchise changer. But, I also remember all the chatter waiting for Joe to sign his extension. I'm pretty sure that I would have given up on the Twins if they let Joe go. Twins fans need to remember how great he has been, not just the injuries of the last few seasons. He's Joe Mauer, hometown hero, and he's here for the long haul, the dollars are all spent. Enjoy the show. And the pizza.
  22. Those Jimmy Buffet jerseys are some of the worst sports memorabilia I've ever seen. Someone paid $1000 to raise money for a worthy cause, and I'll support that, but those jerseys, wowsers. That being said, I'd love in MLB teams did things like this, put some more fun into the game. Maybe MLB doesn't allow heinous jersey nights, but man, I think it would be fun. Who doesn't want a Twins Zubaz jersey? Or a cat jersey night? Oh man. I'm getting excited.
  23. Plouffe has more than provided enough value relative his draft position. No complaints. He was Babe Ruth for all of a month, and as you noted, has improved both offensively and defensively the last year+. I like Plouffe. I hope he grows a massive beard between now and next season. DJ MAZR was probably up late dropping sick beats down in the record studio prior to his Twins debut in O.co. You play in a ****-stadium, you throw ****. It happens. I'm not worried about his devlopment, not now, not ever. He's got talent.
  24. "Joe Mauer prefers cats over dogs" and other signs to make to troll Joe Mauer. A new blog. Oh yeah. it's coming.
