  1. First thing I thought after Sano's blast: We need more runs.
  2. It has been a pleasure to see Joe playing this well this past week. Joe is really an enigma this year; a mystery wrapped in a riddle. If he has turned a corner, then this is great. This has been hot and cold to the extreme. Hope this can continue.
  3. Gotta love how Suzuki works back there. Before that double, there was nobody on in the 7th, and he's still getting down to block anything in the dirt. Love it.
  4. OMG - someone who can actually get a bunt down.
  5. Runners on the corners; Joe walks.
  6. Mauer hitting .330 lifetime with RISP. Wow. Do something now, Joe.
  7. Would be sweet!
  8. Based upon the last month, Kepler is one of the best players of all MLB.
  9. Grossman and his .402 OBP can stay. Need: * Start Vargas @ 1B * Start Polanco @ SS * Bench Mauer * Trade Plouffe * Trade Rosario
  10. He has no plan to drive the ball and makes that clear in every AB.
  11. Bot 3, down 2-0, runners on 1st & 2nd, Mauer shows bunt. LOL.
  12. Good point. The Twins can certainly do better than a .380 slugging percentage at 1B. Mauer's lack of power is a very important topic to discuss.
  13. Can we beg the mods to lock this thread, too, because we can't stand the very blasphemy of questioning the great Joe Mauer?
  14. Some of you are trying desperately hard to muddy up the waters in this discussion. He is an AL 1B with a .372 SLG % and 29 RBIs after 93 games. He might not even get 50 RBIs, and he's on pace for 150+ games. There is no argument to fight this ineptitude. Serious question: How low will the slugging percentage need to drop until the lack of performance becomes unacceptable - even for the apologists? * .350? * .325? If his slugging percentage were to fall to .325, would it be acceptable to rip him then? Yes, he has a decent glove and takes a walk now and then. No one is arguing that. There is value to that. Those assets were valuable for a few years for Nick Punto, but Mauer's numbers, as an AL 1B, are clearly terrible.
  15. .371 SLG for an AL 1B is not valuable. Agree to disagree.
  16. OBP/OPS is average only because he tries his hardest every at bat to take a walk. It's surely not due to hitting. I like his defense. Still, his hitting and RBI production is so low that it's really embarrassing.
  17. 7/19/16 --- Mauer's stats --- 92 games in: * HR: 7 (Take away that one good week and he is nearly worst of all time. Of 23 MLB qualifying 1B, He ranks 21st.) * RBI: 28 (Of 23 MLB qualifying 1B, He ranks 22nd.) * AVG: .265 (Here we go again.) * SLG: .371 (13th on TEAM. Ranks 22nd of 23 MLB 1B. Sweet idea to keep running him out there, though.) We finally saw some accountability in this organization on Monday. When will we have some at 1B?
  18. Sure is. If he goes back, I'm going back to the other thread, and deservedly so. Until, that is, I receive a direct order not to discuss Joe Mauer when he's playing poorly.
  19. Not sure what the confusion is all about. When he's the AL Player of the Week, it doesn't make much sense to post in the Raised Panic Level thread, does it? If he goes back to being 32nd in all of MLB first basemen in HRs, and 35th in RBIs (like he was - very recently), then it's very appropriate.
  20. Noticeable difference and takeaway from last week: * Joe took some big hacks early in the count. Can he continue this approach? Clearly he has been needing to make this adjustment... hope he can ride this wave.
  21. Congrats, Joe! http://m.twins.mlb.com/news/article/181248156/joe-mauer-named-al-player-of-the-week
  22. Too bad Mauer got robbed on that.
  23. Good to see Mauer putting some good hacks on the ball as of late. Enjoying this thoroughly.
