  1. Maybe Pinto thought he was a bird and needed to feed his baby chics. These things happen all the time. Players think they are mother birds. Really weird stuff going on in MLB.
  2. If the Twins have a chance to add a guy like Shields, for more than a rental, I think moving unproven young prospects makes sense. It might be hard to handle, giving up a prospect and his potential, but you're getting a proven "ace" who has already realized his potential. Prospect hype is fun to hope on, but established players need to be a big part of any successful team. Don't trade them all, you need young, cost-controlled players to round out a roster, but you have to be willing to give some talent to get some back. It might hurt to trade Sano and watch him become a 30 HR guy for the better part of the next decade, but if the return was 2 seasons of Johnny Cueto, Max Scherzer, or some other front of the line guy, wouldn't you make that deal?
  3. What do you want to trade to get pitcher or outfielder? Are you willing to move May or Meyer for a pitcher (pitcher for pitcher) or Buxton or Sano to get an aging OF? Who are your targets? I like Cinci for a trade, Cueto and Jimmy Rollins (and his contract) for Dozier and some mid-level prospects. Cinci gets salary relief, and has pitching to spare. I like it. Who knows. The Twins SHOULD have the payroll to pay a top tier free agent. There are a lot a lot a lot of league minimum salary players, even a contract gone wrong for a top-tier guy could be absorbed without much difficulty, if the move is done now, and tops out at 6/7 years. Either way, trade or sign, I think the important thing is to bring in value, established players ready to make meaningful impact NOW.
  4. Balvenie, to be sure. I was hoping for 73-7 wins. I lose. I'll take a swirl of the scotch, please.
  5. Perhaps Jim Pohlad will read this and annouce he's tired of being embarrassed by the quality of play on the field, from the guys on the hump, from the manager and his staff in the dugout. Perhaps not. This was a fun (?), no that's not right, this was a good read. I was there with you in 1984 (actually I was in my mother's womb, not to be born for almost 90 days), I melted and lost interest with you. Except then on 18 December 1984 I was born, and I lost those memories, and I'm waiting, waiting for a return to glory. Maybe if the Twins can turn this franchise around, you and I can share a cheer and celebrate what they've become. Or maybe I'll lose interest too, when the Twins lose the 2016 play-in game 14-13 after blowing a 10 run lead. Maybe. I hope not.
  6. President of drinking beer and being handsome.
  7. I wouldn't trade May, I wouldn't even consider it. This team needs pitching more than it needs position players. So maybe you could move May if it was part of a deal to acquire, say Cueto from the Reds, but unless you're getting front of the rotation pitching back, May has to stay in Minnesota, HAS TO. Other than that, let's wheel and deal. No one should really be untradeable if they're not May or Meyer.
  8. Chris Herrmann is getting playing time. Why isn't Pinto? That's a serious question, and one I wish we had answers to.
  9. If Meyer is up, he's starting. And I don't like Milone in the pen, stash him in AAA and call him up if needed. This is a fun exercise.
  10. There's a great discussion about this going on in the forum. Join the conversation. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/15428-worley-and-liriano-a-fangraphs-case-study-for-why-change-is-needed-in-minnesota/
  11. I'll remember Hughes being a classy dude, and not wanting to go back out for a cheap out to get his bonus. I'll also remember him as Punxatony Phil, even if no one else will.
  12. Oh this was so good. SD for president!

  15. Also, I wish the name of this post was "The Twins have a fever" so I could post something like "and the only solution is more cow-bell"
  16. pretty neat if he can pull it off, seems well within his season norms.
  17. Maybe I'm just a Hicks homer.
  18. Do you think Cinci would package Cueto and some of their terrible over priced contracts in a deal with the Twins for a couple of their 10-25 level prospects?
  19. Mike Pelfrey for president.

  20. The best way to prevent the other team from scoring is by not letting them score runs.
  21. Huh? I don't think signing more free agent pitching is the key to avoiding another 90 loss season. I'm also not sure what that has to do with Aaron Hicks, who can be a very useful guy even if he never hits 20 home runs in a season. A fast guy who can play solid defense and get on base 34% of the time? That seems like a solid back of the order bat to me. What do you think?
  22. http://assets.podomatic.net/ts/19/ad/da/paulpleiss/1400x1400-440x440+176+22_9939660.jpg Welp, we made it to 100 episodes. Thank you to everyone that has listened to us ramble over the past two years. We've come a long way from Episode 1 and we're happy to have you along for the ride. Along the way we picked up a couple of hitch hikers in Cody Christie and Jay Corn, and we have fun every week talking Twins baseball. This week we talk about Trevor May, Phil Hughes and Ricky Nolasco, who all turned in strong performances, and we talk about the trio of Danny Santana, Oswaldo Arcia, and Kennys Vargas forming a young core of talent for future Twins teams. We spend some time Down on the Pond talking about the most productive Minor League seasons in the Twins system. Before we sign off we gave Jay time to wax poetic about Derek Jeter as he comes upon the end of his career (sparked by this new ad) and we wrap up Episode 100 talking about beer. Thank you again for listening to us ramble, and be sure to check out Egon's Unicat, who have been providing us music for the podcast the entire time we've been around! You are all awesome! Source
  23. http://assets.podomatic.net/ts/19/ad/da/paulpleiss/1400x1400-360x360+32+0_9920149.jpeg There hasn't been a lot of good things to talk about with this ball club. That doesn't mean we don't have things to talk about, and we even got into a couple of spirited conversations this week, most notably about the coaching staff and their uncertain future in Minnesota. Mike Trout and the league leading Angels came to town and swept our hometown heroes, but at least Target Field faithful were reminded what winning baseball looks like. The Twins released their minor league hitting coordinator, Bill Springman. What does that mean, if anything, going forward? The front office cited "organizational differences" which could mean just about anything and everything. We speculate exactly what it means. We also talk about Jay Corn's adventure with beer steins, and the upcoming MN Oktoberfest. And don't forget about the Helmet challenge happening on Monday the 15th at Target Field. Source
